This study covers computer systems design and integration as an important engineering conceptsin todays’ technological world. In computer systems design, research methodology has beengiven significant attention in order to highlight some of the factors that computer systemengineers should focus on. In computer system engineering field, the development process isvery important and cannot be overlooked. It is the system development section that is used tooutline the desired procedures that should be followed when actualizing any computer systemdevelopment. Similarly, it explains steps followed when achieving results of a specific task.Without giving required attention on computer system design work, it would be difficult forsystem engineers to explain how the task was done as well as its implementation procedures.Further, the study has given an intensive analysis on the possible methods that can be used tocollect data in either qualitative or quantitative study. Some of the methods that can be usedwhen collecting data on computer system features are; face to face interviews with respondents, questionnaires, practical sessions and surveys. After research has been completed and results hasbeen analyzed, they have to be disseminated to the target groups through online forums, physicalcontact with students and other researchers, conferences and publications through books andjournals. Finally, giving out samples to users’ with aim of getting useful feedback in order tomake recommended changes. KeywordsDuring evaluation of the research methods in the engineering field, the following terms werequite prevalent;Research- This term is used to explain the effort directed in the study of any given topic. Methodology- The procedure and the standards followed when coming up with theresults of the study.

Processor-A computer component that supports functioning of the computer system. Itworks like computer brain. Computer systems- Integration of many components that are brought together to make upthe computer.Quantitative- A research methodology that involves analysis and tabulation of thecollected results. All conclusions are made from the analysis of the collected data.IntroductionBackground knowledge In computer architecture engineering laboratory work, development methodology sectionis very important because it outlines the goal of making any computer systems upgrade (Marler& Arora 2004, p. 372-374). It has been noted that, computer systems developers and researchersdo not focus on giving out any development methodology when implementing computer systemsupgrades. In any system development, methodology is very important section because it outlinesthe process involved in entire computer systems design. The selected method in the study is usedto quantify the procedure used in completing specific tasks. To make practical work moreauthentic, it is important to focus on the methodology used to achieve the task. In the researchwork, there are several methodologies that computer engineers’ can implement when designingsome components’ such as processor. In most of the practical tasks, quantitative method of studyis used because it involves analysis of the results obtained from the study (Bernard & Bernard2012, p. 85). However, some research may focus on qualitative study due to the nature of thestudy topic chosen. In order to achieve desired results, the chosen study may involve someaspects such as surveys from target respondents. Further, according to Zimmerman, Murillo-Sanchez & Thomas (2011, p. 14-15), case studies that are directed towards analysis of thescenario can be used to evaluate the computer users perception on either current processing

speed with aim of making it faster. It is important to note the value of methodology section incomputer architectural engineering considering the value it has in modern life. In most cases, the choice of methodology to be used in the study is not determined by theresearcher but it is a necessity from research topic (Shull, Singer & Sjoberg 2007, p. 569).Although some of the research topics are open to any methodology, the choice of the studymethodology is to be made by the researcher after analysis of the research topic. In order tochoose the best methodology to use, the researcher has to evaluate if there are existing andcorrelating variables depending on the target part of computer systems under study (Leydens,Moskal & Pavelich 2004, p. 67). If there exist any correlation between some variables, the studywould fall under quantitative research methodology. This helps any researcher to evaluate andanalyze whether study topic is either qualitative or quantitative. In both qualitative andquantitative study, the sample and the sample size has to be chosen wisely. Further, According toElo & Kyngas (2008, p. 112-113), there are few cases where researcher may decide to use bothqualitative and quantitative study method due to the nature of the topic under study. In computerarchitectural engineering, there should be at least one methodology when writing reports. Therefore, research methodology is very important and cannot be neglected in the engineeringfield. Aims and objectives The project focuses on the research methods used in completing any engineering laboratoryprocess in computer architectural work. To demonstrate the importance of methodology sectionin the report writing, the following should be addressed; The importance of report methodology section in both practical and thesis developmentin computer architecture engineering.
