INTRODUCTION
Competitive Strategy can be explained as plans and policies which are adopted by business
entity as a long term plan which can directly allow the organisation to take competitive lead from
the market. This types of strategy is necessary because it certainly allows the business
organisation to identify about risk, strength and weakness of a company which can easily allow
to give tough competition to rivalry firm. In context of the report, competitive strategy related to
five different firm will be explained within the file. The company on which this report will focus
is Cisco, Walmart China, Qantas, Procter and Gamble and Coca Cola Amatil.
Week 7 - Cisco
Q3. How will the organisational capabilities translate to core competencies that give Cisco a
sustainable competitive advantage in their industry?
Cisco System is one of the organisation which is working within the field of
infrastructure for allowing the customers to be more friendly with internet. Looking at the given
scenario of Cisco it can be easily seen that the main focus of the company is to build network
through the process of acquisition. It is one of the strategy which has been used by company to
attract more number of users towards internet service and allowed the company to take
competitive advantage within the market.
It is necessary to understand that Cisco system have done number of acquisition but it is
not necessary that all of the acquisition will work because there some of the acquisition which
may backfire to company. There is diversification strategy which has been used by company and
that has the ability to provide positive response to company (Salunke, S. and et. al., 2019). The
main purpose of focusing towards diversification strategy is to ensure that more number of
customers get connected with organisation through which goals can be accomplished easily. In
simple words, more diversified business strategy means more number of customers will get the
opportunity to connect within company and in this particular situation company can easily allow
themselves to average all of the profit and losses which is very much important in current
scenario.
In addition, the main organisation capabilities which had translated into core
competences for company like Cisco was their strategies where they identified about the

requirement of internet in future period time. If an organisation is able to determine about the
future requirement of customers then they can easily connect themselves with more number of
customers through which huge advantage can be taken from exiting market but giving
competition to rivalry firms.
Week 8 - Walmart China

Walmart is a US based multinational organisation dealing in different part of the world
but it has been seen that there are number of nation where company have failed to earn profit as
per their expectation. Similarly, China is among one of the nation where Walmart have struggled
tremendously just because of the strategy which they have used (Linton and Kask, 2017). It was
seen that company was not aware about the culture of China due to which they were not able to
accomplish their goals. The process of conducting business activity within China is completely
different then western nation which was one of the major failure of a company. Even there was
some of the situation where company was unable to follow local laws and regulation due to
which it become difficult for them to operate in most of the citizens of China.
Looking at the scenario of Walmart China, it is necessary to understand that company
had failed to meet out the expectation of customers. In order to deal within the bigger market like
China or other nation, it is necessary for the organisation to understand about the laws and
regulation because that certainly allows the organisation to perform much effectively. Whenever
any of the organisation have knowledge regarding local laws of specific nation then they will
have idea that how any of the decision is required to be taken. Secondly, it becomes essential for
the company to identify about requirements of customers because that can be one of the process
through which sales can be enhanced and that will have positive impact upon organisation in
accomplishing their goals. Further, company should be able to notice about political decision and
if in case they don’t come up with new plans and idea then huge problem may occur which can
be seen within the organisation like Walmart China (Cotterill, 2019).

In present scenario, it is necessary to understand that Qantas is among top airlines
company which has been dealing with their customers at greater platform. The main focus of the
company is to provide some of the effective services to their customers so that large market area
can be covered in short time period. It is necessary to understand that they must be able to focus
on those particular services which effective and which can allow them to earn profit in long term.
If any of the company is able to do that then it becomes easy for them to accomplish their goals
in effective manner. It has been seen that whenever ever any of the organisation likes to take the
help of international cooperative alliances then their chances of accomplish goals increases but
advantages and disadvantages always includes in it which has been discussed below:
Advantages
There is higher possibilities that company like Qantas Airways can easily cover large
market position through which chances of accomplishing the goal increases automatically
(Stouten and et. al., 2019).
It can become one of the effective process through which organisation can easily allow
themselves built trust amount customers which is very much important in current
scenario.
As company have come across with partnership which means that they will have very
less competition within the market which can be one of the key factor behind their
success.
Disadvantages
As company has started its services in number of new nation but due to lack of passenger
company might have to suffer from losses which is one of the biggest drawback within
this types of business activity.
It has been seen that different nation have different culture, laws and policies which
means that company will have to follow new laws and regulation and that is one of the

Corporate Governance can be explained as the laws and regulation which an organisation
must follow for the purpose of accomplishing their goals and target on specific time period. Any
of the entity can connect with their customers at higher number in that particular situation where
they are able to deliver facts about any of the information. In context of P&G, their top level
management are responsible for taking any of the decision. Looking at this, ethical decision
making strategy plays huge role because it certainly allows them to accomplish the goal. Ethical
decision making policy from customers will certainly allow the management to cover large
market area because trust can be easily built among the customers and that does have huge role
in present scenario. Any of the company can only perform in that respective situation where they
are able to deliver best possible services to their customers.
Organisation like P&G can be benefitted from the decision making approach which are
ethical in approach. In simply worlds, only those organisations can sustain within the market
who are able to take competitive advantage in the market which is only possible through the
process of corporate governance strategy of company (Hernández-Perlines and et. al., 2016).
Corporate governance also helps the business top level management because it guides them that
how they are needed to take any of the decision. Taking right decision always play the crucial
role because it improves the overall performance of a company through which P&G can
accomplish their goals.

that organisation must be able to meet out the expectation through which goals and target can be
accomplished. Corporate Social Responsibility just not only help the company to perform

effectively but even it allows the organisation to build its image within the market which is very
much important in current scenario for achieving the targets. In context of CCA, corporate social
responsibility can play huge role for them because it certainly provides them the way through
which they can easily connect for accomplishing the goals.
CSR can strive to improve the performance of CCA with the help of social impact where
they can work on some of the important area such as work for reuse of products (Cotterill, 2019).
Secondly, company has the option where they reduce overall packing cost due to which charges
for water bottle can be reduce which is also one of the positive for society because people will be
able to drink purified water which can allow them to keep themselves healthier. Donation within
number of charitable organisation can be one of the way through which company work for the
society and even it can help to meet out the expectation of customers and stakeholders both.

better in that respective situation where they are able to present themselves differently within the
market. It is said that whenever any of the entity is able to present themselves differently than

easily allow themselves to take advantage from the market and which can certainly help them to
