2AMERICAN HISTORY
Question – 1
Ans: - The United States of America is said to have begun the expansion of the territories for
itself during the period of the years between the years of 1790 – 1860. It was also during this
time that the country of U.S.A. also started to build the vast industrial systems for the country
itself.
It was also the time when the country of The United States of America started their
geographical expansions so that the country could have more areas under its control. The
main features of the geographical expansion of the country is to acquire as many territories as
it could have on their own,
This territorial expansion of the country of The United States of America began as a
result of the tension which rose as a rivalry between the free states and the slave states which
was a major problem during the times (Foner:2013).
Moreover the rise of the cotton industries in the country around the same time also
gave the initiatives to the U.S. officials to occupy the areas so that they could get the access
to the areas where the cotton kingdom were more prevalent in the country itself (Foner,
2013).
Apart from the rivalries between the free states and that of the slave states in the
country and the growth of the cotton kingdom, the other reasons why the years 1790 -1860
led to the country undergoing geographical expansions is of a number of reasons.

3AMERICAN HISTORY
The first reason why the geographical expansion started is because of the fact that the
economic resources were available more easily in these geographical areas. The economic fur
trade had become quite popular in the areas (Foner:2013).
This fur trade was mainly done by the European colonizers who had resided in the
country for a long period of time. It is said that it was the availability of more land in these
areas that the American began to expand in these areas.
The discovery of gold in California in the year 1848 led to more migrants shifting to
these areas looking for gold and other resources using which the Americans themselves
hoped to improve their economic systems itself.
In addition to the above mentioned reasons, there was another reason which also
explained the expansion of the United States is related to the field of religion itself. The Great
Awakening was one of the major reasons for most of the people migrating to the other areas.
This is because of the fact that the people of the country at that time were of the
opinion that the God had blessed the country for its growth (Foner:2013).
Hence, the people of the country wanted to christianize the tribal people of the
country son that they would be allowed to cross the Mississippi river themselves. Moreover,
the California Gold Rush of the times acted as a catalyst for the people to move into the parts
of the United States of America this causing the geographical expansion of the country
between the years 1790 – 1860.

Question – 2
Ans: The Cotton Kingdom was one of the most dynamic features that the American
economy had ever encountered. It has been stated by the historian as well as the scholars of
the times that the main reasons for the launch of the cotton kingdom in The United States is
the fact that due to the Industrial Revolution in The United Kingdom and later spread to the
north of the border, mainly consisted of factories which produced large amounts of cotton in
the country itself.
Within a short amount of time, there was an increasing demand for cotton from the
other countries led to these factories developing cotton manufacturing textiles within the
countries to meet the demands of cotton from the other countries itself (Foner:257).
In U.S.A., the concept of the cotton gin was invented by a person named Eli Whitney.
This invention of the cotton gin revolutionized the slavery in the country itself, as the people
of America wanted full control of the Deep South areas as well.
Hence, it was after the War of 1812, that the American Government, wanted to
control the areas in the Deep South so that they would be able to use the land for their cotton
cultivation in the areas.
The Americans forced the native people of the country out from their lands and used
the salves to work on the lands for the purpose of cultivating cotton so that the cotton
kingdom of the country could be launched by them (Foner:313).

5AMERICAN HISTORY
With the introduction of the cotton kingdom in the country itself there came a time in
the history of The United States in the nineteenth century when increased demands for cotton
in the world led to the cotton replacing sugar as the major crop of the world which was
produced with the help of the slave labour in The United States of America itself.
It is said by the experts themselves that because of the larger quality of the cotton
production in the country itself. In fact historians are of the opinion that the three fourths of
cotton came from the South-Eastern part of The United States itself (Foner:257).
The historians also point out the fact that the sales of cotton increased so much in The
United States that cotton was being exported to the other countries like that of Great Britain,
France and also in the areas of Moscow in Russia.
Thus, it can be said that the growth of the cotton kingdom in The United States is said
to have raised the money for the country to be able to pay the price for the import of
equipment from abroad (Foner:313).
It was also used for the uniforms of the soldiers on the eve of the Civil War. All these
facts helps to explain to the readers about the growth of the cotton kingdoms in the United
States of America and the growth of the economy of the country in the nineteenth century of
the world itself.

Question – 3
Ans: In the nineteenth century United States, there was the emergence of a new kind of
economy in the country. The economic transformation of the society, also known and the
market revolution played an important role in the integration of the particular economy of the
country itself.
It was the time when the Americans in the country undertook activities which
ultimately led to the development of the market revolution in the northern parts of the country
itself. It is already known to the readers themselves that the people in the southern plantations
were already selling the products made by these slaves to the international markets in the
countries itselves (Foner:251).
As a result of these products being sold in the market place in the country of Europe
itself, it can be said that the ,market products like that of tea as well as sugar began importing
to The United States as well as the economy of the country increasing to a great amount.
Historians as well as the research scholars are of the pinion that such increase in the
sales of the products as well as the increasing of the economy of the country itself plays an
important role in the integration of the economy of the country itself (Foner:251).
It is because of the integration of the northern economy of the times that the American
people were able to inve4st in the purchasing of goods and the products from the parts of the
country itself.

7AMERICAN HISTORY
Moreover, the beginning of the nineteenth century saw the emergence of innovation
in the country of America in the form of various types of new vehicles and other
constructions like that of steamboats, canals, railways as well as the shipyards and the other
areas of construction that the country had witnessed itself. However, the historians and the
scholars also points out the fact that such innovations had led to the country losing a lot of
money itself. Hence it can be said that in order to get back the money which the country had
lost in the process itself, the people of the country started making various strategies to recover
the economy of the country itself (Foner:251).
These strategies employed by the country includes the search for the new areas for
them to settle in, reduce the transportation and other costs in the country , and also made the
farmers get the exposure to the national and the international markets in the world for selling
their products.
The exposure which the farmers gained from the selling of their products helped the
country to gain more profits from the marketplace in the world itself. This is what led to the
expansion of the markets in the America (Foner: 251)
The innovation and the introduction of the new technologies in the market itself had
ultimately established a new kind of economy in the country itself. Thus, it can be said that
the innovation of the marketplace had led to the integration of the northern economy in the
country itself.
