Introduction
Communications play a crucial role in communicating with each other in this complex
and diverse business world, either in organisational workplace settings or in digital settings
(Bell and Kozlowski, 2015). The importance of effective communication for organisational
growth cannot be denied (Kalla, 2016). This paper seeks to emphasise the value of
communication and chooses one media article and one journal article for this reason. It also
aims to shed some light on certain communication barriers and to list down some gateways
to counter those barriers. Ultimately, this paper seeks to establish a discussion by applying
certain communication principles and ideas to selected media articles and journal articles.
Media Article
Leading your company gets easier—this one skill can help you through the crisis
Summary of a selected media article
The chosen media article emphasises the powerful impact of written word
communication and offers some valuable tips for effective communication. The effective
written word communication is capable of providing critical information, linking people within
an organisation, and promoting a sense of community during difficult times. When sending
any message, a leader must make it very clear that the message includes only the most
important information to save team members’ time and frustration, because they are possibly
already inundated with both personal and professional messages. Communication has a
tremendous impact on cultivating relationships between team members, and leadership
messages often affect the relationship that each team member has with the organisation as
a whole. It is particularly relevant and beneficial for businesses with remote offices and team
members. Through keeping the organisational goals in mind and conversing in a clear,
understandable, and considerate manner on remote working calls, meetings and chats can
help boost a clear communication (Fast Company, 2020). Thus, the article concludes that
right now, in an unprecedented and sometimes scary period, the ability to maintain
communication when working from a distance is more critical than ever. The written word is
an influential ally when it comes to linking the organisational team and the broader
community. Business leaders should lead the communication in cultivating relations, while
companies as a whole must aim to communicate thoughtfully, consciously, and effectively.
Besides this, the more one focuses on the methods and style of communication, the more
they will figure out new ways to progress.

Communication Competence, Leadership Behaviors, and Employee Outcomes in
Supervisor-Employee Relationships
Summary of the selected journal article
The present journal article aims to investigate how supervisors participate in
communication competence and leadership behaviours and how these two factors contribute
to the outcomes of the employee. Competence in communication requires communication
efficiency, which is generally composed of characteristics of effectiveness and
appropriateness. Communication skills may be especially relevant in cases where there is
conflict or conflicting goals. Communication competence is found to be closely linked to
employee satisfaction. On the other hand, leadership refers to a mechanism by which an
individual controls a group of individuals in order to accomplish a shared goal. Leadership
behaviours have a major impact on how workers feel competitive, inspired, energised, and
dedicated to their work. It has been found that autocratic, authoritarian, and dictatorial
practices of leadership are extremely ineffectual. Nonetheless, the most successful types of
leadership are considered to be a blend of task and interpersonal relations-leadership
communication behaviours. Such two types of leadership are referred to as Team
Management as it places a heavy focus on both tasks and interpersonal relationships, and
this teamwork style of leadership has been associated with improved revenue, performance,
and communication flow between leaders and followers. In addition, work motivation,
satisfaction, and organisational commitment are found to be three significant outcomes for
workers that are found to be closely related to communication skills and leadership
behaviours (Mikkelson et al., 2015). Thus, the article concludes that it is advantageous and
