- The sustainability policy that is to be addressed is
the Triple bottom line reporting. The scope of the
policy is to focus on the environment as well as the
society/people along with the profit of the
organisation.
2. What sources of information have you gathered to help
you plan and develop your policy?
- The sources of information that has been gathered
are the stakeholders which include the local
community, customers, the employees and the
investors.

Activity 1. Who are your stakeholders?
- The stakeholders are the customers, the employees of
the organisation, the government, the investors as well
as the local community. It also involves the other
organisations, and the suppliers.
2. Choose a stakeholder from your list above and describe
through what means you would consult with them and what
you would discuss.
- The stakeholder that is chosen are the employees of the
organisation. They can be consulted through team
meetings and also through the questionnaire send by
the sustainability work group. The discussion should
focus the need to have a sustainability policy and to
consider both the people and the environment along
with the profit of the organisation.

appropriate strategies in policy at all stages of work
for minimising resource use, reducing toxic material
and hazardous chemical use, and employing life cycle
management approaches.
Activity 1. What strategies could you include to reduce toxic
material and hazard chemical use and employ life
cycle management approaches?
- In order to reduce the toxic materials and the
hazard chemical use, the resources at the
organisation such as the printer cartridges or
the batteries and plastic can be recycled. There
could also be a compost bin for the wastes. The
chemicals such as the acid, the oxidizers can
also be recycled and more environmental
friendly products can be used. The employees
should be made aware of the life-cycle
management approaches.

Activity 1. Demonstrate how you can make recommendations for a
policy based on likely effectiveness, timeframes and cost.
- One such organisation that takes care of the
sustainability is Australia’s telecommunication and
technology company Telstra. One of the policies that
they have implemented is the reuse and the recycle of
the 60 tonnes if the old mobile phones. This has
increased the waste recycling rate for the company.
However another policy that can be adopted by the
company is that the radiation level can be reduced in
the mobile phones. Moreover the rejected parts can be
disposed off carefully without causing chemical and
toxic pollution.

- The organisational commitment to sustainability
can be demonstrated by thinking about new
techniques to achieve the economic efficiency.
There should be more supply of the products. The
training staffs should be increased along with their
staff incentives.

methods of implementation, outcomes and performance

indicators.
Activity 1. Prepare for a meeting with your supervisors. Brainstorm
ideas for appropriate methods of implementation.
- Holding group meetings where the need and the
possible outcomes of the policy can be discussed. The
implementation should be done by aiming small term
goals at the very beginning. There needs to be a plan
so that the specific tasks would be distributed among
the employees the implementation should also be
discussed along with time limits so that the staff do
not feel overburdened and there is time for every
phase.
