required to meet the Human

department-managed services.
4.2 There are four standards –
what are they?
The standards represent a single set of service
quality standards for organisations delivering
services to clients, summarised as:

4.1 What organisations are
required to meet the Human
Services Standards?
Department funded service providers and
department-managed services.
4.2 There are four standards –
what are they?
The standards represent a single set of service
quality standards for organisations delivering
services to clients, summarised as:
- Empowerment: People's rights are
promoted and upheld.
- Access and Engagement: People’s right
to access transparent, equitable and
integrated services is promoted and
upheld.
- Wellbeing: People’s right to wellbeing
and safety is promoted and upheld.
- Participation: People’s right to choose,
decision making and to actively
participate as a valued member of their
chosen community is promoted and
upheld.
4.3 Under the legislation, how
often must registration of a
community service be renewed?
12 months of initial registration but then after
3 years. Nonetheless, every 3-month service
providers are audited.
4.4 Under the Standards, service
providers must demonstrate their
compliance by undertaking
independent reviews. What will a
review include:
- Number of people accessing the service
provider’s services.
- Table outlining compliance with the
Standards Accreditation/certification
status.
- Service provider’s staff and effective
full-time positions as provided by the
service.
4.5 What should an organisation do
to make sure they remain - Stay up to date with changing laws and

5.1 If a service is found to have
breached the requirements of the
Standards and their Service
Agreement what are two
consequences they may face?
- Registration can be revoked
- Limitation can be placed on what they
can offer
5.2 A child protection worker has
been charged with a serious
drug offence. What will happen
to the worker’s working with
children check?
Hint: refer to the Victorian working
with children check website.
- Check revoked
- Charged with a criminal record
- Penalties may apply
