Child Attachment Issues: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatment_1

Child Attachment disorders 1
Introduction
The term ‘child psychology’ refers to the understanding of the processes of child’s
psychological behaviour. A child’s behaviour depends on the environment the child is grown,
parenting plays a major role in the physical and mental development of a child aged between
2-6 years. As per the historical views, child is not capable of understanding the social
relations and the morality, the child gets the sense of attachment only with the primary
caretaker or the mother of the child. During this period, the child adapts quickly to whatever
is been taught to the child. He/she learns to connect with people living around some children
do not feel comfortable in the absence of their parents or the person who is the primary care
taker of the child. Due to excessive attachment, with the parent or the primary care taker most
of the children refuse to stay in the absence of their parents at all. These issues end up
transforming into mental disorders or the disabilities which can lead to adverse effects on the
living conditions of the child. One of the common example of the same is cultural psychology
due to which the child refuses to get along with the people around him or it can be the other
side also where the child wants to be close with people other than parents. A case is also
mentioned to make people aware of the disabilities occurring because of the attachment
issues. The main causes are also discussed with the primary symptoms proving the arrival of
the disorder various steps can be taken before the worsening of the condition. Various
theories related to the attachment issues that provide the evidence for the same also showing
results that can be cured with proper care and diligence in the growing age of the child as
he/she learns everything too fast and grabs the actions of the adults which can damage either
their learning or the mental strength all children are not able cope up with the environment in
the same manner (Jaffee, 2019).

Child Attachment disorders 2
Attachment Issues of children:
Children can have two types of attachment disorders these are covered below, based on the
five Psychology journals:
1. ‘Inhibited Symptoms of Reactive attachment disorder’ by Bosmans’(2019) were undertaken
from “Attachment and human development”.
2. ‘Reactive Attachment disorder in maltreated young children in foster care’ by D Young, M
Bruce (2019) from “Attachment & human development”.
3. ‘Disinhibited Social Engagement behaviour’ by FY Scheper (2019) from “Journal of Child”.
4. ‘Treatment of Reactive Attachment disorder’ by JW Drisko (2019) from “Child and
Adolescent Work Journal”.
5. ‘Parenting and the development of children with autism spectrum disorder’ by JS Crowell
(2019) from “Comprehensive Psychiatry”.
As per the journals mentioned it is summarised that the attachment issues related to child
psychology are categorised in the following heads and also the disorders are been described
through the case mentioned below -
Reactive attachment disorders
The Reactive attachment disorder can have varied signs. One of these is physical affection.
Children with reactive disorders consider the physical affection as a threat to them, less
Reactive to the physical touch and instead of showing the positive reactions they consider it
as something harmful (Williams, 2014).
For example- Anger related issues: This is also a sign of reactive disorders as the child is
most of the time grumpy and angry without any particular or specific reason in real.

Immature moral sense: The signs of reactive disorders also have immature moral sense as the
child does not show any sign of guilt or regret after behaving in a bad manner.
Disinhibited social engagement disorder
This type of behaviour sometime leads to being too friendly to the strangers, for example-
hugging them, not checking with their parents while being with them, allowing the strangers
to pick them up and feed them (Hesse, 2018).
Theory of attachment
The concept of theory of attachment signifies that the attachment is the kind of pillar in the
personal development of any child. The ability to form up the attachment with the other
person consequently, provides the security and the confidence to take risks, grow and flourish
their personalities this especially is in regard with the attachment of the child with the parents
as the child feels backed up the people is attached to, in the situation of crisis and that believe
on the attachment gives child the ability to develop the personality (Fonagy, 2018).
For example- certain common examples of child psychology related to the concern are-
cultural psychology, child development, educational psychology.
John Bowlby Theory of attachment
This theory is based on the observational psychology which shows that the child who is given
proper care and have sense of attachment with their parents or primary care takers seemed to
have more quality time spent on interacting socially and observing the environment and tend
to develop more self -confidence when given proper care and support to develop their minds
properly. John was the first psychologist to establish the reasons that child development
depended heavily upon the level of attachment of the child with his/her parents (Bowlby,
2018) for example- Excessive attachment of child with the mother.
