Literature review
According to Hardy, et al., (2017) the smartphone is an emerging technology which
helps tourists for tracking locations and places. This journal paper highlighted the implication
of smartphones in the tourism industry and identified the key aspects of smartphones. The
authors conducted a survey for a better understanding of the impact of smartphones on
tourism and analysed around 472 tourists in real time. The authors identified that securing the
hardware tracking system is a very common challenge faced by consumers while using
smartphone technology. Moreover, the researchers identified that security and privacy are
very negative impacts of smartphones on tourists.
Dickinson, et al., (2017) conducted research and identified that smartphone
technology has the ability for determining the current and future pattern of behaviours that
allows users to organise travel opportunities. In this journal paper, the authors identified the
importance of the smartphone in the field of the tourism industry and provided in-depth
analysis about smart phone technology. From this paper, it is identified that data privacy is a
major concern with the smartphone due to which consumers may lose their personal
information.
A recent study conducted by Safi, Assemi, Mesbah, & Ferreira, L. (2016) analysed
that obtaining data or information using a smart phone is one of the effective approaches
which can help tourists for findings location easily. In this research paper, the authors
discussed the role of GPS technology in the detection of location and key aspects of smart
phones. From this paper, it has found that the data may be collected with the help of an
application that is ATLAS II which can perform regular tasks in the smartphones without any
interference. Moreover, mode class identification can be developed and implemented in the
area of tourism for detecting motorized and non-motorized trips.
According to Dayour, Park, & Kimbu, (2019) backpackers perceived risks and threats
towards smart phone technology which can impact on the personal data of tourists. In this
research paper, the authors conducted a survey in order to analyse the opinions of other
experts on the research topic and evaluated that smart phone technology has the ability to
change the way of communication in an effective manner. This journal paper provided an
integrated framework for identifying risks faced by consumers while using smart phones.
