Introduction:
Managers and leaders are the most profitable asset for any organization seeking expansion and
growth in the field of competition or challenge. Even though the vision statement of both
manager and leader is to enhance the competitiveness of the organization in the market place,
characteristics and behavior is different which is hard to identify and observed. The following
study would state about the different role or characteristics of both manager and leader
towards increasing the performance and position status of M&S Ltd which a medium size
retail organization. Moreover, different approaches of leadership and management would be
highlighted along with the steps required to achieve the objectives or goals. Thus, factors
existing within the business environment would also be discussed along with its final impact
on the overall organization.

While leader direct the path of the organization towards profitable or positive path and guide
the employees or professionals to overcome the barriers and problems, manager on the other
hand, needs to manage or administer the entire activities or operations of the employees or
professionals (Arnold and Nelson, 2014). Further, productive mixture of both leadership and
management skills would enable the enterprise to achieve mission and vision statement and
satisfy the respective customers. Linking the same with the subject matter the overall role or
characteristics of leader under M&S Ltd is elaborated below:
Mitzberg's managerial roles
According to Mitzberg's, there are three roles has been describes that assists to leading
team in successful manner. In this aspect, person can resolving conflict and negotiating

describes at workplace of M&S:
First group (Interpersonal category): In this aspect information and ideas are providing in
positive context. Figurehead is works as manager in which legal responsibilities has been
provides in order to look towards person with authority. Further, leader provide guidance to
team in M&S to perform their roles and responsibilities. Liaison is a person who must
communicate with internal and external contact.
Second group (Informational category); In this context, three types of role determines such as
monitor, disseminator and spokesperson. Monitor regularly seek to information that are related
to M&S. Their role is to assess productivity of company in successful manner. Disseminator
communicates potential and useful information to their team members. Spokesperson
represent their organization through take responsibilities for transmitting information.
Third group (Decisional category): In this aspect, 4 types of roles has been determines such as
entrepreneur, disturbance handler, resource allocator and negotiator. Entrepreneur create
control within the organization to solve problems and generating ideas to implementing it.

Relationship between leadership and management
In respect to determines relationship between leadership and management, following
factors are responsible in the context of social responsibilities these factors such as culture,
values, ethics and sustainability plays very crucial role. The leader has to maintain its relations
with the management to run the company in forward direction for this both the factors
coordinates with each other and maintain all the above mentioned factors which are
responsible for this, it also puts relation with stakeholder and fulfil their expectation in relation

with encouraging, and for the development of the sustained entrepreneurship by providing
them full support and information regarding to these factors and for the development of the
company. It develops loyalty and trust between the employees and stakeholders and helps in
the create positive and effective strategies for the future.
Corporate Social Responsibilities:-
There are some essential Social Responsibilities which require in the organisation:-CSR is
called as the economic, legal, ethical & fulfil the needs of the society. The concept of the CSR
is that every organisation whether its and profit maximization organisation or it is a non Profit
organisation have a responsibility like moral, ethical, philanthropic respect towards the
society. The organisation should always respect and taking care of there society, after all there
are also the major part of society which affects the economy of the country.
Business Ethics & Values:-
There are some Ethics & Values are following:-
Honesty, it should be the first key element towards the society. Promise Keeping Loyal &
trustworthiness is also an important part where the organisation should maintain there trust &
understand the requirements of the customers & the entire society. They should be fair in there
work & taking the initiative towards the society. Law abiding, respect others, concern to others
are some other.
Stakeholders:- A stakeholder is known as a person, party, group, that can affect the entire
business. In other simple words the stakeholder holds there share of the company having
authorities.
Sustainability :-It is defined as a management of the all level of the business work under the
financial, environmental, obligations & roles responsibilities towards the organisation.

The study highlights the part of manager and leader towards enhancing the financial and non-
financial position and status of the organization in the market place. The characteristics of both
the above mentioned professionals is different from each other which further contributes
towards achieving the respective objectives and perform as per the requirement of the market
place. M&S Ltd needs complete re-modification of strategic and market planning to enhance
the performance of professionals and credibility of leaders in an appropriate manner.
Moreover, the working culture put significant influence towards operation management while
return from investment and political factors have impact towards decision making process or
procedure of the enterprise (Zenger, 2014).
