Assessment Criteria:
1.1 Describe settings which a community interpreter may operate in.
Choose 3 different settings (from Education, Health, Housing, Benefits or Social Services). Describe
each of your chosen settings and the community interpreter's role in detail. In each setting
think about:
 What is the main service / setting (e.g. Health, Education, Housing, etc.)? Who is the Service Provider? (What is his/her job role?) What is the purpose of the meeting / appointment? What does the client need and want from
the Service Provider?
 What is the background of the Client (e.g. nationality, language, age, gender)? What does
the client want and need from the Service Provider? What is the Community Interpreter's role in this setting and why is it important?

Setting 1
Benefits
The major service of this sector is related to assuring benefit to the public. It has
been considered as the major part for the benefit sector the major advantages is
needed to be assured to public. It has been considered as the fourth sector of
economy that helps in providing benefit to public. Amnesty International UK is a
major service provider which is an Non-profit and governmental agency in the
country. The major purpose of meeting is aligned within promoting full-filling
social and environmental objectives. For benefits sector, the wide range in
context of the social and the environmental perspective has been determined as
the primary objectives. The purpose of this sector is entitled with the social
purpose and the earned income whereas the secondary purpose mainly
involves the inclusion of ownership, fair compensation, reasonable returns,
social and environmental responsibility, transparency and the protected assets.
The major client of this sector is public who seeks for fair benefit from service
provider in society. The client might have the nationality tag or may migrant from
other place. It includes both male and female gender who are among the age of
20-50. The client mainly wants their rights to be enjoyed in reaction of
experiencing fair treatment that can assure numerous benefits to the client. It is
the accountability of major services provider of benefit sector that they must
assure focus over performing major element that provides fair and safe
environment to the public. Also, the discrimination that is being done with the
people who are from outside nation has been reduced by the service provider.
In this context, the major role of community interpreter is to deliver the message
about the benefits that are the right of public. The main role is to transfer the
message among those persons who speaks different language. Thus, in this
manner community interpreter performs the major role in providing the benefits
to all people of society whether they are from nation or not.

Setting 2
Education
The major service provider from this sector are teacher, schools, colleges and
primary education. The purpose of team meeting is sharing information
efficiently to supply scope for discussion around what is being shared.Grimsby

actions. Specifically, in this case the meetings are held for attendance and

consists of 4 to 16 for primary students, for secondary as well sr. secondary it
requires 17 to 18. Thus, above this age are for colleges. The primary and
secondary students require the interpreter and guardian.
The community interpreter develops the better relation or connections among
students and school. It can be through what they are dealing with and being
able to communicate about their problems with teachers. Without clear
communications the problems will left unaware and untouched. Likely with
parents, building communication in which child feels safe and understanding
give access to parent to trust school. It would launch three-way connection
among student, school and parent. Interpretation is very beneficial and further it
will become necessity as many of international student’s recruit in public school
and university across the country. It is aligned with both parties and major role is
to interpret word to word and no information would be provided to parent child or
school staff. It is essential for community mediator to understand about the
culture background of students and knowledge about UK as well as foreign
education system. Community support in enhancing the attendance and
enrollment of client in workplace with motivation. Providing physical facilities
helps in buildings, teacher and teaching aids as well as other elements for
improved education for community school.
Setting 3
social service
Social service is consist of services and facilities like public educations,
infrastructure, welfare, social work, food banks, universal health care etc.
There are range of public services intended to provide help and assistance to
specific groups that commonly involves disadvantaged.
British association of social worker is one of the most popular institution in the
UK having a significant market share in the industry. The major social service
provider are the non -profit group who have the responsibility of serving and
paying attention towards needs of children as well as families. Also, poor and
homeless, veterans, immigrants etc.
The main purpose of meeting with clients is to fulfill their need and provide them
support in necessitate ways. The client requires support in several stages
where social worker interact with them in variety of ways. They support client to
deal with day to day problems and locating their social service and other
required resources.

The clients of social service providers are poor and homeless, immigrants and
people dealing with mental issue and other disorders. To them the services are
provided for creating the better outcome in their living. The age group of client is
consisted of children, youth and families as well. Client history is relevant with
background source which is helpful for determining what actions to be taken
according to the client requirements.
Social workers work on continuous basis with individuals, groups and families in
which there is no shared language. Similarly, they are required to listen, observe
and communicate in effective way wit service users. The effective ways of
communication lies at core of successful social work intervention whereas
interpreting and translation service are potential to facilitate communication and
securing people with accessible to their rights. The significance of community
interpreter work as making commitment and providing the convenient
information as well as suitable communication support. Overall, it would be
helpful for fostering better understanding by communication among client and
service providers.

Task 1- Communication enhancement
Enhancing communication among students and teacher is one of the major task that has been
done by community interpreter. Many students hesitate while sharing their thoughts from
teacher that might results in unclear doubts in students. Also, language barrier influences the
communication pattern in teacher and students. Thus, communication has been promoted by
community interpreter within transmitting message.
Task 2- Self advocacy
In high school self-advocacy of students has been promoted by community interpreter. In high
school, students are highly confused about their career and things that must be done by them.
Also, many students face depression and anxiety due to the pressure of education. In such
situation community interpreter encourage the students and discuss about their issues. As a
result, confidence of the students has been increased.
Task 3- Community interpreter for learner
Students with special needs in school has been supported by community interpreter. Children
who are deaf and have physical disability needs special care that is being supported by
community interpreter.
Task 4- Removing discrimination
Supporting equity and removing discrimination in the education sector is one of the vital task
that has been performed by community interpreter. As the students are from different
background and therefore, they get judge. Community interpreter promotes equity within
guiding teachers and schools in context of adopting policies that promotes equality among

students and inclusive learning environment.
Task 5- Role of interpreter
The role of interpreter is great in classroom as such they are not only assigned with interpreting
but educating in their own ways. The community interpreter specifically develops the social
development of child which helps them in increasing their knowledge, social interactions with
interacting with each other and sustaining positive relations. It would enhance their learning
and interest in such activities.
Task 6- Interpersonal skills
By the help of this it enables to develop their interpersonal skills in which it builds the ability to
interact by effective learning and communications and it would supportive to connect with
various people and benefits their personality development as well.
