It discusses the principles of support, policy and practice related to their case and provides recommendations for future policy and practice. INTRODUCTION
There are various kinds of health and social care services that are required by older
people as their health and wellness starts degrading. Aged people require various kinds of
services and information so that they can take care of themselves as well as of their health, carry
out their domestic chores in a proper and effective manner. this assessment will lay emphasis
upon analysis of a case study of Mr. and Mrs. T in which evaluation of principles of support,
policy and practice related to the case study will also be done.
MAIN BODY
Overview of case stud
Mr. & Mrs. T are above 85 years old couple. Mr. T is suffering from progressive dementia
with various other chronic diseases. Both of them take care of each other but recently due to a
fall Mrs. T had to undergo hip operation and had to use a mobility frame. Due to this they need
information upon ways in which they can gain required information and support so that they can
manage their lives in a much better manner.
Support available in the current health & social care context for Mr. & Mrs. T
There are various kinds of support available for older people like Mr. & Mrs. T in terms
of health and social care. There are various kinds of health and social care organizations that can
provide support to Mr. & Mrs. T in many different ways.
Provision of information in terms of taking care of oneself independently: Many health and
social care organizations make themselves available for older people in terms of provision of
information and advices (Regan, 2016). Mr. & Mrs. T can ask for information and advice in
terms of living independently, ways in which they can enhance their overall health and
wellbeing, mobility services or equipment’s that can be used by them so that they can easily take
care of each other and live independently.
Support in terms of home care services: Many social care services provide home care service to
older people or people who have difficulty in carrying out their daily lives independently. Mr. &
Mrs. T can get help for carrying out their daily household maintenance like laundry etc. in which
she faces difficulty.
Support in terms of health care service, mobility and self-care: Mr. & Mrs. T can also get support
in terms of healthcare facility. They can be provided with healthcare support so that Mrs. T can
carry out her daily activities without using or least using mobility frame and Mr. T’s overall

health can be improved in a much better and appropriate manner (Glendinning, 2016). Not only
this, they can also be provided support so that their overall health and physical activeness can be
enhanced and improved. many social care organizations also provide these kinds of health care
services, mobility care for free of cost or provides support or help to them so that they can afford
care and support requited by them. Mr. & Mrs. T can also contact health and social care
organisations like Age UK so that they can find and arrange permanent source of social care.
Support in terms of government programs: There are various kinds of charitable government-
based organization who help in making developed government programs available to older
people so that they can remain active, take care of themselves and their loving one’s. there are
various kinds of government policies in which financial help in being provided to older people so
that they can live a healthy and independent life (Sussex and et. al., 2019). Many government
policies provide health care service to older people who are much more at risk of social isolation,
loneliness or are suffering from some serious chronic disease. Mr. and MRs. T can ask for
support from these government health and social care organization for enhancement of their
health condition like dementia condition of Mr. T, difficulty in walking without mobility frame
by Mrs. T.
Support in terms of training for independent living: there are many health and social care
organization provide training to older people as well so that they can accept their current
condition and adopt themselves accordingly so that they can carry out their daily routine task in
an easy manner. Mrs T requite this training so she can get use to her mobility frame and carry out
her daily task and can take care of her husband as well.
Support in terms of financial help: many non- profitable social care organizations work for older
people and provide them financial support or helps them in providing a source of income so that
they can take care of themselves in a much better and appropriate manner.
Overview of organization
Age UK is a charitable social care organization that provide support to older people. they
provide information and advice to older people as per their requirements, health and social care
facilities, wellbeing care to people so that they can live independently and take care of their daily
routine. They also provide mobility support as per the requirement of older people (Kalam,
2017). Other than this they also conduct research, do campaigns so that they can reach a greater
number of older people and can provide support to them.

Principles of support
Today demand of health and social care practises and service requirement especially by
aged people. It has become essential for organizations in this sector to focus upon provision of
these services to aged people who require these services. many non- profitable organizations are
also getting established and providing their services in this sector for needy people or people
who cannot take care of themselves (Iparraguirre, 2017). Social care practise officer working for
Age UK organization need to provide support to Mr. & Mrs. T in many different ways. they need
to take care of all kinds of principles of support, polices and practises applicable in to Mr. &
Mrs. T’s case for providing care to both of them. There are many principles of practises that are
applicable in case of to Mr. & Mrs. T. These principles help in ensuring that all the support
provided to Mr. & Mrs. T is safe and beneficial for both of them. These principles of support
guaranteed and provide health and social care support to people who require it. Main key
principles of support applicable in providing support to Mr. & Mrs. T are:
 Equality and diversity: It are first and the foremost principle of support which is applicable in
Mr. & Mrs. T’s case. As per this principle all the people who require health and social care
service are equal and these services should be provided to everyone who require it without
any kind of discrimination.
 Dignity of human worth: this principle says that each people should be treated with dignity
and required health and social care services should be provided to them in order to enhance
their overall health, as each and every human life is worth and important (Wallerstein and et.
al. eds., 2017).
 Sympathy: it is another important principle of support in which person who requires health
and social care support is provided with sympathy so that all of their suffering can be
reduced.
 Safety and privacy: It is another important principle of support which is applicable in Mr. &
Mrs. T’s case which says that all kinds of required health and safety services are provided to
needful person in such a manner that all kinds of safety measures are taken. Organizations
also need to ensure privacy of people to whom these services are being provided, their needs,
personal information etc. should be kept private.

 Honesty: All the required services should be provided to people by maintaining honesty and
being honest with them (Wing, Simon and Bello-Gomez, 2018). This can be done by
explaining advantages, disadvantages, benefits of the provided service etc.

Policies and practices play a vital role in provision of health and social care services to
people in a proper and appropriate manner. there are various kinds of v that are applicable and
related to case of Mr. and Mrs. T. polices and practises in health and social care helps in
covering all kinds of key issues that can impact overall lives of people. Polices and practises that
are related to case study of Mr. & Mrs. T are as follows:
 Consumer policy: health and social care organization are required to provide all kinds of
required service that can fulfil their needs and requirements in a proper and effective manner.
 National policy framework for integrated care of older people: this policy focuses upon
provision of required health and social care services in an integrated and improved manner so
that required support can be provided to them at home itself (Niolon, 2017).
 Each health and social care organization has their own procedure though which they provide
effective and required services to older people. many social care organizations have
developed their own policies though which they can provide an additional support to older
people so that additional support for independent living is not a burden upon them and they
can easily afford those services and enjoy their independent living.
 Aging well and health prevention policy of Age UK organization is another policy that
focuses upon addressing all kinds of health issues so that aged people can be prevented and
protected from it and its adverse effect upon it can be reduced.
Capability of organization in providing support for Mr. & Mrs. T
Age UK is a social care organization that can provide all kinds of required information
and services to Mr. & Mrs. T. they have partnership with many other health and social care
organization that helps in providing them with required service to older aged people. they also
have various kinds of volunteers who works for them in arranging charities, providing support to
aged people. Age UK can help Mr. & Mrs. T in providing all kinds of required information and
support though which they can overcome problems faced by them so that they can live their lives
independently.

Personal care and Domestic household chores: Age UK as a personal care team that provide all
kinds of friendly as well as professional help to Mr. & Mrs. T so that they can perform their daily
task easily like washing, cooking etc. But it is a paid service which is available for old age
people like Mr. & Mrs. T. They also have trained carers who can provide personal care to the
couple by deciding agreeing to visit them once or twice in a day and if Mrs. T wats 24*7 service
die to her mobility then she can also opt for it and pay accordingly. Age UK can also provide
them with personal alarm so that they can live their lives independently but if any accident
occurs or they need professional help them with just one button emergency services can be
provided to them.
Improve mobility: Age UK has a separate mobility department or section where they provide all
kinds of required service to old age people as per their need’s ad requirement (Morton and
Myers, 2016). They can provide Mrs. T with all kinds of required information though which she
can easily get use to her mobility frame. They also have care plans that are specifically desired as
per the need and requirement of the person in which professional help, assistance, required
mobility equipment’s etc. are included and accordingly care is provided to them. They have
trained workers who works in making older people who are above 80 so that they can get use to
mobility help and carry on to live independently and take care of their responsibilities (Shelton,
Cooper and Stirman, 2018). They also provide different kinds of mobility equipment’ and install
them as per their needs. Age UK can develop a mobility care plan though which she can easily
carry on her daily activities, take care of her husband as well.
Living independently: Age UK can also provide required information to Mrs. T about products
of living items that can be used by her for living independently like stairlift can be used by Mrs.
T so that her mobility frame does not become a barrier for her in living independently. A telecare
and telehealth system can be installed so that Mr. T’s overall health condition can be monitored
continuously. This will help him in living independently as well as managing his serious health
conditions such as progressive dementia and other chronic conditions. This system can also be
used for Mrs. T as she recently has a hip operation and cannot walk without mobility frame.
Recommendations for future policy and practice
Here are few recommendations that can be used for development of future policies and
practises for enhancing health and social care service provision to old age people. Some of the
main recommendations are as follows:

 Health and social care organizations should provide separate training to their staff members,
employees, practitioners, volunteers etc. so that they can enhance their overall knowledge
and skills and can take care of complex needs of older people in an appropriate manner
(Zietlow and et. al, 2018).
 Health and social care organizations should integrate evidence within their service provision
for older people. this will help them in enhancing overall quality of products and services
provided by them for wellbeing and good health of older people.
 Non- profitable health and social care organization should work upon development of new
care models so that are specifically based upon care of older people and ways to enhance
livelihood of older people.
 Government should focus upon development of new policies that specifically focuses upon
practical help required by older people that are affordable by them so that they can overcome
any kind of health crises faced by them in a much better and affordable manner.
CONCLUSION
From the above assessment it has been summarized that there are various kinds of health
and social care organizations that provide required information, health and social care services to
older people as per their health and wellness requirements and needs. It has been analysed that
there are various kinds of principles of service in heath and social care sector that are required to
be followed by employees or workers working in this industry and providing required and
needful services to people. Government has also developed various kinds of policies so that
proper wellness and healthcare services can be provided to older people in a proper and
appropriate manner. many organizations provide free of cost health ad social care services to
such people and also provide them with required information so that they can live their lives
independently. It has also been analysed that older people require much more help and support
for living independently and for this they require additional services and equipment’s though
which they can live in a proper manner due to this increasing needs many organizations in this
sector are focusing upon enhancing their policies and practises for provision of effective
services.
