Care for older population with mobility
Introduction:
With the growing number of older population in Australia, aged care has become
one of the crucial facilities o the health care sector which requires attention. In the older
adult community, the community nurse is working with the older population with
mobility issues which also contributed to the ill mental health of them because of the
situations they are experiencing and unable to perform the daily activities (Sorond et
al.,2015). The purpose of the paper is to provide a description of the community setting,
Health Promotion Nursing Intervention and Professional Nursing Organization and the
summary in the following paragraphs.
Community Setting
To promote the aged care and support the older population in the community of
Victoria, the community nurse is assigned to provide the faster recovery of the older
patient with the mobility issue in the older population in the community.
In the community, the population is the older adult of the community aged in-
between 55 to 72 with a severe mobility issue and unable to manage themselves alone
because their family lives away from them (Stenroth et al., 2015). The majority of the
mobility issue observed in this setting is because of the chronic illness they experienced
which is another contributor to their ill mental health.
The first service served by the community nurse is to assists the older adults to
perform the daily activities they are unable to perform such as bathing, cooking, dressing,

eating and toileting (Henderson et al., 2016). The second service is to engage them in the
spiritual activities at home to reduce the anxiety and emotional distress of the old adults
in the community. The third service provided by community nurse is to give a
motivational talk and sharing experiences to support the mental and physical wellbeing
for healthy aging (Kabir et al., 2016).
Health Promotion Nursing Intervention
To promote the wellbeing of the older population in the community, the
community nurse plays a huge role in health promotion intervention. As discussed by
Franke et al. (2019), community nurses are mostly involved in the health promotion
intervention because they are the frontline health professionals who are well aware of the
pain and health issues of the older population which help them to take the evidenced-
based initiatives for promoting better emotional and physical health.
In the current context, self-care is one health promotional nursing intervention
which can be applied by the community nurse. According to Franke et al. (2019), the
self-care is an effective strategy to provide the education to the older adults with the
mobility issues to perform daily activities with the help of activities of the daily living
framework. As a part of the self-care, it is required to provide the accommodation with
the ground floor, skid-proof tiles, and slippers (Henderson et al., 2016).
To implement this self-care intervention, the community nurse is required to
collaborate with the other members of the community, local government and the policy
makers to promote the wellbeing. Moreover, community members can be encouraged to
take initiatives to provide the best possible life to the older community.
