Abstract
The company selected for carrying out strategy analysis is Albany Medical College that is
positioned as a renowned US based non-profit medical research company. The paper will
evaluate its strategic position in US through employing certain effective external business
environment analysis frameworks such as 7s framework theory, SWOT along with PESTEL
analysis. Certain weaknesses have been revealed in its management structure that has resulted in
attaining advantages of new educative applications in medical sciences. To deal with such
concerns Albany Medical College should develop strategy of offering training grants along with
fellowships at the pre-as well as post-doctoral levels that needs to be gradually increased.

1. Introduction
Strategic analysis business tools and techniques can facilitate in understanding the
company’s environment strategically regarding the business. Such tools facilitate in analyzing
the business position of the company along with its strategic advantages in the industry. It can
also facilitate in analyzing the strengths and weaknesses within its management structure (Gureje
et al. 2015). The objective of this paper is to carry out strategic management analysis of a health
science university and a biomedical research institution of US. The company selected for
carrying out strategy analysis is Albany Medical College that is positioned as a renowned US
based medical research and patient care company. This organization carries out biomedical
research and grants institutions and other individuals in supporting range of international
research activities along with pre-college and undergraduate science education.
The major purpose of this institution is to promote human knowledge in the basic science
field along with its effective application (Amc.edu., 2018). Considering same, the paper will
evaluate its strategic position in US through employing certain effective external business
environment analysis frameworks such as 7s framework theory, SWOT along with PESTEL
analysis. Based on the findings effective change recommendations will be provided along with
proposing a suitable management structure change in the organization.
2. 7S framework theory
McKinsey 7S model serves as an important tool in analyzing Albany Medical College’s
internal competitive advantage aspects such as its position of strategy, structure, systems, shared
values, style, staff and skills (Král and Králová 2016). All such factors facilitate in determining

the ways in which Albany Medical College develops plan in maintaining and developing
competitive advantage among its rivals in US. Moreover, it can also facilitates in understanding
the ways in which the organization is structured along with the leadership style and
organizational capabilities attained by the institution (Ravanfar 2015). This can further facilitate
in recognizing if they are effective enough and is aligned with company objectives. Such
analysis will facilitate in evaluating the strengths and weaknesses in its internal organization’s
skills based on which suitable recommendations can be provided for maintaining its suitable
position in UK.

5STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT ANALYSIS
Strategy- Albany Medical College developed a strategy that has focused on increased
investment in the community care biomedical research. An increased funding is needed
in bringing overall shifting care within a community focused on which biomedical
researches carried out by this institution (Shaqrah 2018). The medical institution
implemented a strategy to build and maintain competitive advantage over the
competition. Albany Medical College considered maximum asset utilization so that it
operates in clusters and through setting medical research institutions and learning
programs all over US along with attaining certain expensive resources such as medical
equipment’s and bank-end operations that must also be shared all across the institution
(Spaho 2014).
Structure- Albany Medical College board will encompass 6 directors that will include a
chairman along with 2 directors each from the biomedical research process along with 2
independent directors those will have extensive industry experience on medical teaching.
The Albany Medical College’s management team will include professionals those will
have a combination of different backgrounds along with expertise in research and
biomedical knowledge field those will be from US. The health science university and a
biomedical research institution of US will have its corporate headquarter in US.
Systems- The biomedical research and health care science education institute follows a
system that includes four major elements that includes high throughput, no frills model,
service specialization along with asset utilization maximization (Baishya B., 2015). The
aspects of this system followed in Albany Medical College are explained below:
High throughput: Albany Medical College operates its business in large volumes in
comparison to the transparent players that segments its fixed costs over a wide range of
