Personal Statement
I am looking forward to studying Computing and Information Technologies (CIT)
course as an online learning course at university advanced diploma. Being a learner, who
wishes to improve their knowledge as well as understanding about vital aspects of CIT for
enhancing career opportunities or for preparing myself for my postgraduate research, I really
want to pursue this study. I notice that CIT course is not mainly focused on digital
technologies but it also comprises their effect on our environment and society as well. Hence,
above-mentioned reasons made me realize that I should upgrade my skills and knowledge by
studying this course at the University of Derby.
I want to study this course for studying highly transferable subjects while acquiring
practical and academic skills that are broadly sought from today’s IT and computing
employers. My major reason for applying for this course is that it is like an excellent stepping
stone in order to achieve full degree. I believe that I can achieve my career goals by going on
to study the CIT course while studying online. I am creative designer and thereby having
strong knowledge about website and development in detail. Besides, I am having a decent
background of degrees and diplomas for my education. For instance, I have completed
diploma in computer operations from a well-known institute in Nigeria while achieving the
senior secondary certificate exam from good school of Delta State. My language skills are
also one of my plus points as I am very good at reading, speaking and writing the famous
languages like French and English.
I find myself eligible for studying this course as I am having a compatible skills-set
including skills like brand development, creative designing, video editing and many more. In
addition to that, I have a decent knowledge of digital marketing which will allow me to
strengthen my skills with CIT course. In the context of website design and development, I
have got an experience of 16 years in IT and creative designing. This makes me interested
and eligible for studying and effectively passed this course for future career endeavors.
Moreover, I have worked in the fields like host corporate website, new website
designing, user interface designing, website maintenance, as well as email, hosting and
website design. In this way, my knowledge and experience of website design and
development are motivating me for studying the course of CIT and University of Derby
online. Apart from this, I want to strengthen my knowledge of data security, network access,

and backup systems. I have also planned, organized, controlled as well as evaluated IT and
electronic data operations at appreciable level while working as an information system
officer.
In this way, my past experience in the field of IT and web design and development
made me realize that I should upgrade my technical skills with the help of online learning
programs for future career development. Therefore, my desire for studying this course will
definitely make me learn web development, network security, and management along with
computing technologies within global society.
