c) Analyze the graphs you derived in (a) and (b): is there anything
interesting that you see?
An interesting trend with regards to Saudi GDP as a percentage of World GDP
is that there has been a significant increase as it has almost doubled from
0.46% in 1989 to a peak of 0.98% in 2012. This may be attributed to GDP
growth in Saudi Arabia being more than the global GDP growth. Further
considering the fluctuation in GDP percentage and the composition of the
Saudi economy, it is evident that oil prices play a key role in determining
Saudi GDP as a percentage of World GDP. This is particularly evident from the
falling share in the recent years owing to lowering of the crude prices.
Assistance towards rising GDP share of Saudi Arabia also seems to be
attributed to higher growth in population as compared to corresponding
global growth. This potentially would lead to higher consumption based
expenditure by the people. Further, the rising share of Saudi population in
global population also seems to be reflective of the higher population growth
rate prevalent in Saudi Arabia which is not surprising considering that it is a
Muslim state.
