Computer Architectures for Gaming: Components, Network, and Budget

This report discusses the components required for a gaming PC, including graphics processing, RAM, processor, motherboard, hard disk, computer case, power supply, and network. It also covers the network requirements for multiplayer gaming and the budget allocation for building a gaming PC. The report is aimed at gamers who want to build a PC that can run the game Battleship V smoothly and within a certain budget.

Introduction
The report deals with the description of the components and the network requirement
of a game called the “Battleship V”. The main criteria for the gamer is to design a PC that
would be running the game smoothly and also the budget for the development of the machine
is allocated which would help them in playing the game and additionally the game is in a
multiplayer version. It has also been informed that the game is to be played in a multiplayer
mode which would be requiring a network. In addition to this, a certain budget has also been
allocated for the development of the network which would enable to play the game online.

The part has been chosen of top quality which can be effective for a longer life cycle
and efficient in most of the games. This gaming Pc has made in a way which can be portable
and yet effective enough to process high-speed instructions while managing the heat. The
compact system has been used for the development of the required machine and there are two
fans that helps in cooling the system rapidly. The main reason due to which the processing of
a certain machine stops is due to the damaged graphics that occurs due the excess heat
released from the system. In addition to this, there are detailed description of important parts
in a gaming PC can be discussed as below:

1.Graphics processing
Graphics cards act mainly as the video cards and it provides the users with the
information about the monitor. A better graphics card would be helpful in providing a better
display to the users whereas they are also specialized for displaying the data required by the
user in graphical format on the screen (Pearsonschoolsandfecolleges, 2018).
The heart of any gaming PC is its graphics card which is the basic component whether
it can support the desired game or not. The main reason for choosing 2 GB Gigabyte video
card to support battleships V and similar games. The benchmark for the Battleship V game is
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 which provides an average score of 4619. Hence the
comparison of 2 GB Gigabyte graphics card is done with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050. It
has been observed that the gigabyte graphics passes the tests very easily and hence, the
selection of the graphics card has been done effectively (Videocardbenchmark, 2018).
2.RAM
RAM is also known as Random Access Memory and it is a form of data storage used
by the CPU. It is a primary memory of the computer and it is connected directly to the
motherboard on the system and it forms the main memory of the system and also stores the
details of the operating system, programs and the data related to the programs in the systems
(Pearsonschoolsandfecolleges, 2018).
The most important factor in the speed of a computer is RAM. Increasing it from 32
to 64 megabytes can greatly improve all its functions, even an Internet connection can see its
speed increased. That is why it must be the first step before deciding to change it. The cost of
memory is low and can easily be installed on most computers, even by inexperienced people.
Ideally, you should reach up to 128 megabytes of RAM, but many older computers do not
have that capacity (Moore, 2018).

The ram supports the game speed while also supporting the graphics card. The 8 GB
ram will allow the game to be processed without any hanging problem. The DDR4 system
has been selected because of its higher clock speed than the DDR3. With higher rate of
transfer rates the information in the DDR4 version of the memory it is an obvious choice for
selecting the DDR4 memories. DDR4 also consumes the lower amount of memory other than
the versions of memory.
3. Processor
The CPU is basically the brain of the computer and is known as the brain of the
computer. It is processor of the computer and comes in the form of a chip. The CPU is placed
directly under the fan required for the heatsink and it is site directly in the motherboard of the
system designed. The control procedures of the computer and the data transactions within the
different sectors of the computer system (Amazon, 2018). The basic logical procedures and
the calculations are carried out by the CPU. Intel Core 2 Extreme (QX6700) Processor -
2.66GHz (8192KB L2 Cache) 1066MHz FSB has been chosen as the suitable processors for
assembling the system that would support the game. The core to duo processor has the
following features:
 Frequency:2667 MHz, Bus speed:1066 MHz, Clock multiplier:10.
 Data width:64 bit, 4 cores, L2 cache:8MB.
 Thermal Design Power:130 Watt.
The Intel processor has been used over the AMD processors as this processor provides
multithreads for running the programs. The CPU offers around 10 CPU threads. The
processor provides the power over the graphics so that they would be able to run high end
games on the lower budget machines (Smith, 2018).

The specified processor has been selected for its efficiency at low price. The processor
has enough potential to handle most of the games of 2018 which demand high processing
speed especially in online games such as battleships V. Its multi-threading with dual-core
processing allows the user with a smooth gaming experience. Intel is certainly the most
popular processor brand in the world. More recent surveys indicate that the company is
responsible for revenue of more than 80% of the world market of CPUs, while AMD is in a
distant second place (Smith, 2018).
4. Motherboard
The heart of the computer is known as the motherboard, and also it is very important
component of the computer and other components are integrated with the other parts of the
computer. The computer peripherals are integrated with the motherboard and the components
are used for the communication with the motherboard. The ROM, RAM, PCL slots and the
USB ports are attached with the motherboard. The controllers such as keyboard, mouse and
other controller devices are connected directly with the motherboard with the use of the ports
in the motherboard (Pearsonschoolsandfecolleges, 2018). ASROCK B250M PRO4 S1151
mATX Intel B250 DDR4 Elegant Motherboard - Black is the best option because it has AMD
Quad CrossFireXGraphics Output Options. This motherboard supports 2 USB ports and
comes with 4 memory slots. The network card 1x Gb LAN (Intel I219-V) is used for the
connection to the network. It is a Low Power 1 Gigabit Ethernet PHY (Reichelt, 2018).
5.Hard disk
The hard disk is the main storage device in your computer. The secondary memory of
the computer is also known as the hard disk and it stores the information even when the
machine is switched off (Teach-ict, 2018). All the data and the files of the users are stored in
the hard disk of the computer and the required software data are also stored in the hard disk
of the computer (userbenchmark, 2018). Seagate ST250DM000 Barracuda 7200.14 250GB is

used for the development of the system for supporting the Battleship V game. The Seagate
Barracuda ST250DM000 250GB 7200RPM SATA3/SATA 6.0 GB/s 16MB Hard Drive (3.5
inch) provides a speed of 7200RPM and also comes at a size of 3.5 inch only which is very
suitable for the cabinet used. The effective speed of the hard disk is around 70% and average
user bench is around 69%, also the hard disk provides peak lab bench of around 58%. Hence,
the hard disk provides an Avg. 4K Random Mixed IO Speed 0.68MB/s for processes to be
stored in the machines.
6.Computer case
All the components of the CPU formed for processing the game in the system are to
be assembled together and stored in the cabinet or the computer case. The Aerocool CS-1101
Mini Micro ATX Tower Computer Case – Black, computer case is being used for the
development of the machine. It is an all-black exterior case that is helpful in supporting high-
end graphics card up to 375mm, CPU cooler up to 150mm, up to 3 x 3.5" HDD and 1 x 2.5"
HDD/SSD, USB3.0 x 1, USB2.0 x 2, HD Audio & Mic (Amazon, 2018).
7. Power Supply
Power supply is important for connection to the machine. The network and the
machine would depend on this power source for providing power to whole set up. Aerocool
Integrator 500W Power Supply, 80 Plus Bronze, up to 85% Efficiency, 12cm Black Fan, For
Mainstream Systems | Black has been used here for the power supply to system for playing
the game which is desired by the user. The supply provides a high efficiency PSU which is
efficient up to 85% in the system. Main cable length up to 550mm is easy for high-end tower
chassis installation is provided in the power supply device (Amazon, 2018).

8. Network
Network patch cables are very important for the connection in between the different
system that would be used for playing the multiplayer game. The network patch cables used
for the 1aTTack CAT5 UTP Ethernet LAN Network Cable with 2x RJ45 10m – White cables
are used in the network for connection of the peripherals in the system. The cables are 10 m
long and provide standard CAT 5e cables and an inner conductor of 4x2xAWG 26/7 CCA. In
addition to the cables the network also requires a router and an internet connection that would
be useful for playing the game online. Routers work with packets, and direct them to the
proper IP address. Switches work with frames, and send them to the proper MAC address.
For a more detailed breakdown. Virgin Media Super Hub 3 VMDG505 is used for the
network connection in between the machines and also the internet connections which are to
be established in the network are provided by the virgin media internet operators. The
internet service providers also provide the network with a huge VoIP range and VPN
facilities. The virgin media hub 3 is capable of supporting a download speed of around 1 Gb.
The router is also wifi enabled and has got dual-band which is helpful for connection multiple
gadgets at a single instance. The motherboard connects the system to the network wires. The
LAN wire is connected to the Ethernet port on the system and MAN is connected to the
router. The cable is then extended from the router and connected to the motherboard with the
help of IP addressing methods.
9. Operating system
Operating system is the most important system software for a machine that is required
for running any type of application software on the system. There are a number of options for
selection of an operating system for a computer. Linux, the kernel, is a wonderful thing. It’s
one of the marvels the human race has produced. It’s a joint work of large corporations such
as IBM and countless work hours of truly great programmers who donate an amazing work to

the human race for free (Ispreview, 2018). However, the windows 10 student has been
selected here as it is both cheap and also a very popular product which has widespread use in
the world of desktop computing. In addition to this, the user interface provided by the
operating system is very efficient and hence, the use of the system is more than that of the
other operating systems. Running the game and installation would also be very easy on the
systems.
10.Gaming Keyboard with Mouse and Headset
The machine that is being constructed or assembled is a gamming system and hence,
there is requirement of having a set of gaming input devices being connected to the main
system. E-Blue Cobra Gaming Keyboard with Mouse and Headset – Green is selected for
controlling the characters in the games. The bundle provides choices for the gamers in terms
of their gaming experience and also they provide a gamming keyboard and gamming headset
attached together.
Conclusion
For conclusion it can be said that Battleship V is a high resolution game and hence
requires a high configuration machine on which the game can be played. However, it is to be
said that the machine can be developed within the budget allocated. Additionally, the game
also requires a network in which it can support multiplayer gaming and hence, a budget has
been provided for the development of the network that would support the game. The PC has
been designed in such a way which can support the highly demanding games which requires
custom specifications. However, as the technological advancements pace up and new games
with better graphics are introduced, it is necessary for the user to upgrade his/her system. In
short, there is a constant pressure from computer manufacturers and software producers to
replace equipment to adapt to new programs. This, however, is not essential since most work

properly with older computers and less memory. The need for change must be influenced by
the determination that commonly used programs do not work properly or hard drive memory
is insufficient. In many of these occasions it is enough to make an update of the computer,
adding more RAM and / or changing the hard disk for one of greater capacity. To choose a
new computer, it is not necessary to acquire the highest speed and capacity, since the
objective measurements made with them have determined that there is not a very important
difference with the slowest ones, especially if they are going to use programs such as
processors. The required information about the hardware and the peripherals has been
provided in this report and also the required justification for the choice of the devices and the
peripherals has been provided in this report.
