1. Why Statistics
The study of statistics is very essential since it equips a learner sufficient knowledge and
skills of collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data. Moreover, statistics is valuable since
through it a learner can make informed decision and effectively present results. Besides, the
statistics is a management resource in various ways; for instance, one of the branches of statistics
known as statistical quality control aid in evaluating and monitoring if a production process is
under or out of control. Furthermore, statistical concepts can be used to analyze market dynamics
thus make informed decisions about the market.
2. Research Design Process
There are eight vital steps involved in a research design process, which include problem
identification, literature review, conceptualizing a research design, identifying instruments for
data collection, selecting a sample, collection of data, analysis and interpretation of data, report
writing (Kumar, 2019).
i. Problem Identification
There is no doubt transport is an essential component in the growth of an economy thus
governments tend to invest on infrastructure that aid in transport, such as roads, railways, and
airports. Among, the above modes of transport, roads tend to record a large number of car
accidents, hence it is important to adopt measures that will aid in reducing the accidents.
Therefore, the following study seeks to exhibit the impact of providing a separate lane for slow-
moving and fast -moving vehicles to reducing car accidents on busy roads.

ii. Literature review
One of the leading causes of death associated with injury is the road accident; moreover,
it the tenth leading cause of all deaths across the globe (Wangdi, Gurung, & Duba, 2017).
Consequently, approximately 1.2 million people die each year due to road accidents and more
than 50 million are injured. Notably, the accidents tend to increase over time and if measures are
not adopted, car accidents will the third-leading contributor to the worldwide burden of disease
and injury by 2025 (Wangdi, Gurung, & Duba, 2017). Besides, the car accidents tend to have
both long- and short-term effects, which include physical (injuries), emotional (fear and anxiety),
and psychological (post-traumatic stress disorder) effects (Weisberg, 2018).
iii. Conceptualizing a research design
The study will incorporate a pre-and post-test design whereby the data collected before
and after the installation of separate lanes will be compared to exhibit any significant difference.
Generally, the study will use a quantitative research design
iv. Identifying instruments for data collection
The study will collect secondary data from the transport department and hospital within
the area; moreover, the data will be classified as fatal or minor accidents. The data collected one
year after installation (monthly basis thus twelve periods) will be compared with the data
previous year before installation.
v. Selecting a sample
As evident, the study will use the pre-and post-test study design by comparing 12 entries
or periods thus a sample will not be drawn from the population rather the entire population will
be used in the research.
