Personal Reflection
In the course I have learnt about the concept of business communication and
its importance in the organization. Last few weeks of the sessions were great
experience for me as I understood the various types of business
communication, etiquettes and presentation of professional documents and
many more. I think during this learning or in all the class sessions I was
attentive and performed well in this subject because this topic is related to
the practical world how effective business communication can benefits to
become a great and successful personality. From the beginning I learnt that
business communication is the process of transferring ideas, information and
opinions in between two parties that is the sender and receiver. The
communication can be done through various forms that are vernal,
nonverbal, oral or written communication. The nonverbal communication is
considered as the most important form of business communication (Bovee
et.al, 2016). Further I get to know that elements of effective business
communication are sender, channel, receiver and feedback.
I changed my opinion about the business communication after the sessions, I
believed that verbal communication is the only way to communicate with
others but I learnt that nonverbal communication speaks more as “action
speaks louder than words”. Nonverbal communication includes gestures,
postures, eye contact, body language, tone, pitch and facial expressions
(Mehrabian, 2017). Most of the people don’t understand this and face
challenges in exercising this form of communication. I believe that I possess
good communication skills, I can communicate effectively to others but here
are some areas where I need to improve. Further, I identified during sessions
that listening is also important part of communication in order to make
business communication effective listening skills are important.
Next aspect that I took interest in was presentation techniques in the
business communication. A person has to be careful about using the words in

office and in business meetings because wrong choice of words can affect
the oral communication and due to that listeners can also feel offensive. I
think I need to improve my presentation skills by shifting my focus on
understand the audience then choosing right word. These sessions helped
me out to figure out the problems or weaknesses that I have in related to
communication. This need to be improved because business communication
is important for success of organization, lack of communication or ineffective
communication leads to conflicts in the organizations. Effective business
communication helps the management to achieve goal and to improve the
business practices by reducing errors (Myers et.al, 2018).
From the last weeks learning I concluded that business communication is not
limited to receiving and sending messages rather it also involved qualities of
the communicator. I understand that written communication is the best way
in order to attract the readers. I realized that after the completion of my
course I will get job on the basis of my resume and through that I learnt that
the information in resume should be presented in a way and in precise
format like “short and crisp” so it can take reader attention. So in the
business emails, memo, agendas, and minutes all this require effective
writing skills. The important communication skills are listening skills,
presentation skills, effective questioning skills, and writing skills (Tang,
2019).
Business communication process proves to be beneficial for decision making
in the businesses. Nowadays nature of the working environment has
changed and due to that process of communication also become complex.
The working environment in the organizations changed from individual to
team efforts. Here comes the role of communication in order to ensure
coordination between the team members and organizational goal (Anders,
2016). One of the issues that I faced in understanding this concept was that
how communication can be effective in this complex structure. I learnt that
in the decision making process communication plays a vital role as all the
