Introduction
With the development of technology, the risk of data breach cases also enhances. Offenders
choose different cybercrime techniques in different cases that mostly involve phishing,
hacking, password attacks and cross-site scripting attacks. An incident of data breach leads
to many serious consequences to an organization. Recently many of the cases related to data
breaches have been reported in news. The incident of data breach selected for this report is
related to Australian Catholic University. The case is very recent where unknown attackers
have accessed sensitive information related to staff of ACU (Acu.edu.au, 2019). In the
presented report, the focus will be made on different aspects related to this case such as the
importance of Information technology for chosen business, the manner in which the same
uses IT, type of risk associated with the same, benefits of using IT in the organization and so
on. Lastly, some recommendations will also be made regarding the way in which selected
business must monitor the IT system.
Does ACU require IT?
As mentioned above, the selected business is Australian Catholic University. It needs IT for
many reasons. Firstly being a university it gives employment to many of the staff members
and to keep their records such as bank details, their joining and work tenure records, records
related to attendance and so on, ACU uses information technology. Apart from tutors, IT is
also necessary for students. Distance learning courses are spreading their routes in a very
fast mode. In the world of globalization where students of different countries want to get
enroll themselves with ACU, the university is obliged to provide its services to students via an
online portal and therefore again need IT. ACU provides online access to its courses to
students. Data collection is another area where IT plays an important role. In 2018, a total of
34,852 students was enrolled with ACU (Acu.edu.au, 2018). In this manner to keep the
records related to these many students, the university is depended on the use of technology
since keeping physical records is not possible and reliable.
Importance of IT for business survival
If to discuss the importance of IT from the perspective of business survival, this is to state that
it improves the quality of work. The world is changing very fast and people have no time to
spend on affairs that can be done easily through IT. There are many reasons for that IT
