who is the co-founder of Morden Olympic Games. The symbols represent the five continents of
the world. The colour of rings is red, blue, black, yellow and white and these colours are
basically part of every nation’s flag. These games are already hosted in 23 countries across the

Competitive Advantage: The countries in which the games are held get the competitive
advantage as in case of London the country has successfully held the game for 3 times
and build a reputation in mind of people. This leads to competitive advantage and better
opportunities for tourism in the country due to well established position in the eyes of
people. As tourists want to visit the place that has name and is famous.
Strategies made by government: Government of the area also make strategies for
effective and efficient completion of games as these strategies help to improve the
tourism of the country (Lloyd, M., Foley, J. T. and Temple, V. A., 2018). Also the
strategies and the promotions done by government have more impact on public and
pursue the people to visit the destination. This will also increase the awareness and will
lead to public welfare.

Future Growth Opportunities: As discussed earlier there is increase in employment
opportunities due to Olympics this will lead to increase in condition of the nations and
increase the GDP with growing economy (Fogarassy, C and et. al., 2017) .
As there are two sides of a coin, some of the challenges faced by the countries hosting the event
are discussed below:
Pressure of Organising of Event: As it is a mega event it is not easy task to manage
such a big level event. London is already having a good name across the globe and will
like to maintain the same or either increases its goodwill (Demir, G. T., Ilhan, E. L.,
Cicioğlu, H. I. and Serkan, K. A. B. A. K., 2016) . The Country who is hosting the event
has to make all the arrangement and make the event success as it happens at a very large
level. The time is of pressure but it is important to deal effectively in this time and build
image of tackling the event smoothly.
Political Controversies: It is not possible that any event happens without any
controversy. So the political problems occur in countries while these mega programmes,
it is the duty of countries to deal with such problems and make the event successful. As
these political controversies are common and they affect the image adversely, so it is
necessary to deal and have positive impact of all the factors associate with Olympic held
in the country. So is followed by London.
This is how Olympic Games impact the hospitality and tourism industry.
Impact of Olympics on the environment of the country.
Environment is where everyone lives and works, it includes all living as well as non-living
things. The surroundings in which the Game is announced is called environment. Olympic
Games affect the environment in different ways in different countries. The impact of Olympics
in relation to London is as follows:
Damage due to Waste Generation: There is a lot of waste in the host country which
causes damage to the environment. The waste can generate pollutants and lead to some
disease in the country (Suzuki, N., Ogawa, T. and Inaba, N., 2018). Also, the productivity
of the country goes down at that time and growth is hampered.
Loss of Biodiversity: As there is development of Low Lea Valley in London for
Olympics the loss of natural habitat and biodiversity has taken place and has impacted the
environment.
Document Page
Failure of Carbon Offsets: the construction of many projects done for Olympics which
have increased CO2 in the environment and is harmful for the surroundings. The steps
should be taken for this.
3.4 Million tons of CO2: The Olympic Games emit CO2 and authority should reduce
CO2 in the environment to control the negative impact on environment
Transportation Chaos: The Olympics has made the transportation chaos as there is
gathering of thousands of people in London stadium (Hiller, H. H., 2019) . This increases
the traffic in the area and the people create a bad image of the country and there vision
for the country changes and may be it becomes negative.
Unsustainable Games: London Olympics is planning to use the concept of reduce and
recycle to minimise the waste and helps in mitigation of carbon footprints that is
beneficial for the environment.
The PR gaffes: The medals of London Olympics are made of PR gaffes that cause life
threatening water pollution and air pollutants with mining endeavours around the world.
The London government is planning to reduce all these negative impacts and planning to
mainly to reduce the CO2 in the environment and minimise the carbon footprints as they are
harmful for the country. They are planning to organise the event in sustainable manner so that
event is success and there is no loss of resources. In 2012 they made use of 100% public
transportation for people which has reduces pollution as well as transportation chaos and
contributed to betterment of the surroundings (Spaaij, R., 2016). The Olympic park is designed
by keeping in view the benefit and security of wildlife of the country. Also now recyclable pipes
and other materials are used by the authorities.
The city is planning to organise the games with zero waste and maintain a image in mind
of people and also for the benefit of its own country. Sustainability is another concept that the
city is focusing on and by this they are making optimum use of the resources and saving them for
future generation. As the pollution would decrease it will benefit the nation overall like the
health and safety of people will be there also the wildlife would also be safe and secure sue to
these steps taken by government.
The impact of Olympics on Society
Society is where people socialise and gather. It is a vital part for arranging any event as
they as the main part, it important to have their agreement for the event. Normally the society
gets happy if they come to know about these kind of events and the impact of Olympics on
society of London is as follows:
Motivation: When there is any event in the country the people gets excited and tries to
participate at their level best. Also they get motivated and their morale gets boost they try

to win the game. There is a Feeling of sportsmanship that is developed and the country is
fully motivated and working hard to play and win the games.

get away from their busy schedule and enjoy. The participants like to play and enjoy the
games and the speculators have fun by watching the games, it is a source of entertainment
for people (Corbin, S. and Holder, M., 2016). They develop positivity by playing and
enjoying these types of games.
Social Cohesion: As people from different nations which are of different age, sex,
religion, culture come and play together there is a bonding that is built in the society
(Trendafilova, S., Graham, J. and Bemiller, J., 2017) . These games create a sense of
belongingness among the people and they play together happily.
Regeneration Opportunities: As there is generation of funds in these events, so the
government can use these funds for growth of weaker sections of the society and help
them financially. The country where these games take place increases the standard of
people living there.
Building Legacy: The Olympics is symbol of legacy for the country. As organising these
games increases the reputation and positive image of the country. This also helps to
analyse the factors that are having negative impact on environment and try to reduce
them.
Above written is the impact that Olympics create on the society as the socialising of people is
important foe success of every event. The people develop a sense of belongingness and get
motivated while playing with the spirit of sportsmanship for the country (Sigmon, L. B.,
Woodard, E. K. and Woody, G., 2020) . Also there are many people who play together and there
is also increase in opportunities for the people living there an d this also improves the growth
prospects of the nation.
CONCLUSION

mega event that takes place every 4 years in different countries these games increases the feeling
of sportsmanship in the country. The report also talks about how these games impact the tourism
industry and the hospitality industry of that country as so many people from different nations

environment and how that can be minimised. Media also plays an important role by promoting
the event globally.
RECOMMENDATIONS
The Olympics is a mega event which should be organised with honesty and there should
not be any controversies and to one should try make the event corrupt as it is the event for
people. The event causes some harm to environment so the measures to minimise that should be
taken and special care to wildlife should also be given.
