Introduction
Globalization has made intercultural communication unescapable. In the modern business,
community and classroom environment communicating with people from different cultures has
become the order of the day. Therefore, the art of understanding the manner to communicate
with individuals from different cultures is a workplace skills that has to be emphasized.
Intercultural communication is the ability to interact with dissimilar cultures and social groups
by sharing information (Gut, Wilczewski and Gorbaniuk, 2017). Intercultural communication
entails interacting with people from dissimilar social, religious, educational and ethical
backgrounds, hence it demands that one should understand the difference in how individuals
from different cultures communicate, act and recognize the world around them. Indeed, culture
has a comprehensive effect on the way individuals conduct business. Cross-cultural
communication skills are essential for success both local and international contexts.
For example, in a case study: “Language Barriers in Cross-cultural Communication” involving
Israel and American company. English is regarded as the language to speak when talking across
cultures. In Israel, English was introduced in the workplace with the global technological boom.
Therefore, many Israeli corporation use English in their place of work, although it is situated in a
Hebrew-speaking region since most of their businesses are transacted in the international market.
Even though, most Israelis’ have a relatively good command of English, it is still their second
language. Deficiency of cultural sensitivity in business operations could upset prospects and
existing clients, and estrange employees working in other location across the world. However,
lack of cultural sensitivity pose a negative impact on the organization bottom line (Vassou,
Zopiatis, and Theocharous, 2017, p. 23). This paper will discuss the steps that should be taken to
improve intercultural communication skills that will help to improve personal marketability.

Intercultural communication removes cultural barriers
Research has found that intercultural communication teaching is extremely significant to
breaking the silos of cultural barricades. Subsequently, intercultural communication aids to build
awareness of cultural norms and support communication and self-awareness skills. Accordingly,
this form of communication is significant for business transactions because it allows persons to
adapt their skill set to achieve the needs of intercultural collaborations which is a major value to
business internationally (Shah and Barker, 2017, p. 220). Therefore, international affairs
education programs have been introduce in higher learning institutions to help eliminate cultural
walls by training analysis as well as elucidation for cross-cultural connections at different levels.
Indeed, primary aspects like things that are regarded as suitable private space and meeting
decorum play a major role on business interaction outcomes.
Improve national skills
Training intercultural communication improves people capability to negotiate, hence it expands
the business marketability amongst worldwide workforce. Every culture has their set of rules in
regard to negotiation. As a result, Martin (2015, p.6) recommends that cross-cultural framework
integration for individuals that work with multiple culture in the daily endeavors. In addition to
that Ting-Toomey and Dorjee (2018) assert that to expand the marketability as well as value of a
company it is relevant that they accept the mindset of a person who understand how to navigate
the industry and knows dissimilar worldviews.
Prominence of intercultural communication to different career fields
Education is dependent on operative communication between learners and the teacher. In this
sense, cross-cultural communication has become a key milestone since schools are currently
