INTRODUCTION Business ethics is defined as a practice of business in which ethical practices and approaches are used to conduct the business operations. This report is based on the case study of Marks and Spencer Company in respect to business ethics. Company was established in the year 1884 by the founder Michael Marks and Thomas Spencer. Company is associated with retail sector and deals in clothing line, home product and food products. This report will project about the ethical issue denoted as pay gap will discuss. Role of business in society will also understand in this report. Stakeholders will also discuss to deal with the issue. What are the ways can be used to implement such theories in organisation level. Reflection will also be a part of this report over leadership. PART 1-A Ethical issue Ethical issues are claimed as such issues that restrict the company to follow the regular operations in normal manner. This is more like issues related to ethical practice. In Marks and Spencer Company different ethical issues company is involved with in order to conduct the business operations. The main issue company has been associated with as a part of ethical issue can be projected in the following manner. Gender pay gap Gender pay gap is defined as discrimination on the ground of gender in regards to paying the individual employees in company. This is among the most significant ethical, issue part of the organisation. In Marks and Spencer Company recently the pay gap has been noticed as the female employees in company have registered complaints against the pay gap on the basis of the gender (Freeman and McKain, 2019). This is covered under discrimination at work place where the female employees of company are discriminated on the ground of gender in term to pay the employees. This all issue is directly related to companies and other corporate organisations weather the gender gap can be seen and monitored. Earlier in all the organisation the gender pay gap has registered. The legislation has changed allot the entire situation of gender pay gap. Now even in companies HRM manage the issues of pay gap. In companies in case any employee is facing any kind of discrimination it can register the issue in employee grievance section to protest the issue and get the best treatment in organisation (Bhattacharya and Roy, 2018). In Marks and Spencer Company gender pay gap is not register at direct level but at indirect level it still a part of the organisation. Even the management of Marks and Spencer Company have taken steps like creatingemployeegrievancecentre,antidiscriminationcentretodealwiththeissue efficiently. After all these efforts still the gender pay gap can be seen in organisation. Companies can play a major role in dealing against the issue along with the government to make legislation against the discrimination. Example of good and bad ethics Good ethics In Marks and Spencer Company management has opposed HRM department to personally view all the issues employee in company face. This can be projected as the example of good ethical policy in company. Good ethics allow company to establish a proper work culture in company. This kind of gestures in organisation also channelize into employee satisfaction in organisation and management of Marks and Spencer Company.

In this modern world, most employees fully understand different attempts which has taken by upper management, leaders and managers by a company. So that, upper management at M&S should avoid to give power of leader to those people within workplace which perfectly aware about the business ethics. There is proper knowledge of business ethics should always have within leaders of M&S. This retail company is always aiming for achieving long-term benefits, in which its leaders and manager not follow business ethics in their daily operations, then this company can’t achieve its decided targets within the UK’s retail industry (Lepeley, Von Kimakowitz and Bardy, 2016). Many times, leaders provide growth opportunities to only those people who close to him or her, in which this attempt of leaders is completely unethical. By conducting this type of attempts, no leader can easily achieve its various teamwork objectives within the company’s business environment.
Currently M&S should have workforce of only many skilled and talented employees, because these types of employees are able to put their great efforts in the workplace in caparison of other employees. In this situation, this retail company can’t achieve this type of workforceswithoutethicalleaders.Basically,an ethicalleadermostlytakesdifferent decisions towards developing various skills and abilities of its employees and team members (Suriyankietkaew and Kantamara, 2019). That leader goes to upper management for taking permission to provide some specific training and development sessions. By participating in these sessions, an employee can easily develop its various skills and abilities, and at the end these employees will be able grow themselves within the workplace. After developing various skills and abilities employees can be enabled for putting great efforts within the workplace as well. This is the main reason that, all leaders within the M&S should always consider different business ethics in their daily operations. CONCLUSION It can be concluded that top-level management of Marks and Spencer (M&S) always need to follow all ethical considerations within its workplace. It is very necessary to this company for gaining an effective workforce, because in this dynamic world most people always give priority to only that workplace where present management has successfully implemented the business ethics in daily operations. On the other side, top-level management should give order to its various employees, managers and leaders also for always considering different business ethics within respective business operations (Hooper, 2016). Currently there are various theories available to upper management of this company, in which these theoriescansupporttomanagementforsystematicallymaintainingethicswithinthe workplace. There are leaders of M&S highly need to be ethical in a teamwork, because it is necessary to them for improving performance and productivity of all employees and team members.
