Introduction
Short term and long term career goals are necessary in order to become successful in
career. Moreover by setting career goals, job satisfaction of the candidates can be improved
and moreover there can be career progression (Brown & Lent, 2017). The main aim of the
paper is to discuss about the career gaols that are presently available in Australia and to select
a particular career goals that I would like to achieve for me. The paper will therefore discuss
about the present engineering industry of Australia, appraisal and research of career
opportunities within the engineering industry in Australia, selection of particular job role that
I aspire to get into after graduation and construction of a realistic career goal.
Discussion
The present Engineering industry in Australia
According to a recent report published by the SEEK website on the growing
industries in Australia, Engineering is one of them apart from mining, healthcare, trade and
also technology (Stewart, 2016). This is so because according to the report the above
mentioned industries experienced heavy growth in the year 2017 and it even accelerated in
the year 2018. The Engineering industry of Australia is continuous growing and therefore it
also it show any signs of slowing (Richards, 2020). According to the general manager of the
industry body engineers said that since the engineering industry has got so many projects
recently that is not going to boom back off. There has been a growth in the advertised
engineering positions in Western Australia by about 8.7% approximately (Ahmed et al.,
2017). As per a recent report as of June 2109, about 4000 engineering jobs have been
advertised across Australia with Victoria and New south Wales providing the highest number

of vacancies. Therefore it is clear that the Australian engineering industry is quite stable as
compared to other industries in Australia.
Appraisal and research of career opportunities within the engineering industry
of Australia
Therefore from the above discussion it is clear that the Australian Engineering
industry is quite stable presently and there are chances of its continuous growth in future
according to the different reports (Greco & Kraimer, 2020). Moreover for the engineering
professionals, it is a good news because according to the report of SEEK employment trends
there has been a growth in the engineering jobs ads since the past few years irrespective of a
national decline of about 7.7 % (Create., 2020). According to the report by SEEK, the salaries
of the Australian industries are on a rise and is expected to increase by 2.7% and the
Engineering industry has got placed in one of the top salaried industry list with an average
salary of approximately $ 1,77,600 (Mohamed, 2018). Moreover the Engineering companies
of Australia are known for their ability to provide proper work life balance to their
employees. For instance, the company Worley Energy Australia provides great work
environment and good work life balance to its employees.

The two job roles identified by me from the website of seek.com.au include- a
mechanical engineer and a graduate engineer. The vacancy of occupying the position of a
mechanical engineer is there in TEAM incorporation. TEAM incorporation is a global
