PART 2
Task 1
Environmental resource efficiency improvement plan
Purpose:
6
The core purpose is to reduce the consumption of energy for reducing cost and its
negative impact on the environment.
Overview:
The Market World Shopping Centre has started working on it and has identified the areas
of improvement which will help it in achieving its purpose.
Resource areas and targets:
The main areas for resource management is the energy department as the consumption of
energy is high in Market World Shopping Centre. Thus, the target is effectively utilizing the
limited resources available.
Measures and tools to implement
Introducing the energy saving lights and electricity appliances which will help in
reducing the energy consumption resulting into cost saving as well.
Strategies for ensuring staff compliance
Raising awareness of unnecessary usage of electricity with respect to its impact so that
minimum usage of electricity appliances will be done.
Strategies for purchasing and selecting the supply chain
Market World Shopping Centre will look for supplier providing quality lighting
equipment which is cost saving and longer life along with a reasonable price as it will be
purchased in bulk.
Potential savings
The company is looking to replace all the 20 light bulbs which were rated at 0.070 KWH
in the kitchen area with the 20 new energy saving and durable bulbs at 0.013 KWH, resulting
into cost saving of
20 * 0.057 KWH = 1.14 KWH * $0.30 = $0.342 per hour
Used for 10 hours per day, which amounts to 10* $0.342 = $3.42/day
Monitoring and evaluating strategies
Different measuring tools such as budgetary control, benchmarking will be used for
evaluating the performance which helps in making changes in the strategies as and when
required.
