Introduction
Term CAD refers to the computer-aided design which is the utilization of computer
device in order to aid in the modification, analysis and creation of the design. Such kind
of software is very useful in the field of engineering and designing process and it has the
potential to enhance the overall performance and effectiveness of the designer. This
report objective is to gather information about the computer aided design and evaluate
the significance of the CAD software in the area of engineering and process design. CAD
software is used by many business industries in order to enhance the communication by
using documentation and it also produces the database for manufacturing. This report is
categorized into major four parts such as the role of CAD in engineering and design
process, how teams can work together to produce products, advantages and limitations
of the digital vault software and advantages of CAD software for industry.
Role of CAD software in engineering and the design process
The computer aided design is defined as computer software which is used to designs a
product or project and document the designs process. This kind of software has the
ability to facilitate the manufacturing process by sending information diagrams of a
project, processes and dimensions of products (Custelcean, et al., 2009). The CAD
software includes generating computer models which are defined through geometrical
parameters. CAD play a significant role in the sector of engineering and design process
where it enables engineers to see the object under a large variety of representations and
to test and perform these objects with the help of simulation process. Mainly, this type
of software is used in the business industries to design and document the project in the
field of engineering (Kapos, et al., 2009). It is analysed that the computer aided design
software can be used in the process design to facilitate designs within the project
development cycle. In the field of engineering, it helps engineers for designing and
developing more effective projects and reduce the cost of implementation.
There are major three steps involves in the field of process design for example design,
manufacturing engineering and design, and production of design all these are
documented by using computer aided design software. In this modern era, the CAD
software is one of the best tools which are utilized in the sector of the design process

and engineering. This technology changed the way of designing and used in engineering
for designing and drawing the projects (Rosen, 2007). Modern CAD technologies are
used for produce a 3D representation of an object and it also captures a geometric
model of the product to be built and generate. In the field of process design computer
aided design tool is used to gather the material data and information and the calculation
of mass properties (Kohorst, et al., 2009). It is observed that the computer aided designs
technology has the ability to increase the performance of product development and
decrease the rate of product costs. From recent research about CAD technology
evaluated that CAD tool has a positive impact in the field of engineering and design
process where developers can easily monitor the performance of product development.
This kind of technology is also used in the engineering field for developing and
producing designs, modules and projects for mechanical systems. It provides the
accuracy, quality and precision which are needed for engineering and design process
and the complete design process can be sped up with computer aided design software.
It also provides a platform to simulate the projects and designs with the help of
simulation technique (Wang, Paris, & Popović, 2011). This technology also locates flaws
and troubleshoots issues which engineers and developers would discover after the
production of design.
How teams can work together to create products
The computer aided design technology includes generating computer projects and
models defined by the geometrical parameters. For creating a product by using CAD
software there are few teams involves for different works such as collecting relevant
information and make a layout, make designs on CAD software, design process team and
simulation team. All these work together in order to create a product through CAD
software (Mandell, and Kortemme, 2009). For developing and creating effective product
teams can use some most advanced technologies and methods like CAE, CAD, and 3D

teams in order to produce and create an effective product. Consumers required the
cheaper, faster and better product that works in less time for which teams can work
together and design an effective product with the help of CAD and CAE tools.
To satisfy the consumer requirements, teams must bring simulation early into the
production and development cycle to drive innovation. Moreover, two or more teams
can work on the simulation in CAD and engineering design tools in order to reduce time
and costs and improve product efficiency. Therefore, with the effective team work
consumers and developers can create and produce better products and the team can
work together in order to reduce errors and maintain work efficiency.
Advantages and limitations of using digital Vault software
Vault is defined as the software which is a part of a computer aided design tool that
helps developers to organize the designed data, manage information and track
revisions. With the help of this software engineers can control and manage the data of
products and engineering procedure in a particular location. Moreover, such kind of
technology is also helpful for creating and developing the civil infrastructure more
effectively within in a single central location. The modern vault software has the ability
to easily interconnect and exchange the data and information with consumers, design
engineers and manufacturing suppliers.
The main advantage of vault software is that it has the ability to control and monitor the
product data and information. In this modern era, this technology helps engineers in
order to produce the project infrastructure in less time (Patrikalakis, and Maekawa,
2009). It also provides consumer security, version control, data integrity and their
protection and restores the functionality of the products. Vault software facilitates
design and produces development collaboration among the huge teams and it can be
easily maintained when a team grows (Autodesk, 2018). It is observed that this
software transferred objects when checking design and drawing into the database
system.

The main limitation of vault software is that it needs more space and memory as
compare to other project management because all data and information exist in the
vault folder. Another limitation of this technology is that it needs on-going server or
network administration activities during developing of an engineering product.
Moreover, it is more costly and complex to understand which create a problem for
maintaining the data and information of products.

The major advantage of CAD software for the industry is that it produces and develops
affective projects or products. Such kind of technology is more accurate to provide a
better design of an engineering product and consumers can create 2D or 3D objects by

can create the layout of the drawing in very less time and it is more reliable in order to

and 3D form. The major limitation of vault software is that it requires more space in
order to store and manage product data and information. Therefore, engineers can
create an effective product or object with the help of computer aided design software.
