It can be said that Brexit has impacted travel and tourism industry adversely. All the three texts
suggest that free and hassle free travel has become difficult after the Brexit. Britain’s decision to exit the
European Union will have impacts which will be faced by the travellers as the airfares and other associated
travel fairs are likely to be affected because of the same reason. However it is to be noted that the three texts
have some dissimilarities. Text A talks about the effect of Brexit on the travel and tourism Industry of Europe
as well as United Kingdom1. Text B talks about the impacts of Brexit on the free movement of people and how
people are affected by the same.2 Text C talks about how the immigration laws of United Kingdom were
affected by the Brexit.3

Executive summary
The purpose of this report is to analyze the consequences and the impacts of Brexit on the travel and tourism
industry. In this report the Association of British Travel Agency is to be carefully analyzed with respect to the
changes of the travel industry after the Brexit. It can be concluded from the report that Brexit has affected the
tourism industry and the economy of the United Kingdom adversely and has become a reason for concern of
the tourists and travellers.

Introduction
The exit of Britain from European Union has affected all the trade organizations of the European Union
as well as of United Kingdom4. There are many people travelling to United Kingdom as well as European
countries every year. Britain’s decision to exit the European Union will have impacts which will be faced by the
travellers as the airfares and other associated travel fairs are likely to be affected because of the same reason.
The Association of British Travel Agents however has stated that immediate concern for the travellers is the
strength of the Pound in respect of other currencies.
Discussion
The Association of British Travel Agents is a renowned brand and has been operating for sixty five
years with an annual turnover of 33 billion pounds. Its main aim is to make the customers of the same travel
confidently and comfortably. The main objective of the aforementioned organization is to provide a wonderful
experience of travelling to the customers, maintain and try to raise the standard of the travel and tourism
industry. They offer financial protection to the customers and try to resolve their complaints. The
aforementioned organization also gives advice and guidance in matters related to safety and health of the
customers. However the organization was affected adversely after the exit of United Kingdom from the
European Union.
Impacts on Business
It can be said that the exit of Britain from the European Union has affected the travel and tourism
Industry of Europe as well as United Kingdom5. The immediate consequence of Brexit was the fall in the
strength of the pound and the same had an adverse effect on the flight and hotel fares. However it is to be
mentioned that the prime minister of United Kingdom at the time of Brexit stated that there would be no
initial change in the way people travel from United Kingdom to other European countries. The Association of
British Travel Agents also stated that travellers would face no hassles in travelling to other European countries
from United Kingdom and travelling to United Kingdom from other European Countries. It also should be
mentioned that European Health Insurance Cards and air passengers rights will continue to exist as it used to
prior to the Brexit. However it can be said that Britain exiting from the European Union will require residents
of United Kingdom to have visas of the countries they will be travelling to and the residents of other European
Countries to have the visa of United Kingdom while travelling to United Kingdom6. It can be said that Brexit will
have overall impacts on travel and tourism industry, especially on certain sectors of the industry. European
travel companies will face limitations in respect of market access in United Kingdom. It can be stated that
United Kingdom already faces tough price competition from other European countries and the same is a major
setback for the travel and tourism industry of the United Kingdom. It can be said that after the occurrence of
Brexit, the travel industry of the aforementioned country can be benefited by the reducing the burden of

administration of laws related to employment. It can also be stated that Brexit has affected the employment of
members of other countries of the European Union in United Kingdom travel and tourism industry adversely.
Short and long term effects
The visa rules applying to the free movement of workers and travellers across the European Union and
into United Kingdom had to be revised after the Brexit7. The existing laws related to immigration of United
Kingdom affecting the travellers and workers also had to be repealed and amended 8. The consumer rights of
travellers travelling to the European Union would be hampered. The medical and emergency services which
are covered by the European health card, the rights of passengers of airways in case of cancellation and delay
of flights and the charges of roaming faced the impacts of Brexit. It is to be mentioned that the laws related to
the aforementioned grounds were all governed by the European Union9. After the Brexit new laws had to be
framed specifically for United Kingdom. It is to be mentioned that the United Kingdom is part of the European
Economic Area and therefore enjoys the privileges which are based on the treaties and laws of the European
Union. United Kingdom enjoys the freedom of free movement of capital, goods and services and people on
paper but in reality the procedure is complicated and a lot hassle is involved which hinders the free movement
of people and the aforementioned objects10. The idea of travelling without visa in the countries of the
European Union, The European Health Insurance Card will take a long time to be implemented.
Conclusion
Thus to conclude it can be stated that the exit of United Kingdom from the European Union has had
major impacts on all trade organizations and companies, especially on the trade and tourism industry. The
aforementioned organization has suffered a lot from the consequences of Brexit. It can be mentioned that the
free movement of people, goods and services in the European Union is no longer hassle free. The laws related
to immigration of United Kingdom had to be amended post the Brexit and the employment of members of
European Union in Union has also become difficult.

United Kingdom’s exit from the European Union has impacted all sectors of trade organizations.
However according to me the travel and tourism industry has been the most affected because of the Brexit.
The exit of the United Kingdom has resulted in the fall of the strength of Pound, the currency of United
Kingdom, which in turn has resulted in the change of flight fares and travel fares all over the European Union.
It has become a major reason of concern for the travellers to European Union as well as to United Kingdom. I
feel that the exit of Britain from the European Union has caused a lot of trouble to the travellers. I feel the
British Travel Agents have faced some major setbacks after the Brexit due to change in the visa application
rules.
Thus in analysis of the situation I would also like to mention that Brexit had impacted the economy of
United Kingdom adversely, the immigration laws of United Kingdom had to be amended. It is also to be noted
that employment of members in the travel and tourism industry of United Kingdom from other states of the
European Union has become difficult after the Brexit. However I would like to point out that the rights of air
passengers and the European Health Insurance Cards would still be valid for passengers. Another important
consequence of Brexit that should be made known to people, is that those travelling from United Kingdom to
other countries of the European Union will require visas of the countries they will be travelling to with the

exception of a few countries and vice-versa. Thus in conclusion I believe that as a result of the Brexit it would
be difficult for European Travel Companies to expand their business in the United Kingdom. I would like state
that Brexit has been a reason that hinders the free movement of people and other objects in the European
Union and the same has also affected the economy of the United Kingdom adversely. I believe the alternate
solution for the association of British travel agents is to be updated about the new immigration laws and visa
application rules to carry on business after the Brexit.
