1. Reviewing stimulated workplace related information for the Pitstop Ltd.
As reviewed in the case pitstop is counted as the privately owned enterprise that operate
an independent service station within the Melbourne's north. An owner of the company, Jim
Murphy working as a chairman has run a company for last five years. He operated a service
stations for over last twenty five years and instruct its staff by using his hands-on method. In last
eight months, Pitstop raised an adequate finance for buying out an ISS chain relating to its nine
stores around Victoria, Queensland, NSW and rebrand all these as the Pitstop. Jim planned for
continuing an expansion till optimum target of the 30 service stations is been secured for
Victoria, Queensland and the NSW market. Service stations of the Pitstop trade for the whole
day that is 24 hours. It typically includes the vehicle access forecourt with minimum 6 pump
stations, food bar, managers stockroom, retail shop and managers offices. They also sell the fuel,
gas, hot pies, oil, supermarket goods, cold drinks etc. With inclusion of the retained workers
from ISS buyout stores, the company is having the workforce of around 60 employees. The staff
belongs from the different range of the linguistic and the cultural backgrounds. The significant
proportion of the employees has poor literacy skills along with poor reading. Major of the
employees contains a higher secondary education level.
2. a. Requirements of an enterprise in respect of WHS management
In accordance to WHS strategic plan of Pitstop, it aims for becoming a largest and
leading provider of the snacks and the fuel for the Australian motorists. The company committed
in facilitating its customers and the employees with healthy and the safe environment. It requires
an organizational structure that should include one CEO under whom three managers will be
appointed such as executive assistant, retail manager, finance and the operational managers.
Under the operational and a finance manager, senior accountant and the records clerk need to be
appointed. Moreover, it requires store managers, cashiers under a retail manager.
2.b. Accountabilities and the responsibilities for the WHS
The employees of Pitstop are responsible for the day activities, ongoing activities, and the
weekly activities that are been conducted within the work premises of the firm. The ongoing
activities includes serving the customers, resolving the issues that are attached with use of the
petrol and the LPG pumps. Receiving and storing the frozen food items, balancing the cash
registers and mopping the floors. In context of the day activities, employees are responsible for

cleaning all the forecourt pumps, replacing the supplies and the water on forecourt, changing the
display board and moving the stock from the reserve to the retail shelves. For weekly activities
they are been assigned for looking over receiving the deliveries of the petrol and the LPG, re-
organising the reserve stock, measuring fuel volumes in an underground storage tanks. The store
managers are responsible for monitoring the employees under the supervision, helping the
employees where it needed, inducting new staff, coaching or training the employees, providing
the report to the top executives. Store managers has to develop sales, banking and the inventory
report on the daily basis for the general managers. Moreover, on an annual basis they will be
developing an a performance development and the review program.
2.c. Process and risk management of WHS
Under WHS, the procedure and the risk management policy are been implemented within
the stores as unwanted chemicals must be eliminated fro flagship stores, some of the goods are
supplied in the quantities which make their lifting very much difficult. Anti glares screens are
been installed on computer and the point of scale screens, No stress related mats for cashier who
stand on the concrete floors for the 7.5 hours shift. In the process, the company make extensive
use of the personal protecting equipments that involves eye and the hearing protection but is not
always used by the staff. In order to eliminate the risk in the store, emergency posters should be
there and proper safe procedures must be available. Material safety sheets must be available for
major of the dangerous goods like petrol and the LPG. Proper first aid kits must be present in
each and every store by the store managers. Register regarding the hazardous substances and the
dangerous items is to be kept in the store so that risk could be avoided or eliminated.
2.d. Record keeping and documenting needs in order to monitor and review compliance
Records clerk is mainly responsible for keeping and maintaining the records and the
documentation that includes the training records of the employees and the sub-contractors for
providing an evidence of the workplace competencies. Rehabilitation policy and the record-
keeping policies has to be framed in order to monitor and review the compliance requirements
has been met or not. Records regarding claims of workers compensation has to be kept.
Insurance policies are to be framed appropriately after buying out of ISS service stations. In a
file, relevant documents must be discovered involving current policy and the procedures that has
been adopted from buyout stores. Documents relating to policy and the procedures also need to
be recorded that reasonably commit external parties and the career responsibilities.

2.e. Training need and employee capability
Employees has to provide proper training and the instruction relating to safety measures
that they need to take care while performing the task. As some of the employees is having a
language problem so the need to provide proper coaching and the lecture regarding the way the
task needs to be performed. Hiring such employees that posses high skills and are knowledgeable
in the field of service stations.
3. Reviewing summary of the consultation meeting with the organizational stakeholders for
gaining an input proposed with the WHSMS
After making consultation with the stakeholders that is Amanda, it has been viewed that
she was been concerned about no. of incidents when the Pitstop buyout the ISS. Safety
performance, due to the poor and an antiquated practices of record-keeping was counted as very
difficult in making the evaluation while she was been able to compile with fuel spills that might
have the catastrophic conditions. There present a risk relating to failing in complying with the
environmental laws and risk regarding the potential loss of the customer goodwill. Larger
number of an enterprise is been worrying and is symptomatic towards the shortage of the
procedures and the training for all the processes. Meeting with a worker representative stated
that Pat lee has raised an issues regarding the health and safety in buyout stores over last two
years. Store managers founded as unclear about the process of reporting and legal obligations.
Jim, a CEO seems to get appreciation as the great oral communicator while workers complaint
that no any written instructions are been given to them. The workers were unsure in relation to
the issue raised from them and are not counted as sure about the interest of the shift managers
and the store managers.
4. Conducting research on legal framework of WHS
The legal framework of the WHS includes-
Protecting the employees and the other people who are working in the organization to
eliminate the risk measures.
Facilitating fair and the effective representation, cooperation and the consultation.
