Values required in nursing practice The core values that are required to attain when looking for a career in nursing which involves taking care and nurturing those around which is the best way to get success. While pursuing the nursing, there are some core values which are fundamental to for education. Empathy and caring:It is the most important value as nursing requires empathy and true care. Empathy here refers to the nurse ability to understand the feelings and thoughts of the patient. Communication:The exchange of information is important in nursing which can be used at the time of patient assessment. Psychomotor skills:It refers to maximizing the clients comfort and the use of skills to conduct client's assessment (The Core Values Every Nursing School Should Have. 2020). These skills are learned through practice. Professionalism:it involves the professional characteristics of nurse which helps in building the professional status. This is gained through knowledge and experience. Principles of nursing practice Non-maleficence:It refers to be competent in the field and reporting something wrong and suspected abuse on the timely basis. Beneficence:This principle talks about the compassion that a nurse should have in order to take actions to provide help to patients with the intention to do good (6 key ethical principles of nursing. 2020). Fidelity:It refers to keeping the commitments based on the core value of caring. Autonomy:It includes satisfying the customers by respecting the patients wishes even if there is disagreement. Principle of totality and integrity:Taking proper care in relation to medication, therapy a patient should receive. Justice:This principle refers to treating all patients equally. Self-assessment After analysing the key values and principles of nursing, I have conducted my self assessment which has helped me in identifying my key strength and weaknesses and also helps in determining the area of improvement. The all the weaknesses that I have identified is required to be overcome for the advancement of my career. To face these challenges I need to prepare a plan or activities which will assist me in overcoming my weakness. To defeat the critical thinking issue, as a nurse is required to make certain decisions based on the situation on a daily basis for which critical thinking is essential so, I would involve in activities that requires application of thinking process in a short duration which will enhance my thinking pattern. To build effective communication skills, I will start interacting with more people which will help in boosting my confidence and consequently lead to build confidence in myself. The last is leadership skills which is very important for guiding others, taking responsibility and decisions. This skill can be developed by practice, following other having great leadership skills, resolving conflict and by being an active listener. Thus, all self assessment has helped me in providing direction that will help in achieving my goals.
