L 01, Task 01: Definition and the comparison between roles and characteristics of a leader and manager of Tesco Superstore in UK:For this assignment, Tesco on of the best and the market leader of UK retails and they areoperating their business on worldwide. Tesco starts their journey from 1924. Tesco is the marketleader of the superstores in UK for a long time with the most percentage of share and the highshare price with the high market growth among the many strong competitors of them in UK andworldwideStrong management and leadership activities helping Tesco to reach and keep their position onmarket. They are renowned with their best customer service in UK and the availability of theproducts. Strong management with the leadership skill is the key to success and reach theorganizational goals and objective. For Tesco, as they are the biggest chain of business so theyneed to maintain the strong management with the leadership skill to run their businessefficiently. Traditionally, managers are the person who is maintaining the topic that he or she is responsibleto do. Managers are involving on all the sector of the business to run the business efficiently andgive the proper guide and monitor the employees and all works of the organization. Managersgiving the direction to the employees to show the way of work. For example, in Tesco, managers are giving the decision and direction to the employees to workefficiently and, they do the performance management to understand the skills of the employeesand giving the right decision and produce the initiatives that helps to make these employeesmore efficiency. Also, Tesco managers perform to do the decision making and responsible tomake relations between employees and management to give the proper and better customerserviceOn the other hand, leadership is the skills to do the strong management and helps to make thedecisions on any emergency issues and helps to deals any issues with employees or thecustomers on the workplace. Leadership skills helps management to lock with the vision andmission of the business and helps to decision making according to these and helps to givemotivation and makes employees goals oriented to reach the success for the businessFor example, managers of Tesco should have the leadership skill to control on the huge numberof employees and customers. Because managers of Tesco should give proper direction to theiremployees to perform well on worktime and make good customer bonding and to ensure thedecisions according to pricing and the distribution channel for Tesco.The major difference between managers and leaders-Manager:The major roles and responsibility of manager to so make plan and budget for the business forany goals and objectives of the business. Managers also sets the development programs withtheir impersonal attitude on the workplace. Managers doing staff management and personalmanagement on the workplace and playing roles to organize the resource and initiatives of any

project or the whole organizational needs. Managers are showing less emotion on the workplaceand try to give direction and make the employees goal oriented and try to monitor and controlthe whole processLeader:Leaders describes the direction that helps business to reach their vision and mission with theirimpressive attitude to give the employees inspiration. Leaders are mainly giving the propermotivation and the direction that makes the employees goal oriented and makes moreinvolvement with their roles and responsibilities. According to PETTINGER,(2007) Leadershelps employees to make decision making skills on to them. Also, leaders are playing the role onthe front to face any problems or barriers in the organization on the workplace. Leader makesstrong communication between the employees, management and the customers to improve theproduction and improve the customer service. B) Tesco: Roles and responsibilities of managers and the functions on different situation at workplace:In Tesco, manager should play the leadership role to improve the service and manage the wholefunctions of Tesco.Managers of Tesco need to play the motivational facts to improve the performance of theemployees and need to do the effective performance management to ensure the positive impactof the production, sells and profit margin. Manager of Tesco need to adopt these motivationalpractices like they should encourage the staffs by giving the reward and the promotions on theorganization also can recommend for the pay rise of the higher skill workers. In general,managers task is to identify the roles and responsibility of the staffs but with adopting theleadership roles managers can identify the initiatives that can improve the performance of theemployees and make them goal oriented that will help to reach the business goals and objectiveson the same timeAlso, management should practice effective performance management by approachingleadership skills. Management job is to organize the work but this task need to monitor andcontrol that describes by the leadership skills. For Tesco, managers should adopt leadership roleto do performance management to understand the capacity of the employees and the businessitself to implement the plan. This performance management helps management to identify thebarriers and make effective decision to do recovery and make the positive process of theoperation in Tesco. It helps to understand the different situation of the operation and give morecontrol to handle the emergency on the business contextManagers need to able to take the emergency decisions by approaching the leadership skills. Ondifferent situation, customer order, customer need can be different and the stock of the Tesco canbe varying on day to day so managers should link up with these to meet the customer demandand handle them on different situation also the employees need to handle in positive way duringthe operation because the skills and capacity is different from watch other in the business so
