procedure in order to have positive effect on the society. It is basically the approach which is
adopted by multinational organisation in order to ensure success in global market. Corporate social

environment. It also provides firm with social as well as financial benefits. The purpose of
corporate social responsibility is to make sure that all the business activities are executed in ethical

INTRODUCTION
Corporate social responsibility can be refired to as the firm sense of responsibility towards
the environment as well as community. Objective of facilitating the corporate social responsible
practices by company is to reduce the negative effect of their business operation on environment as
well as society. Corporate social responsibility can also be considered to be as initiatives or efforts
taken by an enterprise for bringing improvement in the society. The corporate social activities
includes donation of money, implementation of environmentally-friendly policies within an
organisation etc.
The report has focus on identifying the strategy adopted by companies in order to fulfil its
corporate social responsibility in context of Hewlett Packard. It is basically multinational
corporation which offers goods related to information technology. Assignment will include some
suggestions which can be utilised by business entity fore enhancing social welfare.
THEORETICAL BACKGROUND
Corporate social responsibility can be defined as an obligation of company to pursue such
policies , strategies and decisions which are desirable in context of objectives and value of society.
Six important characteristics of Corporate social responsibility are voluntary, internalizing, multiple
stakeholder orientation, beyond philanthropy , practices as well as values. One crucial
characteristics of CSR is that it aligns economic and social responsibilities.
Classical view theory of CSR, according to this hypothesis the main obligation of
companies to earn profit and comply with laws prevailing in the nation. As per this concept,
manager in Hewlett Packard need to concentrate on profit maximisation.
Legitimacy theory, this hypothesis has been developed on the basis of generalised
perception that he actions of an entity are desirable, proper, or appropriate within some socially
constructed system of norms, values, and beliefs. According to this, management in Hewlett
Packard to continuously monitor that their business is serving the society. Legitimacy theory, as
company operates in community through perceived agreement related to performing some socially
responsible actions (Bourg-Meyer, Elias and Chevalier, 2018). Under this theory, communicating
the initiatives taken by an organisation in context of CSR can be considered to be as a source of
initiating as well as protecting an enterprise Legitimacy.
