INTRODUCTION
Civil aviation is majorly consisting of two major categories of flying i.e. non-military
aviation and both private and commercial based on the purpose. Furthermore, civil aviation can
be classified into two more sub-division scheduled air transport in which passengers and cargo
flights are included. Whereas other one is general aviation which consist of civil, private or
commercial flights (Wiegmann and Shappell, 2017). Present report is based on history of civil
aviation since this was discovered. Apart from this, it will include some milestones that were
achieved by aviation department in terms of aircrafts, services and facilities, conferences
conducted for the battement of this sector. Along with this, some of the key legislations and laws
are included in this assignment so that it can be understood in a better manner. Lastly, some of
the factors that put an impact on aviation is mentioned in this report
AVIATION:
In simple terms aviation is related to the activities which are basically surrounded by
mechanical flight and aircraft industry. Aviation has its history since 18th century followed by the
concept of hot air balloon. In terms of advancement aviation technology it started in 1986 by
Otto Lilienthal who discovered controlled gliding flying. Later in the early 1900s, a significant
movement took place when first powered airplane was manufactured by Wright Brothers. Since,
then industry of aviation is making drastic change and incorporating technological revolution.
Therefore aviation has made transportation system easier. People can now travel to different
place any time (Helmreich and Merritt, 2017).
AIRLINE:
An Airline is determined as a company which provides transport facilities in order to
travel from one place to another. For this, airline companies utilize aircrafts and this can be in the
form of partnership or alliances under code-share agreements. Airlines can vary in sizes lit can
be small for domestic travel or it can be big or full service international airlines. Therefore,
services provided by airlines can be classified into categories like intercontinental, domestic,
regional and international and charge may be applied accordingly. World’s first airline was

DELAG, Deutsche Luftschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft I which was founded in the year around
1909, November 16.
AIRPORT:
It is an aerodrome that mostly provides extended facilities generally for air transport
which is done commercially. It consist of facilities like stores and maintenance aircraft and
control tower. In addition to this, airport also has a open space known as runway and it is used
for the purpose of plane to take off. Therefore, it can be said that different airports may have
various additional services for example; an international airport can have better custom and
passport control system and these airports have comparatively large building typologies varies
within 15 of the top 50 buildings including floor areas like airport terminal.
Civil Aviation History
History of Civil aviation can be traced back in the dates or in the stories of Icarus in
Greek mythology (Maurino and et. al., 2017). Concept of modern age of aviation was developed
with through the ideas of hot air balloon which was designed by Montgolfier brother. In the year
around 1783 and during that time as a traveller it carried a sheep, a duck and than gradually
human passenger.
The First powered Airships: In terms of aviation, how can French be left behind as
military officers and inventor Charles Renard and Aurthur C. Kerbs built their first powered
airship which was usually controlled by using a battery-powered electric motor along with a
wooden propeller (10 Greatest Moments in Flight, 2018).
The Wright Brother and the First flight: Both Wright Brothers (Orville and Wilbur
Wright) pineered the working standards for current airplane by flying their Wright Flyer for only
12 seconds amid a first test at Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. The trip of their delicate innovation
depended upon science and designing thoughts that in the long run brought forth aeronautical
fighting, overall air travel and space investigation.
World’s First commercial airlines: The first flight was scheduled between St.
Petersburg and Tampa. Fla, which was covered in just 20 minutes and as compared to
steamships, trains or cars this commercial airline was far shorter. The St. Petersburg-Tampa

Airboat Line proclaimed another route for everybody to fly notwithstanding enduring only four
months after its Jan. 1, 1914, make a big appearance.
Charles Lindbergh & the First Solo Transatlantic Flight: This was the first
transatlantic trip in 34 hours which had changed world's perspectives on the potential outcomes
of air travel. This was a single engine aircraft which was used for controlling this flight
Milestones:
1903: In this year Wright brother first made world’s powered flight which flew for 12
seconds.
1916: In this year, in Santiago of Chile, first conference of Pan America Aeronautics was
held and it was recommended that it is necessary that country unify their aerial legislations so
that new and effective strategies such as an international air code can be formulated (Williams,
2016).
1919: A French company The Farman Company flew their first flight between Paris and
London and in this twelve passengers were travelling and this aircraft was a converted military
converted aircraft.
1925: In Paris, first International Conference of Private Air Law was formulated in order
to examine which airlines can take the responsibility of immense work of codifying private air
law.
1928: Havana Convention was signed in which along with United States twenty other
states were included. This convention was based on commercial aircrafts and basic principles &
rules related to aerial traffic.
2001: In Cape Town, South Africa, a diplomatic conference was held under which new
convention was adopted and it was specifically for Aircraft equipments.
2010: This was another conference held in Beijing so as to adopt two international air
laws Convention on the suppression of Unlawful Acts Relating to International Civil Aviation
and the other one was Protocol supplementary to the Convention for the Suppression of
Unlawful Seizure of Aircrafts.

Key Legislations and regulations:
Aviation is related to the air transport which revolves around the certain activities
belongs to aircraft industry. It includes different types of air bodies like aircraft, airships, flights
and balloons. Civil aviation is considered as one among major two type of air industry. This
aviation type reflects those air bodies which are not related to military aviation (Wong and
Brooks, 2015). Civil Aviation includes certain private air crafts, planes as well as commercial
jets too. There are the certain legislation and regulation which are formulated by government in
order to protect the same industry. And these are described as below:
Civil Aviation act 2012: This act basically covers the provision of dominant airport and
it’s operators. It covers overall services which are offered to the customers at the airport. It
includes safety and security of the passengers, flight accommodation; it also involves provision
which have authority of making future membership, the provision which secures information
about the aviation, regulatory bodies, etc. This act is helpful for the airline industry in
influencing interest of customers towards the services of the company for the long period of
time. It is beneficial in retaining them for longer duration with effective services. As a result, this
is helpful in building positive relationship with the customers.
The Civil Aviation Authority Regulations 2004 : This Civil Aviation act gives
preference to the health and safety regulations of employees. According to this act, it can be said
that this act ensures the each every employee of this aviation, that is crew members, flight
attendant, air hostesses etc. apart from lower ground workers and passengers of airport perform
their specific job roles within the given time frame. Along with this, employer also assures
employees that they will be secured in the working hours and other time whenever they are
present in the premises (Wiegmann and Shappell, 2017).
As per the above stated laws it can be said Civil Aviation covers the broad part of the
airline industry. Thus, these are required by this sector to ensure effective working practices of
the industry. With the help of legislation and regulation, it is better for the employer to persuade
interest of its employees towards the related firm for period of time. This legislation also protects
employees while performing their official activities. Along with this, it also covers many of the
safety laws which contribute in safety and security within the working premises.

Factors that have impacted Aviation history
According to the current situation aviation has come up as a great source for individuals
as travelling from one place to another has become easier. Now people can go to places by just
booking a flight according to their needs and this is possible because of different airlines
available in the market area. There are some of the factors that have an impact on the history of
aviation and these are explained below for better understanding:
Culture of aviation: since the history of aviation culture of dealing with customers as
per situations have changed. As in earlier time travelling was only done for the purpose of
business but now people prefer travelling just to enjoy their holidays with their closed ones
(Maurino and et. al., 2017).
Environmental factor on aviation: This concept came into being because of the aircraft
engines emitting heat, noise and harmful gases. In spite of making aircraft that are fuel efficient
and less polluting air travel industry has contributed in the increase of total pollution. According
to a study from 1992 to 2005 greenhouse gas emission has increased to 87 percent. This is one of
the reasons of change in climatic condition around the world.
CONCLUSION
From the above report it has been concluded that nowadays aviation in lives of human are
playing a crucial role. Now people can travel from one place to another in quick time without
any kind of problem. With the change in course of time entire scenario of aviation has changed,
earlier there use to be heavy aircrafts but currently aircrafts are light in weight and this so as to
take heavy duty items or passengers those are travelling to different parts. With the help of this
assignment history of civil aviation can be evaluated such as how aviation has changed. Other
than this, milestones achieved by aviation are included like from developing first aircraft to
modified aviation system. Apart from this, Key legislations were also included such ass acts
which are required to be followed.
