AI Summary
This presentation addresses the significant challenges encountered in community nursing, aiming to improve the quality of life for individuals within a community by providing holistic care. It highlights key issues such as transportation difficulties, security concerns for nurses and their equipment, communication barriers due to language differences, potential for physical harm from unstable patients, and the impact of long working hours. The literature review synthesizes findings on these challenges, emphasizing the need for nurses to understand community practices, take safety precautions, and develop effective communication strategies. The presentation recommends community-specific approaches, cultural sensitivity, and the use of evidence-based practices to address these challenges. It also suggests further research to enhance the accuracy of studies, including interviews with nurses, community members, and government officials. The presentation is designed to be a rapid-fire presentation and includes a 250-word abstract summarizing the key findings.

INTRODU
CTION Community nursing is an important part of the health care services
It aims at improving the quality of life of all individuals within a community by providing holistic care
KEY ISSUES OF
COMMUNITY NURSING
Transportatio
n
(lack of
adequate
transportation
services in
underdeveloped
areas)
Security
(Safety of the
nurses and
their
equipments)
Communicatio
n barrier
(Inability to

community)
Physical
harm (due to
unstable/
aggressive
patients)
Long

SUMMARY OF KEY POINTS
OF THE LITERATUREMost of the nurses face transportation difficulties due to underdevelopment of the areas, poor transportation facilities (due to
sparse population) and the need to find alternative transportation methods (due to high costs of certain additional facilities such as
air transportation) (Van Iersel et al, 2018).
The remote location or underdevelopment of certain communities pose high risk for the safety of nurses. Many cases of
hijacking/kidnapping have been reported in the past, which has created fear amongst the nurses in providing services to the same
areas. Moreover, the security of the equipments carried by them is another challenge that they face in such areas (Murdaugh,
Parsons, & Pender, 2018).
The nurse may not know the local language of the communities, which might make communication difficult and hence, lead to
longer assessment periods and wrong diagnosis (McKenzie, Kwok, Tsang & Moreau, 2015). According to Nazarko (2018), the
nurses may try to learn the local language or employ translator. However, this would require more funding and the information
from the interpreter may not be appropriate.
When providing services to unstable/mentally challenged people, the nurses may be assaulted. The nurses are unwilling to work in
such environment and hence, these people may miss the important health services.
Long working hours is another problem as it may decrease the efficiency of the nurses by affecting their ability to assess and
counsel the community members (Taylor et al, 2015).

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR
IMPROVING PRACTICEThe nurses should learn about the specific community and identify the best ways to approach them while doing the
health assessment.
They should always learn about the cultural practices of the communities. This would assist in gaining their trust
and hence, providing holistic care.
Learning few words of their local language may aid in developing a good relationship with them.
Safety precautions should be taken while dealing with unstable patients.
The nurses may require additional skills and creativity to establish communication with community members.
RECOMMENDATIONS FOR
IMPROVING FUTURE RESEARCH
The number of sources
accessed for the research may
be increased to improve the
study
Primary sources may also be
accessed to increase accuracy
of the study. This may be done
by conducting interviews of
nurses, community members
and government officials.
The use of evidence-based
practice would assist in
devising appropriate plans to
manage the challenges faced
during community nursing
