Assignment on Building Information Modelling (BIM)_2
Executive summary
Building Information Modelling (BIM) is there to help in resolving challenges associated with
the construction information management technique. Some of the benefits of BIM include its
ability to facilitate analysis and accumulation of construction information, which permits easy
management and standardization of knowledge, contributing to communication between
different parties who are involved in the construction process, hence enhancing and promoting
cooperation and effectively contributing to effective information management. Building
Information modelling execution plan is defined as a plan prepared by the suppliers in the
construction industry to explain how different information modelling aspects of project will be
carried out. BIM implementation is a compressive plan (document) developed to help the project
team to recognize and implement the role and responsibilities of BIM in the execution of a
construction project at any given level of the project. EIR is a very important documents for the
BIM users working to the level-2 process. EIR is intended to be part of the wider tender
document which are set for the procurement of the contractor and the design team.
Introduction
Globally, construction projects are increasingly becoming complex and large, with construction
techniques, technologies and the like advancing rapidly. Also, the clients in the construction
industry are increasingly making diverse sets of demands while all related laws and regulations
undergo rapid changes (Holzer, 2016, p. 193). Different types and categories are created by
the construction projects. Particularly, the construction stage needs the input of different
resources and it creates various sets of information. This is because the construction stage is the
point where the building starts to take shape based on the blueprints, for any construction project

to be successful it requires a well-laid management plan of the large quantities of information.
(IFMA, 2013, p. 247)
This report focuses on the defining the Building Information Modelling (BIM) related documents
and all the amendments required to be done to the existing documentation for construction of
National Army Museum for the Ministry of defense (Krygiel & Nies, 2015). The defined
documents and the amendments to be done will facilitate the procurement of the National Army
Museum to be managed and controlled in line with the current government’s Building
Information Modelling recommendations (IFMA, 2013) (Borrmann, et al., 2017, p. 69).
The contents, requirements and purpose of this documents to deliver the National Army Museum
in line with their requirements are explained.
BIM documentation
Building Information modelling (BIM) documentation is very important to BIM and it is usually
required to be carried out at different project stages. BIM-specific documents usually give clients
and project team member’s information which ensures that they are aligned. The information
helps the team to understand how the management and flow of data is generated and shared
throughout the lifecycle of a project (Kensek, 2018, p. 271)t. Construction projects with well-
coordinated documentation have recorded more efficient outcome, this has been attributed to
following a clear and concise set of documents, generated at the start of the project.
Procurement of National Army Museum offices for The Ministry of Defense
The National army Museum, currently is the leading authority on the history of the British Army.
Usually it maintains, gathers and presents the history of the national army and its key impacts
and roles in the global history. National Army Museum is an executive non-departmental public
body under the Ministry of Defense. (Sacks, et al., 2015, p. 523)

Key recommendations supporting the BIM strategies in the UK
Leave competition to supply chain sector
UK has a competitive and mature market in the construction industry, therefore unnecessary
complexity and competitiveness should be avoided in the BIM. (Pittard & Sell, 2010, p. 118)
Be precise with supply chain suppliers
The contract basics should be clear and precise, about what is to be delivered and responsibility
of the supplier (Mordue, et al., 2016, p. 259). This is because issues may arise in case a
supplier has to deliver a complex set of information across the chain of supply. (Columbia
University Press, 2017, p. 158)
Make active usage of productivities
To ensure key decisions get support using information that is verified, the government client
should make active use of the productivities of BIM. (Thompson, 2013, p. 525)
Provision of proper support in infrastructure
Some level of venture in infrastructure is needed to ensure infrastructural works are simple and
empowered
Take advanced steps
The above recommendations are small but very significant in the BIM. Due to their nature, they
should be adopted and implemented fully.
Have a clear target in the industry
Assignment on Building Information Modelling (BIM)_5
A clearly defined target should be developed in the BIM sector. This will ensure and promote
motivation of the entire building and construction industry in the UK. (König, et al., 2013, p.
106)
Building Information Modelling Documents
This are documents required during the construction of National Army Museum offices, to
ensure that the project is managed and controlled in line with the current government’s BIM
recommendations (Hardin, 2014). Some of the BIM related documents includes;
BIM execution plan (BEP)
Project Execution Plan (PEP)
BIM Implementation Plan (BIP)
Employer Information Required (EIR)
Common Data Exchange (CDE)
Master Information Delivery Plan (MIDP)
BIM Standards
BIM Execution plan (BEP)
Building Information modelling execution plan is defined as a plan prepared by the suppliers in
the construction industry to explain how different information modelling aspects of project will
be carried out. (Smith & Tardif, 2011, p. 197)
Purpose of BEP
The plan is normally developed both post- and pre contract and is normally prepared as a direct
response to the employer’s Information requirements. It usually details the project deliverables
