Research Topic/ Research Question:
Influence of Covid-19 on employees productivity and performance within UK hospitality industry
1. INTRODUCTION.
Research Background: (Introduction to the research area with some background information). Include
the following:
The present research is based on the topic of Covid-19 which has a major effect on the performance and
productivity of the employees as it reduces their working efficiency and effectiveness to work in order
to achieve the goals and objectives of the business (Rindermann, Becker and Coyle, 2020). The Covid-
19 is a major disease that effects the well-being and health of many people as the virus is dangerous
which is spread from one person to another. It has resulted in closing many of the businesses in the UK
and this reduces the company success and profitability in the business market.
Aims & Objectives
Aim: (What do you want to achieve and why do you want to achieve aim?)
To identify the influence of Covid-19 on employees productivity and performance within UK
hospitality industry. A study on Park Lane Hotel
Objectives: (How do you want to achieve this aim(s)). State at least three but not more than four
objectives).
I. To identify the impact of Covid-19 on the performance and productivity of employees within UK
hospitality industry.
II. To identify the challenges faced by Park Lane Hotel while managing employee performance and
productivity during Covid-19.
III. To examine the strategies for overcoming the issues faced by Park Lane Hotel during pandemic.
Research Questions: (The breakdown of the research topic for some specific questions- it is easier to
convert the objectives into questions- only required for if you are conducting a qualitative research

study.
I. What is the impact of Covid-19 on the performance and productivity of employees within UK
hospitality industry.
II. What are the challenges faced by Park Lane Hotel while managing employee performance and
productivity during Covid-19.
III. What are the strategies for overcoming the issues faced by Park Lane Hotel during pandemic.
Research Hypotheses: These may be only required if you are conducting a quantitative research study
H0 (Null hypothesis):
H1 (Alternative hypothesis):
Research Rationale: (Justification of the proposed study and potential benefits). The following
questions will help you).
The main reason behind conducting this current research topic is to examine the influence of the Covid-
19 on the overall productivity and performance of the employees working in the UK hospitality
industry. This following conducted report also focuses on the strategies that helps in reducing the
impact of the virus on the life of an employee as the hospitality industry has been facing a huge loss.
This research also focus on some of the challenges that UK hospitality industry faces because of low
productivity and profitability in the highly competitive environment (Karatzias and Cloitre, 2019).
There are two types of objectives that can be fulfilled by conducting this current research that is known
as personal and professional objectives. In context of personal objectives, this study will help the
researcher in gaining knowledge about several methods of research to gather and analyse information.
In terms of professional objective, the researcher will learn about the seriousness about the disease
which is necessary for reducing the impact of the virus on the overfall performance of employees.
Scope of Research Study:
The scope of the research is limited as the researcher chooses limited number of respondents for
carrying out the further research. The following research is conducted on quantitative basis which helps
the researcher in understanding the concepts more easily as it consists of numerical value which is easy
to calculate.
2. LITERATURE REVIEW:
The literature should have an introduction, main body that is organised in relevant themes; and a
conclusion

Introduction of literature review
Literature review is defined as an important part of the research which helps the researcher in
collecting information through secondary data (Low, Alamri and Alhuthali, 2022). It is defined as an
overview about the selected research topic in a summarized data which helps the researcher in gaining
more reliable and valuable information.
Main Body
Theme 1: Impact of Covid-19 on the performance and productivity of employees within UK
hospitality industry.
As per the view of Yu, Park and Hyun (2021), Covid-19 has adversely affected the
performance and productivity of employees within the hospitality industry because of the imposed
restrictions of staying at home. Most of the employees have lost their jobs and also some of them have
also faced some change in the pattern of doing work and how the job must develop. Because of the
travel restrictions and complete lock-down by the government of the UK has forced hotels to shut
down their services as customers were not visiting for staying in their space. With the increase in the
cases of Covid-19, the hotels start to cut down jobs and salaries as they are not getting proficient
profits and earnings.
Theme 2: Challenges faced by Park Lane Hotel while managing employee performance and
productivity during Covid-19.
As per the view of Vyas and Butakhieo (2021), Covid-19 has brings various challenges for
Park Lane Hotel which effects the employee productivity and performance in the UK. The first
challenge that hotel will face is mass cancellations over the booking and accommodations because of
the complete lock-down condition where people can not move out. Second challenge that hotel face is
providing salary to its employees even of they are not receiving any profits which affects the overall
growth. Third challenge is reduction of employee efficiency and effectiveness towards achieving the
desired goals because they are scared of getting affected by the virus which generally results in
decreasing their productivity and motivation level.
Theme 3: Strategies for overcoming the issues faced by Park Lane Hotel during pandemic.
As per the view of Anggreanti and Suryanata (2021), there are several different types of
strategies that help Park Lane Hotel in overcoming the issues that are faced by them during the
pandemic. Providing remote work to the employees is considered as the best strategy that helps the

hotel in increasing their morale and motivation. Creating proper cancellation strategy also helps the
hotel in improving the employee performance as customers will gets attracted by their services. Start
social media marketing to attract customers by checking all the relevant posts and following of all the
Covid-19 related protocols. Training staff members properly is also considered as an important
strategy that helps in increasing their knowledge and skills on how to deal with the pandemic situation
effectively.
Conclusion of literature review
It is concluded from the following literature review that Covid-19 has affected the
performance and productivity of the employees in a negative manner which results in decreased
profitability and growth in the UK hospitality industry.
METHODOLOGY
Research philosophy – This is mainly divided into two types which are generally known as
positivism and interpretivism (Mohajan, 2018). The researcher has selected positivism approach in the
present conducted research as it helps in carrying out the reliable and valuable information for
carrying out better results.
Research approach – There are two types of research approaches which is known as deductive and
inductive approach. The researcher has selected deductive approach for carrying out the current
research as it helps in testing the existing selected philosophies with numerical data (Ngozwana,
2018).
Research strategy – The research strategy consist of various different types of methods such as
grounded research, action research, survey and many more (Säfsten and Gustavsson, 2020). The
researcher has selected survey method to carry on the present conducted research topic as it helps in
collecting quantitative data from large population.
Research choice It can be divided in two types which is known as quantitative and qualitative
method (Abutabenjeh and Jaradat, 2018). The researcher has selected quantitative approach for
carrying out the present research in an effective manner because it helps the researcher in collecting
numerical information which is easy to calculate and understand.
Time horizon – It can be divided into two parts which are primarily known as cross-sectional and
longitudinal approaches. The researcher has chosen cross-sectional method in the present research so
that objectives can be achieved in a real time condition (Babii, 2020).

Data collection – This can be divided into two types that is known as primary and secondary method.
The researcher has selected both the methods in the present research for collecting data (Phillips and
Ritala, 2019). Both methods are important as it helps in gathering important and qualitative
information which is effective for the researcher.
CONCLUSION
It is being concluded from the above gathered data that Covid-19 has impacted negatively on he
growth and development of the employee as the hospitality industry is facing major issues because of
the complete lock-down and travel restrictions in all over the world.
WORK PLANNING
(Gantt Chart, PERT Chart). Presentation of the actual Chart
Gantt chart is defined as a graphical description about the project schedule which is in the form of bar
chart and helps in showing the start and finish dates about the elements used in the research project.
