Note:
This module explores the theme of self-development and encourages you to think of
ways to develop as a leader. Unit 1 explored the differences between, and benefits of,
coaching and mentoring as development tools. Unit 2 examined strategies for interviews
and creating CVs. Lastly, Unit 3 provided insight into seeking and adopting methods for
development that may be unusual or unconventional.
For this activity submission, you are required to create an action plan to make the 10-
year CV you created in Unit 2 a reality. Think about your career and how you may want
to transition into future roles or sectors. This exercise requires you to use your
imagination and picture what you would like your life to look like in 10 years’ time.
To complete this activity, use the draft CV you created for the reflective journal activity as
well as some of the ideas shared in the class-wide discussion forum on ways to acquire
new skills. In addition, reflect on the content and activities included in this module to help
you identify and select methods and resources that you can use to help develop or
transition into a new role.
The action plan template included below has three columns. The requirements for each
column are as follows:
 Areas to be developed: List two to five areas you would like to develop further.
These areas should be related to your desired new role or the career transition
you wish to embark on. Be specific and clear in the description of your
development areas and write a succinct statement outlining what you hope to
achieve. For example: “Build and maintain a strong professional network”.
 Self-development tools, resources, methods, and activities: In this column,
describe the self-development tools, resources, methods, or activities you intend
to use to assist in developing the areas you identified in the first column. Reflect
on the tools and methods outlined throughout this module to inform your self-
development approach. For each area to be developed, write at least three self-
development approaches in point form. For example: “Finding a mentor”.
 Time frame: Write down the time by when you hope to achieve each area for
development, for example: “By the end of the year”. Outlining a time frame will
help you hold yourself accountable to achieving your desired self-development
goal.
