Academic writing is considered as the writing which focuses on fulfilling the need of a
college or university. It is important for the students to have good academic writing as it can be
easy for them to achieve good marks in their particular field. Therefore, in this paper the
emphasis will be given on the skills which are required for academic writing.
To have proper academic writing it is important for the students to have proper skills.
There are various skills that should be possessed by the students to enhance the work. The skills
which should be there are related to strong writing, excellent grammar, consistent stylistic
approach, time management, research, developing an argument, expressing own thoughts and
views and to know your audience (Bailey,2014).
One of the skills is related to strong writing that should be present in the students so that
they can attain good marks. In this it is important for the students to focus on maintaining the
format at the time of writing academic papers. It can be stated that a good writer is the one who
spend time on distilling the information by considering different sources which are authentic and
also they focuses on reviewing the points before the academic paper. It can be analyzed that
writing detailed outlines can assist the authors to organize their views and thoughts. Also, it can
be said that good academic writing starts with solid planning (Murray, 2014).
The next skill related with the excellent grammar which is necessary at the time of
writing good quality paper. The students should have proper concepts related to grammar as it
can help them in maintaining the overall paper quality and can also help them to achieve good
marks. It is important for the students to using proper verbs and also the sentence structuring
issue should be not raised. It has been investigated that good writer focuses on the major points
or the words which can help to maintain the quality of the paper. It is the skill of the individual to
use the right words at the right so that good sentences can be made in the academic papers. It is
important that students should have proper punctuation and good proofreading skills as it can
help in improving the academic writing. Good Grammar is considered as one of the important

The next skill which is important relates with the consistent stylistic approach in which it
is important for the students to implementing the different styles of referencing which is
considered as the source from which the information is taken. It has been seen that in this the
students has to develop the skills so that they can easily learn the styles which in the guide. There
are many referencing styles like MLA, APA and Chicago that can be used when students have
the learning capacity. So, it is considered one of the skills that should be there in the students so
that they can mention correct sources in the academic paper (Maringe & Jenkins, 2015).
Time management is considered as the important skill that should be there in the students
to write the academic paper in a proper manner. It is also one of the skills which are necessary
for completing the academic paper. If student is not able to manage the time then it cannot be
easy for them to complete the paper or it can also delay the work which is important to be
delivered on the given deadline. The student should know how much time they should spend on
research and how much they should spend on writing or outlining the paper. This is important
factor that should be considered by the students so that they can deliver the work on the given
deadline (Joyner, Rouse & Glatthorn, 2018).
Research is considered as one of the important aspect in the paper which improves the
quality of the work. It has been seen that if proper research is not done then it would not be
possible for the student to achieve good marks in terms of quality content. In this also skill plays
an important (Milad, 2017). Every individual does not have the skill to research the right content
for the academic paper. So, this needs a smart way to complete the work with maintaining the
good quality of the work. Also, in this student should know how to develop the arguments for the
paper. It can help to outline the proper structure of the report (Lichtinger, 2018).
The important skill also relates with expressing own thoughts and views. This is one of
the skills that every student does not have. There are many individuals who have knowledge to
write the paper but they don’t have the skill to express their thoughts and views in the paper.
This sometime creates issue for the individual or the children to write the paper. It is necessary
for the student to know the target audience so that it can be easy to elaborate their views and

Therefore, it can be concluded that it is important for the children to possess these skills

help the students to boost their knowledge and can also enhance their level of confidence
towards studies. Without these skills it would be difficult for the students to achieve higher
grades or to pass their subjects. So, these are the skills on which the students should focus so that
