Purpose of the
article
The purpose of this article was to identify management strategies that are
used by small businesses located in small communities across the United
States of America it was aimed at doing an investigation of the differences
in management strategies among family businesses in small communities.
Theory The article has used comprehensive strategic management approach that
deals with market preferences, industry structure, and internal capabilities.
The strength of this strategic framework is that it ensures it deals with both
the internal and external business environment and therefore the most
effective strategy. It provides guidelines for staffing, controlling planning
and organization of a business. However, the drawback of this framework
is that it does not provide for managerial functions under specific situations
like small family businesses operating in a small community environment.
Methodology The methodology used was a household-based survey with the view of
determining whether anyone at home owned a business where sampling
method was used. Data from the 1997 National Family Business survey
was used. 14, 000 households were subjected to a telephone interview to

determine whether anyone was a family business manager. 1, 116 people
met the criteria and were who were further subjected to a 30-minute
telephone interview where 794 participated giving 71.1% general response.
This methodology is cross-cultural fir it can be employed in different
business cultures all over the world.
Data analysis In this journal, cluster analysis of data was used. The minimum variance
method of Ward of cluster analysis was selected. As a way, if validating
the clusters, significance tests were conducted in the three strategy factors
used in the cluster's creation.
Findings and
conclusion
The finding of the journals that small family business managers in the USA
are practicing strategies which are focused on extensive planning and
controlling thought that their businesses were successful (Bleistein, 2015).
However, these managers came to the realization that their main problem
was developing sound marketing strategies (Klettner, 2014). It was also
found that business owners coming from an environment of a small
business family were more successful as opposed to those without any
family business background. The article concludes that more research
ought to be done on small family businesses to develop successful
solutions to a successful application.

blind eye for quite some time. It has made scholars come to the realization
that even the small household businesses have an opportunity to grow. It
has stipulated how managerial strategies out to be employed to attain this

article
The primary aim of the article was determining what is international
strategy research and what is not.
Theory The journal has developed a good business strategy framework. It
advocates for first realizing what can be termed as international research
before making investment decisions or coming up with diversification
objectives. This framework is very crucial because it gives investors
knowledge and a stepping stone on what to consider before making foreign
investments. It makes them aware of what may affect them after venturing
into the global market (Sia, 2016). However, a major weakness of this
framework is that it ignores the domestic market which is a crucial
component. Much of the competition arises from the domestic market as
well as legal requirements. Ignoring this component is somewhat blurring
the future of market command of firms in the domestic market.
