Brief Overview of the Case
The Case is based on the Human resource expenses of the Charlotte Health
System. The costs of the organization are under a strict scrutiny and thereby with respect
to this, the Human resource department costs also underwent a considerable check (Noe
et al. 2017). The report will focus on the justification of the higher costs of the Human
resource department for the overall welfare of the organization and also throw light on
the manner in which the firm can economically benefit from these operations at large.
Answer to Question 1
As the organization decided upon whether they can being about any improvement
in the overall operations of the firm or not, it was considerably decide that, for the firm to
be successful in the long run, the human resource department of the firm also needs to
undergo a considerable improvement. Once the improvement undertakes, the overall
future costs of the organization could decrease considerably. In relation to this, an
amount of $680000 was reflected with respect to the extra costs which were incurred by
the organization, went under scrutiny-zation and Williams was asked to provide a
justification with respect to the same. In this case, it was understood that, according to
Williams, there had been a considerably large number of changes which the organization
had made with respect to the Human resource department and these comprised of various
changes like the development of the career ladders for the different employees which was
directly related to the long term retention of the different employees as present. In
addition to this, various training programs were also organized for the different

employees so as to improve the overall skills which they possess and additionally to
ensure that, the management competence could be improved considerably (Albrecht et
al., 2015). William also claimed that, they also engaged in the development of model
staffing ratios which would lead to a reduction in the staff burnout and stress. The
performance reviews also form a considerable part of the firm and with respect to this,
they developed a continuous feedback and employee review system which would then
assist them to engage in long term sustenance of the different operations as present.
Moreover, initiatives to reduce the absenteeism in an organization, to increase the
incentive programs and to initiate an employee survey to improve the overall operations
of the firm were undertaken.
It is believed that the different employees form the main strength of the
organization and if the organization wants to gain a competitive advantage in the long
run, then with respect to this, they would be required to engage in considerable
investment for the firm (Brewster et al., 2016). Hence, Williams undertook the realization
of this and thereby engage in various activities like the performance reviews, surveys and
the trainings which would have better outcomes for the firm in the long run. Hence, the
calculated benefits of reduced turnover and related increased costs are thereby associated
with the following:
