OUTLINE:
As part of the English for Academic Purposes, Research and Study Skills course you are required to write an
essay on the topic of Climate Change; you are also expected to evidence the stages of your essay research and
writing progress in the Essay Research Workbook.
AIMS:
 To assess your ability to structure your essay in order to develop an argument with clarity and your
ability to capture your thinking in effective sentences
 To show that you have conducted research to develop your thinking
 To write in an academic tone and clearly reference the material you have used to develop and support
your ideas
As part of the assignment, you are required to submit the Research Workbook by 11.59pm on 10th October
2021 onto Canvas. Your workbook will be reviewed by your lecturer and you will receive feedback towards
your final Extended Research Essay.
It is then your responsibility to work on your final Extended Research Essay and address any suggestions and
comments given before handing in the final version – by 11.59pm on 28th March 2022.

Your workbook must be word processed, in Ariel font 12pt minimum with double line spacing. This format is
important as it makes it much easier for us to read. Word count: There is no minimum or maximum word
count for this part of the assignment.

General The climate is being defined as the average weather of a place which is same
over many years. The climate change is referred to as the change or shift in the
average condition of county’ climate.
Specific For any country there can be many different reason for which the climate may
change. Hence, it is very important for the countries to have a list of these
changes so that it can be managed in proper and effective manner.

Yes (humans cause climate change) – main ideas and support
 The major cause of climate change due to human activity is burning of fossil
fuels and other elements like coal, gas and others. All these element produces
nitrous oxide and carbon dioxide which affects the environment and can cause
climatic change.
 Another cause for climate change is cutting down the trees and forest that is
deforestation. This is also a cause because trees help in regulating the climate
as it absorbs carbon dioxide from the environment.
 In addition to this, agriculture also results in climatic changes. The reason
pertaining to this fact is that various agricultural practices results in release of
nitrogen oxide. Hence, as a result of this, the climate may change.
No (humans do not cause climate change)– main ideas and support
 No the human does not cause the climate changes because the changes in
volcanic activity also result in changes within climate. This is particularly
because of the reason that when there is volcanic eruption the CO2 is released
and this cause change in climate.
 Further, also Lyu and et.al., (2019) states that the humans do not cause change in
climate. The reason underlying this fact is that orbital change result in climatic
change. This is due to the fact that earth is having natural cooling and warming
period which is caused by Milankovitch cycle. Hence, as a result of this, there
are many variations like tilt in orbit of earth and as a result of this there are
changes in climate.
 Moreover, Sun and et.al., (2020) argued that activities of human do not result in
changes in climate of the country. Rather it can be because of the solar output.
This simply means that there is fluctuation within the radiation of earth from the
sun. hence, in case there is high amount of radiation being emitted then the
temperature of earth will increase causing a change in climatic condition.
Conclusion With the above study it is clear that there can be changes in climate and this will
affect the country and its environment. Also, it was analysed that human can cause
the change in climate but it was also analysed that some reasons states that human
do not cause any change in climatic condition.
Summary It is summarised that the human activity has both that is they cause climate
change and not as well.
Thesis It was analysed that human activities may or may not result in change in climate.
Recommendation It is recommended to the country that they must have proper watch on the factors
which might cause changes in the climate. Also, the government of country must
focus on reducing the greenhouse gas emission. This is essential so that there are
not much changes in the climatic condition.
