Introduction
• Leadership plays a vital role in leading the organisation. It is
seen that good leader helps to take the business out of all the
problems. It is seen that at current time the world in facing the
issue of Covid-19. It is important for a company to deal with
challenges and that can be done with the help of effective
leader (Ossiannilsson, 2020).
• It is important for a company to motivate employees and work
in team to overcome the challenges

Scenario of Covid-19
• It is important to note that whole world faced the crisis due to
Covid-19. It is seen that the business operation was stopped as
there was lock down in country. The company was unable to
sell their goods and services (Traxler and et.al., 2020).
• The sales came down to zero and there was no profit. It is seen
that it was a problematic situation and morale of the staff as
well as superiors was going down.

Issues faced due to Covid-19
• Reduction in sales: It is important to note that at the initial level; of
Covid-19 the business organisations faced certain losses. It is being
observed that there were reduction in sale as there were no
customers that came to buy products at stores.
• Decreases morale of employee: It is important to note that
employees need motivation to work. But due to lock down their
health was in danger.

• More expenditure: It is important to note that now due to Covid-19 the business
organisation have to spend more on health and hygiene of customers.
• Marketing expenditure: It is seen that due to Covid-19 the company have to
spend more on marketing expenditure.
• Barrier in communication: It is seen that people are unable to communicate
effectively due to this lock down and pandemic situation.

Leadership Styles
• There are different styles of leadership. It is seen that each
company choose their own style of leading team. It becomes
essential to select best style of leading team as that will them
to attain goals and objectives (Ren and et.al., 2021).
• Lewin's Leadership Styles: It is seen that psychologist Kurt
Lewin give the style of styles of leadership in 1939. The

• Authoritarian Leadership: They are also known as autocratic leader. They are clear and also
provide clear instruction on what needs to be done. They set clear goals and communicate
them to the employees.
• Participative Leadership: The next style of leadership is democratic. As per this leadership
the employees also have right to speak in decision making (Peleg and et.al., 2021).
• Delegative Leadership: The another name for this leadership style is Laissez-Faire. Under this
style the leader delegates the authority and responsibility to the employees.

Leadership Theory: Contingency
Theory
• As per the Contingency leadership theory, the leaders act
according to situation. They believe that it is important to
react in a different manner as per the situation. It is seen
that the leader plays an important role in success of the
company. It is said that the leader can not follow any set
of principles that will help them work in every situation.

Situational Leadership
• The theory is also called Hersey-Blanchard Situational Leadership Theory. The approaches of
the situational leadership styles are evaluated below:
• Telling (S1): Under this the employees are told about what they have to do. As it is important
to first communicate them about the work that they have to do. The leader in Tesco do the
same in order to communicate the plan and policies that they have formulated for overcoming
the challenges faced due to Covid-19.

Maturity Levels
• It is said that the right style of leadership depends on the leadership style followed. So the
different level of maturity are discussed underneath:
• M1: The members of group have less knowledge.
• M2: The members are enthusiastic, but they lack ability to complete the task.
• M3: The members have skills to complete the task, but are not willing to do so.
• M4: The members have skills and are willing to complete the task.

The leadership lessons from the current Covid-19

• The lessons taken are discussed below:
• Ensure safety of employees: The company has understood that the
employees are the assets of the company.
• Contingency plans: As no one was expecting situation like Covid-19. So
now the leaders in Tesco have planned to formulate contingency plan
• Split team arrangements: It is important to split the team. As there
various problems related to Covid-19.

• Motivating the employees: It is important to note that the employees
must be motivated. The company observed that due to covid-19 the
morale of employees come down.
• Flexible work arrangements: It is also seen that all the organisations
have understood that it is important for them to keep the working style
flexible
• Communicate effectively: It is important for an organisation to
communicate effectively with the employees.

CONCLUSION
• From the above study it has been concluded that Covid-19 has direct impact on all the
organisation. It is seen that there are various issues that have arisen due to pandemic. It
becomes vital for organisation to take measures that help them to overcome such challenges.
