INTRODUCTION
Leadership is considered an effective tool to manage and run an organization. An
argumentation effective leadership quality and implementation is always a point of debate from
ages. The authored have different viewpoint on the same topic of leadership and are articles are
published from time to time presenting the various opinions from different authors and writes.
The articles and journals so published provides a total separate perspective of their thinking on
same subject matter and this lead to the fact of generation more opportunities of the analysis to
critically evaluate the articles of two or more authors and present a finding on how both the
articles presents different viewpoint exact same subject matte.
In the present report a critical analysis is conduced on two articles presents but different
authors but on the same topic of leadership. One article is by Robert Cote “ Vision of effective”
leadership and another article is by the author s Bonnie J Covelii and Iyana Mason as “Liking
theory to practice: Authentic Leadership”. Both the articles present separate view point on the
leaderships, its traits and theories. In the report below a detailed critical analysis of the both the
articles is done in context of the position of the authors, the theoretical perspective and
decontamination of the assumption taken by them in their respective article.

Presenting a critical analysis of the two articles that are present by separate authors on same
subject matter of Leadership, its style and theories
Article 1: LINKING THEORY TO PRACTICE: AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP
Article 2: VISION OF EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP
Arguments:
Writes of both the article p-resent their point on the leadership traits and quality in the
context of 21st century. As per Bonnie and Iyana in 21st century both domestic and
international organisations are lacking leadership and moreover the corruption in business
practice have increased (LINKING THEORY TO PRACTICE: AUTHENTIC LEADERSHIP,
2018). Authentic leadership is a multi-dimensional leadership theory and therefore has
similarities to transformation theory and several other leadership theories including ethical,
charismatic, spiritual and servant leadership. On the other hand argument is presented by Robert
as there are 5 leadership theories which can be defined as (1) Transformational Leadership, (2)
Transactional Leadership, (3) Charismatic Leadership, (4) Situational Leadership; and (5)

Pseudo-Transformational Leadership. The effectiveness of a leader must be enhanced for this 5
theories only. The facts has been stated by Bonnie and Iyana that authentic leadership posses
all the five theories in it but it all the five theories may or may not possess the ethical
consideration this means an authentic leader can be charismatic or situational. But a situational
leader might posses ethical; consideration or might not. On the other hand Robert compares two
leadership styles as Herb Kelleher the positive leader and Bernie Ebbers the darker side of
leaders. This analysis present the fact the lack of ethical and moral behaviour in a leader resulted
in dark side leadership. The facts are presented by Bonnies and Iyana that Authentic leadership
is been researched past 30 years and not in the 21st century it is the time to implemented this
theory in practice as this can give leadership a difference angle and dimension. With application
of authentic leadership more positivity and effective in business operations has been precipitated.
On the contrary it has been presented by Robert in his articles that leadership styles have been
evaluated and researched upon from last 2 decades and for perfect implementation of these
theories leadership strategies must be developed dan evaluated (Vision of Effective Leadership,
2018). The facts are presented that with lack of ethical perception the leaders can go to dark side
but in the another article the leaders are said to focus their direction towered ethical approach
only. This can be stated that in both research article present viewpoint of how to make leadership
effective in 21st century in industries with its efficient implementation. One article is more
focused towards developments and application of a new leadership style rather the other one is
more focuses on making the traditional leadership theories more effective with strategic
developments and elimination of darker side of the leadership.
Theoretical perspective:
The research have taken the fact in consideration that the leaders are born not made
from but also this research article have emphasised on the factor leaders must understand and
develop ethical aspects in practices. The fact from the earlier theories have been taken as
authentic fellowship especially as it relates to authentic leadership developments and use them
in four core elements of authenticity: Self-awareness, Self-regulation, Balanced processing and
Relational transparency. The sames have been supports in the research article as well. This can
be stated that in article one old Greek philosophies and research have been referred and

provided in the articles with application in present industries along with dark leadership.
Underlying assumptions:
The effective leadership strategy have been developed with taking into consideration the
traditional approaches and best practises in leadership to minimise dark side leadership in
organisation. In the article by Bonnie the facts have considered that the authentic leaders
possess an ethical and moral conduct in themselves which makes it an assumption as not every
person have his/her focus on ethical and Moral values.
Conclusion drawn by the authors:
According to Bonnie and Iyana authentic leadership is essential in present times due to
lack of practice of ethical leadership in numerous high-profile cases business. Results are drawn
by the authors, as more inclined a leader is towards authenticity the more employees related to
them and feel empowered to engage themselves in ethical and moral practices in business
operations. On the other hand the article presented by Robert Code leadership has been evolved
in past century from an autocratic centralized authority towards a democratic leader
that delegates authority. In present times effective leaders practices a behaviour oriented
approach to better understand the needs of employees. In the article one, Authentic leadership
has not been presented as a remedy for corruption and greed but rather as a positive leadership
model that emphasizes integrity, honesty, ethical and moral behavior. This theory have been also
represented as with its application in the organization the leaders are seen with their professional
development. Rather, as per Robert, objectives
and job responsibilities, set expectations, coordinate activities, check progress, and evaluate
performance are set by the leaders in present time as they are more focused on the job perfection
along with employee satisfaction.
Authors’ stance mean for leaders, followers, organisations, and society:
Bonnie and Iyana 's perspective for leader is that they must adopt a newly develop theory
of authentic leadership which authenticate the effective completion of the organizational
activities along with achievement of goals more ethically instead in another articles present that
individuals must follow a leadership theory and should avoid the dark side prescriptive with
having an ethical consideration in their behavior. For the society the viewpoint is presented as is
it the driving factors for the leaders of a business to act ethically. They have immense impact on

their behavior of an individual, both the another have sames perception about the society. The
organizational stance for one author is that a business firm plays a vital role in professional
development of a leader and this influence them to be more effective. On the other hand the
viewpoint of another author is different for a business as firm gets influences by the behavior and
conduct of leaders and behavior of a leader of governed by his personal traits. For the follower,
authors of both articles have a stance mean that the employees are the first and foremost factors
that get effected with application and implementation of a leadership style.
Learning experience from each article:
From the article 1 on authentic leadership I have learned the fact that with change in time
leaders must focus on ethical and moral practices at workplace as this can lead to developments
and growth of organisation, employees and leaders as well. On the other hand I have
developed an understanding from article two as with effective leadership quality a leader must
avoid the factors responsible for dark leadership as this can result in failure oh leaders and non
attainments of organisational gaols on time.
Personal view point on both articles:
In my view the concept and aim behind article one is precise and convenient for the 21st
century as with passing time peoples are losing ethical consideration both in personal and
professional life. With implementation of the approach in industry both social and organisation
lives can experiences a dramatic change.
My view for article to can stated as this articles is more forced on theoretical side of
traditional approached of leadership along with presenting qualities and traits of two leaders.
The one think which attracted me in this article was presentation and evaluation of the dark side
leadership as its still not much talked about.
Implementation in practice world:
As leader: as a leader of retail organisation with following the authentic leadership
theory is adopted by me and with this an ethical behaviour in whole business practices hebe
been promoted. This has been implemented as setting up bench mark of ethical behaviour for
all the activities and short time goals are set to be attained by each team as well as for every
employees. This lead to the fact that all the employees and other staff can be seen more attached
to the values and mission of the organisations and are working more dedicated in achievement
of the business goals of higher sales and increased profitability.

With getting a detailed analysis of article two the fact has been determined that for effective
leadership the leader must follow one of the traditional approach of leadership. Being a manger
of a retail store the I have applied charismatic approach in my store with this all the employees
get connect to me easily as they do not feel hesitate in taking to me and share their problems at
workplace and giving feedbacks as well.
As follower: Being an employee in IT form my leader follows authentic theory and
promote ethical behaviour in the business. With this I have seen a drastic development in my
professional conduct as I have become more dedicated to my work with having no ethical
dilemmas in certain workplace situations.
A trait found in them manager of my is, that he always follows an effective trail of
leadership with emphasising on motivating, inspiring, and empowering all employee and this
have effected me in positive manner as my work efficiency have been improved w along with
work quality.
CONCLUSION
From the above report is can be concluded that authors of both the articles present a
different viewpoint of the leadership theories and their application in business organisation in
the 21st century. The article from the author Bonnie and Iyana have emphasised on the
emergence of a new leadership theory in the name of 'Authentic Leadership'. This is referred as a
new industrial theory which is related with incorporation of traits in the leader that promotes
ethical and honest behaviour in the firm. On other hand, article from Robert Cote have puts is
focus on evaluation of the different styles of leadership which also includes dark side
leadership.
Further it can be interpreted, with critical evaluation of the both articles that in 21st
century still the older version of all the leadership styles are applicable yet there is a scope of
evaluation and implementation of a new theory of the leadership in the industry. Fro this
evaluation all the significant aspects , essential to critic article lg have been undertaken , this
can be explained as the critical aspect from authors of both articles are presented in the report
along with this the fact arguments presented b y them are referred, assumptions have been
considered and the conclusion drawn by the authors have also been analysed.
