Answer 1
Factors that will facilitate effective communication include both verbal and non-
verbal communication skills. For Ashley and her family members, execution non-verbal
communication skills will be more effective as it will help in the development of trust and the
level of respect with the healthcare professionals, which is lack at present. Another factor
include use of a culturally competitive nurse who is form Nepalese background of south-
Asian background. Presence of culturally competent nurse from identical cultural background
will help to ensure trust development (Norouzinia et al., 2016)
Factor that will inhibit effective communication is language, Ashley and her family
(paternal) is a Nepalese and English is her second language. Thus, she might experiences
difficulty in understudying certain terminologies or sentences drafted in professional English
and at the same time might experience difficult in expressing her thoughts and thus creating a
barrier in executing effective communication. Second factor include the distance age of Amir.
Amir is a 7-year old boy thus professional approach of executing effective communication
skills is not applicable in this case. Use of gestures, props and rhymes can be used for the
execution of communication ((Norouzinia et al., 2016).
Answer 2
Active listening for is an important non-verbal perspective of communication skills
that helps in the developing of the therapeutic relationships with the client and thereby
helping to increase the level of trust. Active listening is mainly executed by the use of the
positive body language and attentive listening with the help of maintaining proper eye contact
with the client (Giger, 2016). In case of Amir, active listening will help to develop friendly
relationship with the child and thus enabling the child to explain his share of pain and

discomfort due to ear infection. This in turn will help to understand the severity of the
problem along with identifying the clinical priority. Active listening in case of Ashley will
help her to establish a level of trust and respect towards the healthcare professionals and thus
helping her to provide consent to admit her ward to the hospital.
Answer 3
Any patient or their family members who whose first language is not English might
require assistance from an interpreter. In case of Ashley and her family member, it is
important to assess whether they can fully understand and communication in English for
explaining health care situation. Just because they can communicate their everyday activities
in English, it is unfair to assume that they have adequate proficiency in English language to
explain the medical condition. Executing effective communication with Ashley and her
family member will help in understanding their English proficiency and thereby helping to
understand they need of interpreter (Eggenberger & Sanders, 2016).

It is the duty of the nursing professional to execute the professional code of conduct in
a responsible manner. Furthermore, it also entails within scope of the practice of the nurses to
find themselves accountable for any kind of fault in their practice that is casting a negative
impact overall health and well-being of the patients. In this case, Simon practice has violated
the professional code of conduct of the nurses. According to the standard 1 of Nursing and
Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) (2018), it is the duty of the nursing professional to
conduct mandatory reporting and to remain alert for the patients who are at risk of physical
harm. However, Simon failed to report that her course of action during transferring
hemiparapelegic patient from bed to chair had lead to the development of scrape marks over
patient's leg. Receiving warning for violating professional code of conduct can be categorized

as a form of feedback for practice improvement. However, posting the entire grudge in social
media sites has reflected that Simon has failed to take RN's feedback positively and thereby
highlighting the she is ignoring his accountability and responsibility. Simon also lacks
responsibility, as she wants her patient to seek help whether taking proactive initiatives and
this has again violated the standard 4 (professional boundaries).

According to the standard 1 of NMBA (2018), it is the duty of the nursing
professional to create a scope for continuous professional development. Vermeir et al. (2015)
stated that feedback is one of the essential component in the nursing professional. In order to
bring a change in the clinical practice both positive and negative feedbacks must be given in
order to promote supportive environment for professional development. In this case RN has
given a feedback in order to address Simon’s gap in practice but Simon failed to utilize the
feedback for professional development (Vermeir et al. 2015).

Poor performance of THE interpersonal skills, manual handling incompetence and
inconsistency of taking patient observations decreases the overall health-related outcomes of
the patient and thus hampering overall health and well-being. Missen et al. (2016) stated that
decrease in the health and well-being of the patient due to poor nursing outcome decrease the
level of trust of the patients over the nursing professionals. In such cases, the patients are less
likely to share their complications with the nurses. Poor performance of interpersonal skills
hamper the process of team building and co-oporative working among the nursing
professionals. This negatively within the work envrionment generated due to lack and trrust
and respect towards the collegueas further hamper the overall quality of care (White et al.,
2016).
