INTRODUCTION
Bank management is procedure of arranging the bank's statutory activity. It is outlined by
particular object of management where financial relations linked with banking activities and
create other relations that are related with the management function in banking sector (Berger,
Roman and Sedunov, 2016). The first Islamic banking was started in 1983 where different types
of bank like merchant bank, commercial bank and financial companies were allowed to offer
Islamic banking products & services under the Islamic banking scheme. To understand bank
management selected two banks Public Bank Berhad and May Bank. Both banks are following
Islamic banking and established in Malaysia. In this report discussed about the balance sheet of
Islamic bank, financial statements, discuss about the elements of assets liquidity and liquidity
profitability in assets management.
MAIN BODY
1. Described the selected two Islamic banks in Malaysia
Public Bank Berhad: This bank has been based in Kulal Lumpur, Malaysia offering
effective financial services and also in Asia Pacific region. It is one of the famous and biggest
bank in South-east Asia with over RM 363.76 billion of assets and RM 71.90 billion in market
capitalization in the year 2015. Currently, this bank provide different financial services like
personal banking, commercial banking, share broking, Islamic banking and management unit
trust funds. The bank have strong financial performance and discreet management which is
consistently. It has a network of 259 branches and over 2000 staff members in Malaysia (Brown,
2016).
Background: The Public bank has been working about 50 years in banking industry due
to measure of corporate longevity which is an accomplishment to be proud of. It has strong
financial performance which is consistently conformity with strong credit and get get effective
ratings from local and foreign rating agencies. In broad manner it is providing financial services
to 9 million and more than customers in countries where it operates.
Mission: The main mission of Public Bank Berhad to continue the position of become
most efficient, gainful and effective premier financial institution in Malaysia.
Vision: The vision of public bank leading as public bank for providing effective financial
services and fulfil the requirement of people.

May Bank: It is a Malaysian universal bank which is conducting activities into home
markets of Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia. The Brand finance report says that
this bank is valuable brand that get 5th position as top brand in Asean and 83th rank in the world's
most valuable bank brands. The market capitalization is higher of this bank as compare of other
bank with total assets exceeding US$165 billion and having a net profit of US$1.75 billion in
year 2015. It is a top Islamic bank which is listed into Bursa Malaysia and stock exchanges. It
was founded in 31 May 1960 by Khoo Teck Puat & Oei Tjong le to provide financial services
and headquarter of bank established in Menara Maybank Kulal Lumpur, Malaysia.
Background: Maybank is known as biggest bank which have great market capitalisation
as well as total assets. It has 91 rank in the Banker's 2015 top 1000 worlds banks and as per the
Forbes global 2000 leading companies have 362 rank. The bank had strong network into
different countries and set up 2400 offices all over the world where recruited about 45000 staff
members.
Mission: The mission of Maybank is to modify all the financial services that based on the
across Asisa and offer effective financial services to people in fair terms and pricing. Along with
being heart of community and have fair terms and pricing in positive manner.

2. Explain selected bank financial statements
Income Statement: It is one of three essential financial statement which is prepared by
the organisation in order to analysis the financial performance of company in particular financial
period. It is majorly used by the business owners and presents the profitability of business.
Herein analysis the performance of May Bank through income statement (Chandra, 2017). To
analysis the profitability of Public bank require to calculate total income and expenditure that
helps to collect information in proper manner. There are discussed income statement of May
bank and Public bank in comparison manner:
Compare 2018 statement of both Islamic bank
As per the analysis of income statement of May bank to examine actual position of
business. There is comparing income position of May bank with public bank of the year 2018. It
helps to analysing that bank have net interest income in year 2018 was 8099878. While in Public
bank has operating income was 4551065 in 2018. On the other side, From the amount of profit
deduct amount of those items that will not categorised into other instruments and get amount of
in 2018 was 89708. From other operating income less amount of expenses in order to get amount
of operating profit which is 3032936 in 2018. From these amounts less reclassified profit or loss
where consist of net changes in revaluation of financial investments, net change in cash flow
then get amount (12459) in 2018. After less tax amount remain amount is 2262245 in 2018. The
bank paid amount of tax was 773332 for the year of 2018. So as per the analysis it is getting in
the year 2018. From the net income less amount of the operating expenses and get result of
5754076 in 2018. From the expenditure less amount of income and get amount of profit of the
year 45510650 in 2018.
Compare 2017 statement of both Islamic bank

It is analysing that bank have net interest income in year in 2017 was 7702150 while in
Public bank it was 13566413. As per the income statemet analysis it is identified that May bank
have operating income about 24,84,1318 and in public bank it was 15,668,540. After all the
deductions at the end receive profit for the year in public bank 5060539 while in May bank it
was 6122875.
From the both bank statement it is analysed that Both have strong sources of fund
and effectively analysis actual position and get that Maybank have strong position in the market
as compare with Public bank berhad.
Balance Sheet: It is a financial statement which is presenting the position of business
where present list of assets & liabilities as well as owner capital. The balance sheet carried out all
the details of current and previous years where compare the data to track the performance
(Dagher, 2016). Balance sheet means in financial accounting, a statement which is prepared by
management in order to know the financial position by considering all assets and liabilities is
consider as balance sheet. This statement shows financial condition by involving financial
balances that helps to make clear judgement. This is important for all organisation to prepare
financial statement that can help to run a business effectively. It involves all information in
relation to assets and liabilities that helps to make profitability.
Balance Sheet of May Bank and Public bank Berhad for the year 2018
There is determined the financial position of business to analyses actual position in
market. The bank has total assets 177532858 in the year 2018 and 173253491 in 2017. There are
consisting of loans, net loan after that add the amount of the financial investments where
includes marketable securities, 13506555 in 2018 & 14679559 in 2017. Along with also
analysed the government recapitalisation bonds, investment shares add in but less the amount of
impairment loss. After that receive the amount of total financial investments 16539984 in 2018
& 18203948 in 2017. There is adding amount of the earning assets in total financial investment
also deposit from other banks ( 116812388) and deposits from bank (4217922) in the year of
2018. From the total assets less the amount of borrowings 10558656 in 2018, 5054291 in 2017.
Along with calculate total liabilities & equity of a bank which was 152442167 in 2018 &
152478451 in 2017 and total equity was 25090691 in 2018 and 20775040 in 2017. so over all
analysis of financial statement it is analysed that Bank has effective position in 2018 as compare

with 2017. In current assets consist of different items such as short term loans, marketable
securities, investment in shares, government recapitalisation bonds and many others.
Compare 2017 balance sheet of both Islamic bank
There are identified the total assets and liabilities of business to analysis accurate position
of bank effectively. The Public bank Berhad includes cash and balance with banks, reserve
repurchase agreements, derivative financial assets and many others assets that has been
categorised into current assets, fixed assets and non current assets. The bank has total assets
331786540 in 2018 and 313664765 in 2017. There are also including intangible assets that
impact on the performance. After total assets examine the total liabilities of bank where consist
of different items like deposit from customers, from banks, obligation on securities sold, other
liabilities, provision for tax expenses and deferred tax liabilities. The share capital of the business
is 9417653 in 2018 and same in 2017. Along with add amount of other reserves 849167 in 2018
and 577902 in 2017 and retained profits of bank is 23551092 in 2018 and 20760603 in 2017. So
Public bank has total equity and liabilities 331786540 in the year 2018 and 313664765 in 2017.
When all the activities of 2018 compare with the 2017 so it is analysed that bank has good
performance in the year 2018 and improve the performance. The current assets of this bank cash
and balances with banks, reverse repurchase agreements, financial assets at fair value by profit &
loss, financial assets held for trading, financial investment at fair value by other comprehensive
income and many others.
Cash flow statement – This is a financial statement which is used to summarise the
amount of cash and cash equivalents entering and leaving the organisation. This statement is
prepared by management in order to know the financial position of company that suggest what
steps need to be taken further for the purpose of attaining business goals. This statement
measures how well an organisation monitor and manages its cash position and profitability. Such
statement is used to manage the financial information and increase the productivity. All income
and expenses are covered in sash flow statement (De Roover, 2017).

As per the above chart it is understanding that cash flow from operating activities where
7366 in 2018 and 3369 in 2017. Along with from financial activities get amount of 4971 in 2018
and 1812 in 2017. These activities presents that cash and cash equivalents increase and impact on
the business activities.
Statement of Cash flow of public Bank Berhad
To analysis the liquidity position of business prepare cash flow statements that helps to
analysis of cash flow from operating, investing and financial activities. There are including
different items into operating activities like reserve repurchase agreements, statutory deposits
with central banks, bills and acceptance payable and many others. After that add all the amounts
and get result of 9837708 in 2018 and 5567640 in 2017. After that calculating cash from from
the investing activities where consist of purchase of property and equipment, proceeds from
disposal of property and equipment get the total amount of (5273771) in 2018 and (2484379) in
2017. At the end calculate cash flow from financing activities in which include dividends paid to
equity holders, net proceeds from issuance of debt securities and many other and get total
amount of (1532235) in the year 2018 and (1658000) in 2017. After calculation from three
activities analysed of cash & cash equivalents increased by 1606441 in 2018 and at the end of
year it remains 9416853 & 6385151 in 2018 & 2017 respectively (Kay and Alder, 2017).
3. Discuss the elements of liquidity and profitability in assets management
To analysis the liquidity of the bank and level of profitability calculate financial ration
that helps to analysis the accurate position and determine on past year experience basis (Uphoff,
2019).
The elements of the assets liquidity:

There are identified different liquid assets that consist of in bank like cash in hand,
marketable securities, cash at bank, accrued income, accounts receivables and advances. There
are calculated financial ratio to analysis liquidity position such as:
May Bank
May Bank operate its business activities at large level in banking industry which is
depended on prudential principles and is always in conformity with regulations imposed by bank
and all the financial activity of authority and regulations. Therefore, the bank had bound up to
spread out loans and shariah financing due to facing different issues in regard of economic
growth, the financial ratios. There are presenting all the financial ratio that presents profitability,
liquidity and compliance. The profitability ratio is financial metrics which is applied to analysis
the capability of an organisation in order to generate its revenue, balance sheet assets and
shareholder equity (Khan, 2016).
From the above table it has been analysed that Gross net profitability ratio of bank 2.66%
in 2018 and 3.00% in 2017. Similarity net profitability ratio of bank 1.57% in 2018 and 1.83% in
2017. So both ratio presents the financial position goes down of bank because of less profit
generate by bank. When profitability ration of 2018 compare with 2017 so get result in less
manner that impact on performance of business. Return on assets, return on equity part of
profitability ratio which is analysed that 1.48% & 9.47% in 2018 and 1.23% & 8.86% in 2017
respectively. The liquidity coverage ratio define about the liquid position of bank that helps to
analysis the value of cash in business (Kurian, 2018) (Lasserre, 2017).

From the overall analysis it is getting that the bank have goof financial position in 2017
as compare with 2018 so require to improve position effectively (Macmillan Education Ltd,
2015) .

As per the above calculation analysis the performance and determine profitability of bank
in order to analysis actual position in banking industry. There are identified the return on average
assets of bank and risk weight-age assets in order to analysis that bank have 16.9% in 2018 and
13.9% in 2017 (Salhuteru and Wattimena, 2015).
Liquidity profitability dilemma in the asset management
The LP dilemma outline about the banks have conflicting objectives to acquired in
effective manner. At the end of bank thrive to maximize profitability to fulfil the requirement of
shareholders. A bank wants to invest amount in different activities to get benefits in loans and
advances. While, there is required to arrange its liquidity that enough for the cash and other
liquid asset to meet customer withdrawals and other requirements.
CONCLUSION
As per the above report it has been concluded that to conduct different financial services
to provide customer services. The selected bank follow the Islamic banking which is mostly
prefer by the Malaysia people. There are interpreted financial statements of both bank to analysis
the financial performance. From the balance sheet and income statement it is analysed that May
bank has good position in banking industry and get top rank that provide competition to other
banks. Public bank Berhad also have good position but May bank have more profitability and
good financial position.
