INTRODUCTION Business communication is information sharing between people outside and inside a business that is performed for benefit of commercial (Marrone, Shah and Gracia - Sancho, 2016). The company shares information to promote the products as well as services to customers. The Cinnamon Grand Hotel is a five star luxury hotel which is situated in Sri Lanka. The report will lay emphasis on purpose and principle of types of organizational communication. Principle of effectivecommunicationwillbeexplainedunderthisreport.Thereportwillcoverthe communication practise and the analysis of barriers and related discussion to overcome these barriersthroughstrategieswillbehighlightedinthisreport.Theeffectivenessof interdepartmental communication will be covered in this report. In hospitality industry, the hotels are kept informed their members of staff in their work place to develop and coordinate with other members. Through effective communication the appropriate message is reach to right person at right time. In addition to thisVroman, Arthanat and Lysack,(2015) Managers need to communicate with employees to carry out the task and about timelines of the desired task. The manager by applying specific communication skills to motivate the staff members. The purpose of communication in organization is to motivate the employees so that they can perform well to accomplish the task. The hospitality industry enable effective communication for the purpose of establishing effective networking work place and formal as well as informal meetings. This enables to create goodwill in business along with social setting among employees. According to theMarrone, Shah and Gracia - Sancho (2016),The principle of effective communication are begins with using formal language and expression. A clear picture of message must be interpreted to receiver by the use of brief worded information. Along with claritythemessagemustbecompletewhichinvolvesthemessageconsistsofrequired information which is matches with the requirement of receiver. The message must be finish and involves all the essential elements of message to create effective organizational communication. InaccordancewithVroman,ArthanatandLysack,(2015)Concisenessthe communication is in the least possible words. The words must be in the least words along with relevant information and also not include unwanted duplication of words. The concreteness is another principle which involves guidelines to help concrete information. Concrete message is strength of communication in which specific facts and figures are indicated. In the view of Gunathilaka, Smart, and Fleming (2017) the practise of communication increase the satisfaction of employees for the job and also the companies' productivity increases with the effective communication practise. The grievance of employees is properly and timely handled by company and it directly impacts on decrease on employees turnover by executing communication practise effectively. ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION To facilitate inter departmental cooperation The inter departmental communication within Cinnamon Grand Hotel which can be improved by taking following measures are : Facilitateconsistentcommunications-ThehotelCinnamongrandfacilitatesa consistency in their channel of communication (Gunathilaka, Smart and Fleming, 2017). The department members provides aid in order to coordinate with each other by enabling consistent channel of communication. 3
Promote an informal venue-The hotel must enable an informal venue for execution and meeting of project by team members. This helps to flow in effective and quick manner but also build good human relationship which enables the employees to satisfy their social needs. To develop a common language- The hotel is facing difficulty from inter departmental communication which enables confusion among different staff members of different department by using various language in the work place. The hotel Cinnamon grand must use common language to avoid any misrepresentation and to conduct effective communication. Barriers face in communication and strategies to overcome them. Language barriers-The barrier of language is a great barrier to effective communication in hotel Cinnamon Grand hotel (Fujimura, Pierce, and Sutherland, 2015). The message includes jargon and abbreviations when communicating with audience and misinterpretation among them is common as the terminologies use by speaker is not familiar with employees and other members. Physical barriers-The communication execution is easier in shorter distance and takes time with the increase in distance (Barriers to effective communication,2019). The execution of face to face communication is available but with the advancement of technology the impact of this barrier reduces. Systematicbarriers-Thebarrierexistsincompaniesthatfollowslongformal communication in work place. The delay in communication and distort of message is common in accordance with this barrier. The meaning gets change by the process of communication in hotel Cinnamon Grand. The measures to overcome this communication barrier is that the speaker must always avoid the slang language in organizational communication along with it the use of common language in all over the hotel and the staff of Cinnamon Grand Hotel (Rakkesh, Weerasinghe, and Ranasinghe, 2016). The media must be also chosen appropriately for communication in Hotel as lengthy message is convenient more with email than telephonic conversation. CONCLUSION The above study was about business communication for Hotel Cinnamon Grand. The report begun with literature review the principles of organizational communication. Also, the effective communication was explained under this report. Then comes discussion and analysis to 4
