The assignment provided involves analyzing a smart car parking system, which is a complex system that requires careful management to ensure efficient use of space and minimize congestion. The system consists of large structures known as car parking plots, which can be damaged by calamities like earthquakes or floods. Despite regular maintenance, there is an equal probability that the system might fail at any time. Other risks include the possibility of not finding suitable lands for expansion and a decrease in customer interest due to poor economic conditions. Problem Statement
Considering the present date scenario, it can be said that the streets are more populated
with vehicles rather than human beings. The global economic upliftment has increased peoples
spending in vehicles. In the recent times people have to struggle to find an appropriate place for
parking their vehicles (Polycarpou, Lambrinos & Protopapadakis, 2013). Considering these
factor, an efficient, simpler and less time consuming car parking models are of utmost need. The
case study on Collin’s car parking system presents a modernized solution to the present problems
of car parking. The Collins’ come up with much simpler solution for their customers. It is seen
from the case study that the Collin’s car parking came up with different schemes for their
different categories of customers. In the present date, the office goers as well as the students are
in huge rush in the busy hours of the day (Zheng et al., 2014). Keeping in mind this problem,
Collins’ came up with different service system with their regular customers and different
services for normal customers. The Collins’ also kept in mind that the services should be faster
considering the huge rush in the peak hours.
Easy access and easy exit, simpler mode of payment, maintaining customer satisfaction are some
of the factors that the Collins’ considered while designing this car parking model. Other
problems are also prevalent such as unavailability of car parking plots in the peak hours of day,
also it was seen that people found it difficult to park their cars in every hook and corner as it may
hamper their vehicle’s parts (Alfatihi, Chihab & Alj, 2013). If these problems are to address
these problems a modernized car parking system or model is necessary. In order to develop a
smart city a modernized car parking solution is essential.

System capabilities
It can be observed from the Collin’s car parking case study that their car parking model
offers simpler services compared to that of the other car parking models existing in the market.
The regular customers of the Collins’ can book their ticket beforehand for weeks or months, this
in turn will ensure availability of their car parking spots at any time. The normal customers can
pay whenever they wish to park their cars. This process of the Collin’s car parking service will
enhance their number of fixed customers as it will provide them with fixed car parking spots at
any time of their booking period. Apart from this, the Collins’ allow different modes of payment
as per their customer’s choice.
The Collin’s car parking business offers much simpler access such as the fixed customers are just
require to scan their ticket in the specified slot of the installed control pillar. In the process, the
ticket gets detected and the customer is given the access of the car park. The exit process of the
fixed customers is also a less-time consuming process. The fixed customers are not required to
visit the pay station while leaving the car park. The normal customers have to follow the regular
process of ticket booking and ticket checking. The customer have to press the installed control
button which will generate their respective ticket also the normal customers are required to visit
the pay station every time they took exit from the car park.
In order to ensure customer satisfaction the Collins’ also ensure strict security measure for
safeguarding their customer’s assets. The security guards regularly visit the car park. The Collins
installed a system that would enable to monitor the number of visits as well as the tenure of visits
of the security personals (Kotb et al. 2016).

Considering the customer requirements the Collins’ tends to expand its services to mobile as well
as the web applications which would enable the customers to check the availability of the car
parking spaces online (Kaur & Singh, 2013). This would be more helpful for their normal
customers. Such applications will also enhance the booking system. In such cases, the customer
could book his/her ticket from the mobile applications rather than coming to the car parks every
time to buy the tickets.
System benefits
The Collin’s car parking business model serves with the following benefits:
 The system installed in the Collin’s car parking is checked at the regular basis ensuring
that the system do not fails (Hamre & Buehler, 2014). Other than this the system is much
simpler to operate. In other words, the operations of the system are easy to understand.
 The advance ticket booking schemes for their regular customers is also very beneficial
for their customers as well as for their business.
 Stringent security considering the fact of regular monitoring the security status of the car
parks.
 The Collin’s car parking business if extended to online portals will ensure simpler and
easier access to their customers.

Keeping in mind the Collin’s car park’s case study, it can be said that the essential
requirements of the business are a management and an administrative team who would monitor
and regulate the business proceedings of the Collins’, a proper infrastructure is mandatory for
setting up the Collin’s car parking business, sufficient land contracts for setting up the car
parking spots, a proper architecture of the car park such that it can accommodate maximum
number of cars in much shorter space (Ang et al., 2013). Other resources include a business
developer who would bring innovation in the business operations of the Collins’, system

developers who would regularly check the systems which are installed in the car parks (Guo,
2013).
Feasibility of the Collin’s car parking model
Although the Collins’ have modernized the Car parking system with much innovation but
the Collin’s car parking business is also exposed to potential amount of threats. Natural
calamities are one of them. The car parking plots are huge structures, Calamities like earthquake
or flood might damage the parked vehicle or can cause destruction of the car park. Although the
Collins’ maintains its installed system in regular basis but their lies equal probability that the
system might fail at any time (Barone et al., 2013). One of the potential risks is that the Collins’
might not find lands in the required places where they wish to expand their business. Other than
this, the normal customers might lose interest in the Collins’ service as they do not provide much
benefit to their normal customers. High land prices and poor economic condition are also some
of the risks that the Collins’ might face. Poor economy will decrease the peoples spending in
buying vehicles, in turn reducing the number of vehicles in the roads (Karbab et al., 2015).
