PLAGIARISM 1
Plagiarism Discussion
For students, the understanding of plagiarism and scholastic dishonesty is crucial to make
sure that they avoid taking any action which could have severe consequences in their
academic career. There are various common errors or mistakes in which students engage that
could be avoided by them if they have the understanding of these terms. Scholastic
dishonesty is also referred as academic misconduct which is defined as any form of cheating
during a formal academic exercise; it could include plagiarism, collusion, sabotage,
fabrication, deception and cheating (Singh, et al., 2016).
Plagiarism is referred to the practice through which a person takes credit for another’s ideas
or works; it is also defined as an act of intellectual dishonesty. Engagement in this practice
could lead to irreparable damages to students’ reputation in colleges and universities. There
are different types of plagiarism such as direct, mosaic, paraphrased, and accidental
plagiarism and the consequences of these types can differ as well. There are various severe
consequences which the students could face if they submit plagiarized assignments in their
colleges or universities. These consequences could include an expulsion, suspension, or a
failing grade.
Students can avoid plagiarism by creating an outline of their work, conducting preliminary
research, writing in their own words and keeping track of their work for giving credit to
authors in bibliography (Sharma, 2017). Understanding of these terms and their consequences
can help students in avoiding these mistakes which could ruin their academic exercises and
they can have a successful academic career that can help them to achieve their goals.
Response:
I support the discussion of this student as per the questioning about honesty and integrity
where it is essential to make strict rules for following and understanding the importance of
free plagiarized work. The response in case of academic conduct shows the necessity of
understanding scholastic dishonesty which might lead to severe consequences. Avoiding the
occurrence of academic integrity can effect on an individual’s degree plan, finances and goals
which is a correct point to discuss and can face challenges for long-run as well. According to
me, correct knowledge and understanding about plagiarism and academic integrity is
essential by providing education to students for avoiding such consequences and to work
honestly for better further results.
