INTRODUCTION
Planning ways to attain future goals and objectives is an important task which continues through
life as an individual has to face various challenges in personal, professional and academic
development (Ariani, 2021). In addition to this further improvement is another factor which
increases the time of attaining goals. The concept of personal and professional development is
deliberated in this report and the value of personal development ids also provided in this report.
The present report focuses on personal development and academic skills. The description and
value of short-term, medium-term and long-term goals are provided in this report along with
personal examples. The impact of ‘Author, Purpose, Reliability and Relevance” is also discussed
in this report.

Personal and Professional Development
Personal development refers to the practice of investing in development of skills and
capabilities which assist in attainment of various goals related to personal life, professional
career or academic journey.
Professional development is the process of gaining educational qualifications, experience,
skills and abilities which contribute to career advancement I n a particular field or occupation.
The main difference between personal and professional development is that while personal
development spans to various areas of life, professional development is limited to occupational
objectives of the individual.
Worth of short-term goals
Short term goals are defined as the objectives which can be accomplished by individual
within the time period of 3 months. These goals can be attained easily as they either require use
of existing skills and knowledge or simplified tasks to attain proficiency (Emery and et. al.,
2018). These goals are important as they help in attainment of skills which are needed for
attaining long term and time taking goals.
Personal examples of short-term goals
Improve sleeping habits by waking early and taking 8 hours sleep on daily basis.
