Activated Carbon Adsorption ForWaste water treatment
Executive SummaryAlthough there are various techniques for the treatment of the waste water but utilizationof activated carbon for it can be considered as a better option. The project is about different waysand techniques by which the activated carbon can be used for the whole process of treatment.Along with this, it also includes various factors that affect the quality and performance ofactivated carbon and how it can be a beneficial process to use activated carbon for the wastewater treatment. The proposal also includes different use of both the forms of activated carbon, powderedandgranularindifferentaspects.

INTRODUCTION Activated carbon treatment is considered as an essential method for the adsorption of theimpurities present on the surface of the filter. The technique is categorised as one of the effectivemethods in the whole process of the filtration (Bhatnagar and et.al, 2013). In this procedure, carbon is being used in the form of charcoal. There are various types of water filters but usuallytwo of them are used in the waste water treatment which includes the reactive and the particulatefilters. The process is given more priority because of its lower cost and simple structure. Also, itsoperation are easy to implement rather than any other methods. The research proposal is aboutthe research for the utilization of the activated carbon for treatment of waste water. Also, itincludes various forms of activated charcoal and various factors that affects the overallperformance of the activated carbon on the treatment of the waste water.Aim To identify the utilization of activated carbon and its impact on the waste water treatment. Objectives To understand the concept of activated carbon. To identify the impact of activated carbon on the waste water treatment process. To evaluate the factors affecting the performance of the activated carbon. To recommend ways of using the activated carbon for waste water treatment. Research QuestionsQ1. What is the actual concept of activated carbon?Q2. What is the impact of activated carbon on the process of waste water treatment?Q3. What are the factors that affects the performance of the activated carbon?Literature Review Concept of activated carbonAccording to Ahmad and Hameed (2010), the activated carbon is also considered as theactivated charcoal in which the carbon is being obtained from the the rocks or sediments whicheither consists of carbon or are made up of these compounds. Although it can be produced byvarious methods but physical activation acts as the most important method. The activated carbondiffers from the normal one in a way that in the activated form, charcoal has been added formaximizing the level of porosity which further increases the surface area as well.
