INTRODUCTION
Business environment is said to be the sum of the internal and external environment that
impacts the working of the organisation. Elements such as employee of the organisation, the
expectations and needs of the customers, technology, social trends and supply and demand are
the factors that impacts the working of the business. The largest sector that contributes in the UK
economy is construction. The contribution that construction company made is in billions with
covering wide range of the tasks that comprises 10% of UK employment. The construction
sector is considered as the investment led sector in which the government of the company has
high amount of interest. The contract made in the construction industry and the government in
order to improve the whole infrastructure of the nation whether it is health, education industry
and transport industry. The country UK have the high class experience in the field of
architecture, engineering and design(Awwad, Shibani and Ghostin, 2019) . This report is being
made in the context of Thames Tideway Scheme . The aim of this report is to highlight the
important construction project in UK that covers the environment comprised the stages that
involves the construction of the projects . It also provides the overview in respect to roles that
played by professional entities in the mentioned projects.
TASK
Various sectors in the built environment-
The build environment also known as the construction sector. This covers different
activities such as delivery of buildings, industrial sector and infrastructure. The construction
process starts from planning, financing and designing and this process continues till the asset is
ready for use. This sector promotes the economic growth in the country. The construction is
further classified into two categories that are; residential and non residential. This sector includes
the large public constructing works, bridges, dams, highways, railways, water and utility
distribution(BOMPIGNANO and GHIORZO, 2018). The industry construction includes mining,
quarrying, refineries, power mills, offshore construction, chemical processing, and
manufacturing of plants. Reference to the different sector is as follows;

Building construction: This term is also known as real estate properties sites. This builds the
structures on the land areas. This construction is started by the owner of the land and when the
construction is complete the land owner sells the building compulsorily to the use of public. This
is further divided into non residential and residential buildings.
Residential construction: These are the construction sites that are undertaken by the home
builders, property constructors, property developers, or individual landlords.
Non residential construction: this type of constructed building is acquired by the organizations,
businesses, which could be transport undertaking, local authorities, or some other companies.
Infrastructure construction: This type of construction includes designing, constructing and
maintaining the man made and naturally build environment (Brooks and Lindner, 2018). This
includes the construction works for public like; bridges, roads, pipelines, dams or railways and
many more.
Industrial construction: This type of construction includes the factories, power stations, plants,
distilleries, quarrying and mining and the off shore constructions like oil and natural gas drilling
sites.
Detailed background of the project-
Thames Tideway Scheme is the combined construction which is running under the tidal section
of the UK river Thames across the London. The project is being running for capturing and
storing the raw sewage rainwater which is currently overflowing into the estuary. This happens
when rainwater or the volume of the rainfall exceed capacity of Bazalgette's and the London
sewerage system. The first phase which is tunnelling phase of the project was completed in
2022. This project is started in 2016 and the aim to complete this whole project is in 2024. But
because of the pandemic the date of the completion changes to 2025. the diameter of the main
tunnel will be 7.2m. The main of this tunnel is to connect the 34 most polluting sewer overflows
which may rise gradually because of climatic change and the population growth of the country.
New development projects will improves the urban planning and imposes the new sustainable
drainage systems(Cavalieri, Cristaudo and Guccio, 2019). The main aim of this Thames
Tideway Scheme is to ensure that the overflow of the raw sewage rain water can be controlled.
And with the scheme that build the tunnel that regulates the over flowing of the water is very
much helpful for the local residents. The project is not been completed yet.

This refers to the sequential progress of a project. There are various small or big phases involved
in the time span in which the project operates or runs. This depends on the project size and the
company. The phases of the projects have specific time or being started and the end of the phase.
Thus the projects life cycle determines the actions that has to be done in the project. The
company has to ensure that the actions are being performed in the whole capacity. The different
phases involved in the projects life cycle are as follows;
Project initiation: This is the first step of the project life cycle. This step includes steps like;
studying feasibility, analysation of scope, identifying the stake holders of project and the
deliverables, forecasting of the project cost, development of the case of business and the
decision-making on the timeline of the project for completion.
Project planning: When the first phase is completed and the approval of the project is given
then the planning starts. This step includes creating the project plan, detailing the tasks which are
to being performed, dividing the resources among phases and this also analyses the complexity
that can arise in the project. This step also decides the capital requirements (Charlson, 2022).
This stage includes risk analysation and all the details which are relevant to the project objectives
and goals and provides the path by which this can be achieved. This includes activities such as
planning, creation of resource plan, estimation of budget, resource gathering and risk

Project execution- The work of the main tasks starts from here in this stage after evaluating all
