INTRODUCTION
In today’s context proper management is essential within an organization as it help to
conduct each and every activity in effective and appropriate manner. With proper management a
an organization can have certain rules and regulation for employees and staff members so that
they can monitor their activities with in workplace. In this report an organization chosen is
ASDA, a subsidiary retail store established in 1949 by Peter and Fred and its headquartered
south Bank Leeds, England. They are operating at more than 663 locations at worldwide. This
report is going to determine the history about the respective company along with its mission,
vision, leadership and style management practices which are adopted by an organization.
Main Body
ASDA store Ltd is a one of the famous British supermarket retail store whose
headquarter is in Leeds, West Yorkshire. It is founded in year 1949 by Peter and Fred Asquith
and Sir Noel Stockdale. They are offering variety of goods and services such as grocery, general
merchandise as well as services related to finance. Additionally, they are involved in two
business they are ASDA mobile and ASDA money. It is operating their business more than 663
location at worldwide.
Mission: Its mission is to become Britain’s one of the best as well as valuable retail store
by fulfilling and exceeding needs of customer.
Vision: Its vision statement is that they want to develop and design appropriate product
and services in order to fulfill need of customers as per need and preferences with in affordable
price.
Apart from this, ASDA was first incorporated in year 1963 from which acquisition
brother have converted their old building into supermarket store with the process of self service.
After that in year 1965 respective people approach them with the second proposal that to run and
develop their business with small store within different location with the partnership with
Associated Dairies. Respectively, both the companies joined their hands and stared their
business together and run their business with the name of ASDA( Asquith and Dauries)..

Moreover,. They have started growing rapidly in competitive marketplace. Respectively, they
open their new venture more than 30 stores in England, along with this they are also start
expanding in south countries where they open store in various areas such as Estover area of
Plymouth, Devon and Gasport. Apart from this, they have started they have expanded their
business with South Wales area like Rogerstone and Newport where largest store is open in year
1989. Now a day the respective company is conducting its business at high level and their
customers base is also enlarge as comparison to others. Thus, in this report, ASDA supermarket
retail industry is selected because it is most appropriate sector or industry for this report as they
have conducted their business in most appropriate manner. Moreover, with such business they
are able to maintain their sustainability in competitive market place. Apart from this industry
there is major role or involvement of leadership that help research to evaluate situations in
effective and appropriate manner. Thus, they have adopted leadership techniques and style so
that they can perform their business operation and activities in an appropriate manner.
Vision, leadership style and management practices and strategies making use of various theories
Herein, ASDA is a British supermarket retail store which is operating its business
function and activities in different areas of United Kingdom and worldwide so that they can
explore their business in an effective manner. It is headquarter is in England and they are
generally operating is business through approx. 633 stores. They are providing variety of
products and services such as grocery, general merchandise as well as financial services.
Moreover, there are 165000 employee staff members who are working with respective
company in order to attain their mission and vision as well as attain sustainability for longer
duration of time. Additionally their mission and vision is to provide appropriate product and
services within affordable price as per their need and preferences so that they can attain high
customer loyalty in competitive marketplace. Herein, for such purpose manager of respective
company need to conduct market analysis so that they able to identify and understand needs as
well as requirement of customers. Accordingly the they can serve their customer so that they can
attain more customer loyalty in competitive market place. As they are developing themselves
asper the need and preference of customer as in this manner their products and services in
appropriate manner in order to attain goal and objective. Along with this ASDA never
compromise in their quality of products which attract customers in high ratio and retain for a
long run.

In an organization leadership plays an effective role as this help a business to achieve their
goals and objective in an appropriate manner. Leadership refers to skills of an individual who is
playing a role of leader at an organization as well as who can handle work in appropriate manner.
Herein, a leader is one who have skills to get work dome from other in an appropriate manner so
that objectives can be attained. Moreove, there are diverse type of leadership style available and
which can be adopted by a leaders in order to manage their workplace such as autocratic,
democratic, laissez- faire, bureaucratic, strategical, transactional, transformational and many
others.
In context ASDA company need to adopt autocratic leadership style so that they can
perform their roles and responsibility in an attractive manner. So that they can operate their
business function and activities in an effective manner so that they can attain sustainability for
longer duration of time. Apart from this, autocartive of leadership is also known as authoritarian
leadership in which decision is based by concerning each and every individual with in a
workplace. At respective company employees are free to take decision according to situation by
which they handle situation in effective and appropriate manner.
Herein, for having an appropriate result in their business management and function need ASDA
adopt theory X and theory Y management theory. Along with this they have adopted
motivational theory so that they motivate and encourage their employees in effective and
appropriate manner. According to this theory in an organization there are two type of employees
having different behaviour i.e. behaviour X and behaviour Y employees. Theory X employees
are those staff who always needs close supervision as well as these peoples didn't like to work.
As in today’s context an individual always desire to have money so that they can fulfil their
dreams in an effective manner.. Whereas theory Y staff like to conduct work as well as they
didn't required any close supervision. Thus, in this manner an individual become more
motivated and carry ought their work as well as activities in an appropriate manner. As it is
beneficial for both organization and employees as well as staff members so that each of them can
attain their goals and objectives in an appropriate manner respectively.

As per the case of ASDA they conduct or adopt management strategies in order to do
appropriate recruitment and selection process. Thorough which company operations and
functions will conduct in proper manner in order to attain goal and enhance profitability ratio.
For which they conduct various activities such as planning according to vacant position, hire
candidates which is appropriate, train them so that they enhance their skills and conduct work in
proper way. They also conduct activities for motivating and encouraging employees on every six
months. For an organization management practices are essential because by this they able to
conduct work in effective and appropriate manner. Thus, they need to proper planning
according to situation and then they implement plan in effective manner, motivate employees so
they can they can perform their best in an effective manner so that their can achieve their goals
in an appropriate manner.
How it can be achieved or implement by company
In today’s leadership style refers to a way in which a leader manger and run their
organization in effective manner in order to attain succession at a marketplace. In case ASDA
they are operating their business functions through autocratic leadership style. According to
which they will do planning, directing, motivating, implementing, developing plans and many
more. According to manager of respective company they hire appropriate employees which
conduct work in effective and appropriate manner. According to this style staff of respective
company are free to take decision according to situation or condition. This is so because there
main objective of management is to attain goal and vision in proper manner. For such purpose
they need train their employees and staff members in an effective manner so that best result can
be developed in an effective manner. Moreover, peace can be maintained at a workplace so that
each and every employees can engage with each other so that their activities and be determined
and goals and objectives can be achieved.
Manager of respective company adopt appropriate marketing strategies by which they
able to conduct thing in right as well as appropriate way. Main reason behind adopting strategies
of management at workplace is to hire appropriate employees and empower them to conduct
work in effective manner which will leads to increase in profitability ratio. Along with this
company also encourage employees by organizing various activities such as train them,
encourage employees, appreciate them and many moreor train and develop employees ASDA

manager adopt various sources such on the job training, off the job training, corporate learning,
store attachment, role specific training and many more. Moreover respective company adopt
suitable marketing practices according to situation of workplace, by this they gain competitive
advancement in proper manner that leads to increase in profitability and market shares.
ASDA adopt theory X and theory Y for developing marketing strategies in effective and
efficient manner. For which manager of respective company conduct analysis and develop
strategies according to both type of peoples so that they equally encourage them in effective and
appropriate manner. This will help them in developing suitable and essential relationship
between employees and employer. Along with this when manager of respective company
develop strategies by considering both type of employees they able to satisfy them in effective
and efficient manner.
By conducting these steps or method in effective and appropriate manner ASDA able to
enhance its profitability ratio and market shares by adopting business operations and function in
proper manner.
Recommendation for improvement
From the above discussion it has been determined that leadership play’s an effective role
in an organization context. Moreover, by evaluating and determining By evaluating ASDA, they
need to adopt certain changes so that they can maintain their effective ness in competitive market
place. For such purpose some of the recommendation are determined below:
 Respective company in order to improve their working are they must adopt new and
innovative promotional technology so that they able to attract more and more customers
in effective manner.
 Along with this they must also provide training to employees so that they can do work in
more appropriate manner.
 Herein, they need to engage their employees in decision making process so that get more
innovative and unique ideas from employees as well as it will help them to have
transparency within organization.

Thus, the above mention are some of the recommendation for ASDA so that they can adopt
and increase their profitability ratio and customers bases in proper manner. Thus, they can
achieve their goals and objectives as well as sustainability for longer period of time.

From above discussion it has been concluded management is essential for an organization
in order to maintain and run business operation in effective manner Herein, with effective
management an organization able to conduct work in appropriate manner that help in attaining
goal and objective in appropriate manner. Apart from this there are various type of leadership
style which can be adopted by a company such as democratic, autocratic, laissez- faire, strategic,
transactional, transformational and bureaucratic leadership style. Furthermore, it is necessary for
an organization to adopt appropriate theory according to situations and conduction so that they
can face as well as overcome it in appropriate manner.
